I know, I never said she was - but she hurt him nonetheless and that is unforgiveable! So there...  :P

@Jilly: I totally agree as well. I can totally imagine him looking after a little sister. It's starnge but I can see him better with a little sister than a brother... heh.

Nope, he had a quite unrequited crush on her.

I still think Rhana is a closed chapter. She didn't hurt him on purpose, they were kids, kids do things and react in weird manners. No matter how lovable and kind she was, she was still a teenager who got scared.

Kaidan on the other hand was frustrated and wanted to play a hero.

Yes, I remember it was a hard time for them.

Also, I think we had a discussion about her a long while ago and I and some others all had the idea that she was a rich ad spoiled brat... despite Kaidan's descriptions and lately it crossed my mind that I'd somehow suspected her to try to get back in contact with him when he is honored about being part of the 'Saviors of the Citadel' crew - just because he's made a name and is 'famous'. It's so cliché, I know but I just can't stop the train of thoughts...

I agree she is a closed chapter - at least for Kaidan. I just have this homegrown dislike for her and it drives me on. The rest is explained above... (sorry just put this in as an edit to keep it in one post)

It sounded like him and a lot of the other boys did.  She had a group that formed around her.

my femshep just talked last night to Kaidan and he told her about *poor holy* Rahna... I don´t like her at all and not because he was in love with her, but because of the way she acted after he tried to protect her..arrgh...

@Aslan: Yeah, most girls I know (especially teenager ones) have a total White Knight fantasy for a potential boyfriend. And here she gets one, and he scares the crap out of her. (Not that most people react well to violence, tbh, and I thought it was a well done story, though, and completely plausible.) But a lot of people wouldn't like the reality of their fantasies if they got them. Much better in imaginary form.

I got the impression that there was something between the two of them--more than friendship and mutual.  But she couldn't deal with the result of his standing up for her.

with how "loveing" and "soft hearted" she was, however, I can't see her as really having developed into a lasting thing, though.  A nice first love/crush?  Sure.  But I think the wilting flower thing would have grown old and eventually they would have parted ways.  He needs a stronger woman than that.
JaerWolfe?  Was it you that wrote that one fict with Rhana showing up?  It was priceless.

I've come across a couple fics that assumed sterility, or other fertility complications. (Not that necessarily makes much sense, as lots of things are bad for babies and don't do much to their moms, but... *shrugs*)

I have problems with this theory because Kaidan seems so much like a big brother personality wise. Not completely sure why he strikes me that way, but he does. (And I think I vaguely recall chem agreeing w/me, so at least we're not alone?)

Thanks, Sia, Jilly.

I wondered if the books had gone into further detail on what the exposure did and I knew a few had read them. The sterility/fertility complications had me wondering as well if we had more concrete information.

Guess what I don't know, I get to make up!

BTW, Jilly...we're done fighting now. I've moved on...but I hope you've learned a valuable lesson out of this. ;)

Yeah, it was mine. I could never quite accept, through any of my ME1 playthroughs that Rahna was as weak as Kaidan thought she was. Not and survive Brain Camp and Vyrnnus. I've known too many girls who played the 'helpless maiden' just so they could have a group of boys be at their beck and call.

Depending on how my day goes, I might have something up on FF later this afternoon. It's done, just needs polishing.

woo! Jaer's not fighting w/me anymore, and is dangling potential soon-to-arrive fic update! *happy dance*

And, um, I already knew I desperately hated spiders, so I'm not sure what else I was supposed to get out of that. Maybe not to mention the hatred of spiders around writers or artists, as it's too tempting a target? But it's too late for that one ... o_0;; *laughs*

And yes, I also love your Rahna, and the fact that someone who could survive BAaT was unlikely to be as sweet and innocent as Kaidan remembered is a truly realistic and wonderfully satisfying characterization.

Hey everyone. I haven't stopped by in a while to show support for Kaidan from the other Virmire survivor thread. I thought some of you might be interested in a poll one of the Ash fans made.

Hi, Shenzi!

It's the shorter one of the two I was working on...only around 3000 words. The other, A Soldier's Duty, is moving along well and is near 10,000 words. It will most likely be twice that before I'm done.

I dumped on my Shepard in my last long fic, now it's poor Kaidan's turn.

Oh, ASD takes place a couple of months after the wedding, if anyone cares to know.

You're mean. Teasing us w/fics that aren't ready for public consumption yet. Tease! *snickers*

Sorry, I'm just impatient. And slightly annoyed at my two very slow to grow at all word documents myself. Plus the three potentials I've mostly given up on. Silly zombie muse. Needs more sleep.

I'm curious to see how all of the romances develop in the end. Certainly Kaiden is a rougher one. There's so much anger amongst fans over his behavior on Horizon. I for one perfectly understand why he's pissed and if you're going to have Shepard ditch him after that, then you never cared or understood him to begin with. Good riddance, he deserves better.

well, i would have agreed, but you know, having played horizon umpteen times recently fried my brain into thinking that it's also possible he didn't understand shep. he doesn't stop to find out what she's doing or why. he really does just get angry and leave, then write a "maybe." i see a lot of pain behind that, but it doesn't make his behavior right, nor does it take away the fact that he left. he left. as in him.

i think given what shep is up against, with little to no support from old allies either, it's very understandable if she decides kaidan is a jerk and moves on. it's not to say she never cared for him or understood him past tense - she just doesn't care or understand as much now. perhaps kaidan does deserve better, but so does she.

however, if she is able to care and understand, even now, then she can perhaps wait it out until she sees him. either she's waiting to see if the next reunion is better, or she's just waiting to tackle him and drag him back to the ship.

either way, i have to say that after playing multiple times and seeing multiple LI conclusions on youtube and in fanfic, i really can't condemn any one choice outright without knowing what the shep's motivations for it were. some sheps seem to be doing a "well i hate you TOO" sort of thing, which i just find childish, frankly. but there are also some pretty good justifications for moving on as well which are more mature, understandable, and reasonable.

YES shep was gone 2 years to him and he 2 months to her, but all the game gives us was that battlefield flirting turned into spending the night together before the final battle. kaidan fell in love. i think it's up to each player what femshep read into that.

(just my...2 centS? more like a dollar.) anyhow, looks like i'm going to miss 2000, as i'll be afk for long while. happy kaidan day!

Aww, bye Sage. (And wow, I agree w/your post completely. Most of our Shepard's also fell in love w/Kaidan, but there's really not that much relationship detail IN GAME for any of the LI's, ME1 or ME2. It's all about the story the player makes about what else happens behind the scenes.)

Yeah I agree with you Sage (was there ever any doubt I would?)  and yes is is up to each Shep which relationship she pursues.  There is a good chance in the future there will be people that feel Love isn't important and sex is fun... there are now after all.  I am sure there are elements in each relationship that touch people like Kaidan's relationship touches us.  (okay I really don't get the Jacob one, but that's just me)

Have Fun with whatever your doing  afk Sage, keep safe...Posted Image

ha. i was thinking of meghan, too! ^_^

no, i really have changed my way of thinking about horizon and fan's reaction to it. the scene is awful - but perhaps in the best way. like the entire kaidan romance, it is completely up for grabs what the emotions are behind it. kaidan's position is never very clear, cautious as he is, and even when it becomes so, he retreats almost at once. he just has a very hard time setting his heart out in front of shep. and shep, if you look, has no line that is clearly an "i love you" line.

i feel like i lucked out and my first time playing horizon, as i hit a dialog path that i thought really made sense (the one in my ff, actually, or very close to it). but playing other lines through were just brutal. some of the paragon options just...gah. they bring a confused tear to the eye.

anyhow. along with a reunion, i hope femshep is given an option to finally tell kaidan she loves him and settle that once and for all. as much as i love to write fanfic about the char's inner state of mind, i'd actually just like to have her SAY it in the end, ya know?

@Sage: If there is not a proper declaration of love as an option for Shepard's romantic entanglement of choice, I shall be forced to throw my ME3 disc out the window. And then go stomp on it. And write BioWare a nasty letter. And then replay DAO, where I get to have one. And possibly cry a little in there somewhere.
