I think, in the love scene, he's afraid that if someone finds out about them, they would be not only separated from each other, but from the only place they have truly called home. I don't know, just rambling here.

I agree with Jade. I've been replaying ME1 and noticed that Kaidan seems to be falling for Shepard from the very beginning. The Citadel scene ("Well, when you put it that way, there's no reason they woudn't like you...") and then him telling Shepard that he thinks she's beautiful ("Beautiful, but not stuck up about it, kinda like you, ma'am").

I think this is where he realizes it himself, to be honest. He kinda sounds out in space for a minute, there. XD

well since Shepard is a spectre.... doesn't that defy all known military regs? Therefore.... their relationship would be ok, right?
Shepard, I think, can do whatever the hell she wants provided she doesn't go against the will of the Council. The Normandy seems to be under Alliance lockdown, however (since Udina is the one to issue the lockdown order), and Kaidan still has to go where he's told by the Alliance.
So if the Alliance thought Kaidan was somehow weakening Shepard's resolve, they could reassign him and I doubt she could do anything about it.

@ Batt - The first time I heard that line I just fell for him. I went from "Ugh! Stop talking about Rahna" to "You think I'm beautiful?"

Oh that bites. So Shepard is under Council authority, and Kaidan is still under Alliance authority..... hmmmmm
think that could be problamatic in Mass Effect 3? I intend to recruit Kaidan for the war against the Reapers.....

If push comes to shove, as loyal as he is to the alliance, I can see him giving them the finger given the right circumstances.

Especially if he was taking notes while working with Shepard and Anderson.
And this page needs a Kaidan.

i took the this can't change anything line as referencing their professional relationship. he also mentions the crew. when your colleague becomes your lover, you have to set boundaries in order to avoid disarray.
I agree. He's not talking so much about the personal relationship between them but rather the professional relationship. Almost like "Outside this room, we're Commander and Lieutenant." And yes, he mentions something like the Normandy crew being the best he's ever worked with.

D'aww! Pity there isn't a way to respond that way to him. You can say those exact words to Carth and I think Alistair as well.

It's also part of why I didn't mind destroying the base in the end. I have many reasons for not keeping it on my canon, but I won't deny that one of the scenarios I envisioned was being on the run from TIM with his nifty Normandy ship and looking to Andersen/Kaidan to team up for the next big reaper fight. Kaidan could theoretically see that I gave TIM the finger and reassess what I was doing, but they'll have to make allowances for a Shepard that kept the base, too, so dunno how that'll play out. I just know that I want to team up with Andersen and Kaidan again so it wasn't too tough to cut TIM's umblicial cord.Batteries wrote...

I'm trying really hard to not make a Shepard that saved the base with a Kaidan romance just to see how different the reaction is from him. Wait for youtube! Waaaaaittttt. I can doo eeet.

In my one and only renegade game, I kept the base. Much to my surprise, the entire friggin' crew -- even the Cerberus ones like Miranda -- let me know in no uncertain terms that it was probably the wrong thing to do. Generally negative comments from one and all. So I'm with you Cypher -- now I'm sure it's gonna come back to bite me.

I saved my renegade both ways, saving the base and blowing it up.
I'm really interested in seeing if it actually makes a difference in ME3 for how things play out.

It seems like they're really pushing the Shepard Jesus thing, you've got a total of twelve to recruit in ME2.
Okay, I had not heard that bolded bit before. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read it, lol.
Well for starters, in the Collectors Edition Official Guide, an article in the back about the making of the game is titled "The Lore is my Shepard" which is a play on "The Lord is my Shepherd" referring to Jesus.
Shepard is resurrected, the title of the project is Lazarus Project. Even though Lazarus is a guy Jesus resurrected it's a reference to Jesus regardless.
I don't think they're making Shepard an exact Jesus copy, but there is a pattern here.
About the thing with Kaidan/Ashley being a spectre, I'm very fascinated with this and will be listening carefully the next time I play ME2 for that news report. I used to play with an idea that Kaidan and Shepard would go head to head over something. I haven't played a full game with Ashley to say the same though. So I doubted the idea away.
I thought that Garrus would be made a spectre with the same sort of story line. You'd think they'd want to get a non-human on Shepard's butt.
But with the idea that they would send a spectre not working on Cerberus's side, to investigate a human issue, and would know Shepard (depending on how you look at it), that makes sense.
Then again, that report might just be another rumor about Shepard.

I agree. I have major problems playing a full on renegade and really had to force myself to keep playing, But I still couldn't bring myself to save the base in my one and only renegade playthrough. I just don't want Cerberus to have it and I keep thinking that Kaidan would not be happy with my Shep if she did, lol. I really need a life of some sort, lmaoStar58 wrote...
I did. My one renegade went all the way. It was very hard to do because I didn't agree with all the responses/decisions. It was the most painful game I've played so far!

She could say... "I want him back now!" They would be forced to obey an order from her. The only people who are allowed to not follow a command Shepard gives is the Council (obviously) and another Spectre.

You can also tell Alistair that he is handsome too. For the base? Either way can bite you in the ass. If Kaidan doesn't approve of me keeping it well.. There's not much to say that he'll just have to get over it in that playthrough. What's done by then is done.
