No I don't. I use the mechanics availlable and usually come up with someone new - for each game. Even though my Shepard, Warden and other characters in different games have things in common (in terms of looks) they are all different.
The personality depends on the background but is mostly like me. I play my characters as if I were that character. Not thinking about where I come from, but where the character does and I adapt that to my personality.

No, I have a weird custom to give my "main" characters ceratin features like dark hair and bright eyes. Sometimes I think I just try to put an image of my OC into games and see how she would look "alive". I think I managed to do that in FO3, but Marge Shepard, too, has a lot from her.
I do have a Shepard I tried to make look like me for fun, but I was tired of looking at my own face and I pimped her up a bit. And I rarely play her

i don't think any of my sheps look like me. i think i made one which has the same colour eyes and hair colour but that's where the similarity ends. i try to make them all pretty but there's always something wrong with them. my first custom shep tamara i discovered after making her had a huge nose, it really annoyed me at first but then i got used to it, it added character.

@Batt, I did not receive an email in my first playthrough either, but that femshep did not do the mission on the citadel in ME1...and I thought that was the reason I did not get the email, but maybe it's really a bug...
It's the same with Fist ... in one playthrough Wrex killed him and he was revived (hope used the right word) in ME2... giggles... maybe Ceberus used him as a test object...

I believe, too, that Kaidan was attracted by Shepard from the real beginning... And I love the scene on the Citadel...sighs...
I loved the way Carth and Revan were teasing each other while their flirts...
And Alistair is just sweet...*sighs*
and because I was talking about them....

Yeah.  I do love those BioWare men 
But don't forget Zev, too, he's over-the-top.  But when he falls in love with your character he is very cute and sweet.  Not as sweet as Alistair, but he also won't dump your a** if you're not human.  Even if you dump him, he will stay by your side if you ask him to.

I tried to make Kimbri as close as I could.  Blone hair, blue eyes, thin face with prominent cheekbones.  But that never really works quite right, you know.  Especially since there isn't long hair.  And I've always hated my nose.

Well, I would say the colour of the eyes are the only thing which looks similar to mine. My hair is longer and a little bit darker, than my femsheps hair...

I never intentionally try to make my character look like myself...  I am darkhaired, but my Warden (left) is blonde and my Shepard is a redhead.  If I do give a character similar looks to myself, it's just a coincidence.  As a rule, I tend to choose appearances based on certain clichés related to hair colour and eye colour.  (My Warden is blonde because she's cool and reserved, my Shepard is redheaded because she's passionate and charismatic, etc.)

That said, the decisions my Shepard makes tend to be the decisions I'd make if I was in that position, regardless of the dissimilarity of our outwards appearance.  But I think most people play RPGs this way.  It's a rare person who can say "I'd do X, but my Shepard would do Y" and happily go on to make their Shepard take the Y action solely in the interests of roleplaying purity.

Back on-topic, I've been looking at a thread in the DA2 forum about what kind of romance women want.  It seems to me, to be honest, that it's kind of missing the point.  If you described Kaidan to me in a single line before Mass Effect came out, I'd have said "meh."  Same is true for Alistair, Carth, etc.  Yet, when it came to the actual game, I loved them all.  It's the actual execution of the character, all the little things they do and say, that captivates - not a certain concept in the raw.  Romance by numbers != win.

My elf for Zev was just planning on using Alistair.  But got sucked in, too.  I was somehow able to let him down easy, though and only lost ONE point with Alistair in doing so.  Then she was Zev's. 

No.  I don't think that I'd be able to resist Kaidan either.  Originally I thought about playing through and having a Liara romance.  But how?  And I wouldn't want to hurt Kaidan.  As we know, he has a thing for Shep early on.  There's almost no way to keep from hurting him in some degree if your Shep is female.  And then there's his voice...mmm...

I need to play Rupublic commando.  But my commando will likely have a same-sex crush on Scorch.  LOL.

QFT.  Alistair, in particular, does not sound remotely like my usual cup of tea, so to speak, but he is ridiculously adorable and romantic in the context of the character/story development of the game.

As far as video game avatars go, I tend to give them red hair, as I always wanted red hair when I was younger.  Or, I make them obviously ethnic in a way I'm not, as I find that more interesting to watch them walk around.  So, being primarily scandinavian/northern european, I usually make my Shepards/Wardens/Jedi etc. dark, or asian, or give them vivid impossible purple eyes or something.  My dwarf commoner there being one of the notable exceptions.  She was just ridiculously cute in DAO, and it amused me that my tiny adorable dwarf lady intimidated everyone she met.

None of my Shepards look like me. (Nor Wardens for that matter.) Avery has dark brown hair and blue eyes and a strong jaw and prominent nose with full lips. Meghan has blonde hair and green eyes, a very narrow nose and an oval face (possibly the closest thing to an "adorable" Shepard I've made). Rachel is dark skinned, black haired and hazel eyed with a square jaw and cheekbones that could cut glass, she looks Hispanic/Native American.



Meg may be the closest to me, looks-wise, but it wasn't intentional.



Asking what we want in an LI is just dumb. You write the characters you want to write and if you like them, we'll like them. That's kinda how it works.

That's true.  But its interesting that its the sensitive natures of each of these men that the women adore and that the male gamers ridicule.  *rolls eyes*  As was pointed out before, perhaps men should take a few pointers. 
Carth is flirty and fun.  Alistair is so sweet and adorable.
Kaidan had to grow on me a bit.  His reserved nature was harder to warm to--but the voice kept me reeled in early on.  Then you see how much he loves her...and how he's always trying so hard to do the right thing--to be a voice of reason.  Just thinking now...he reminds me a bit of Helo in BSG that way.  helo had to grow on me.  He's completely devoted to Sharon.  And he doesn't always get it right, but he's trying hard always to do what is right.
