No transparent armor. Only Avery gets to see that.

So what special equipment... ahem... does Kaidan get instead? :innocent:

He gets to walk around the Normandy SR-2 in his class "A"s

Hi, Star :-)
We are discussing see through armour, what do you think? ;-)

lol!  Well it would certainly have advantages...and disadvantages.  If it's on Kaidan it might be a bit...distracting. Posted Image

Yeaaaaah, but it would only be for very special missions...................

Private, under cover missions?  Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Yep, that's the ones..................... :D

Okay, suffering from a little in-joke failure here!  What is a class A?

That's the military designation for the dress uniform.  The equivalent of a three-piece suit.  Not to be confused by Mess Dress, which is the military equivalent of a tux (which we haven't seen).

See Star's very helpful visual aid.

I see!  In that case, I heartily agree.

You can sorta fudge the mess dress - class A distinction though, if you wear the fancier shirt and bowtie with the suit jacket instead of the tux-cut jacket. Just to confuse people.

Which reminds me ... why did we all decide Kaidan was a medic? Is it just the first aid / medicine in his skill set, or is there a line referencing it somewhere I've forgotten?

eta:  And same with the marine vs navy question ... are we just assuming he's a marine because he's on the ground team, or am I forgetting something?

Thanks to Jho of course whose artwork is on display!

Interesting distinction, Sia. I wasn't aware the military had another type of dress uni. Would love to see Kaidan in that!

That's a good question.  I think I always assumed it due to the 1st aid skill set and the fact that he runs over to check Jenkins (closes his eyes in fact) and then Shepard in the first mission.

Me too: first aid plus medicine (incl. neural shock) says medic to me.

Ultimately, though, I guess I just like the idea of him being ridiculously talented in all kinds of proficiencies!  Biotics?  Check.  Tech?  Check.  Medicine?  Check.  Competence is very attractive...

He says he's a Marine.  I think the assumption about Kaidan being a medic was from the first aid/medicine skill, yes.

Aw, yeah, Alenko in mess dress? With gloves and tails? Damn fine sight. Have I mentioned I like Tuxedo-Kaidan lots?

As for my earlier question...

I was realizing, while attempt to figure out my LfW chapter, that I'd made Kaidan both a marine and a medic, which doesn't actually exist, and was trying to decide if it was worth changing. Actually, medics don't exist anymore either, but whatever, closest equivalent is CLS (combat life saver), which Marines don't usually do either, since they use squibs (the Navy) to drive them around and patch them up, and mostly just train themselves to fight better. So, a highly trained tech/medic/marine is a bit unusual. Could just make Alenko even cooler though, so... decisions, decisions. To edit, or not to edit. *shrugs* (And thanks for the quick responses everyone. Yay!)

Well, as you point out, the military has changed a bit. There's no reason it wouldn't have changed again in numerous ways by the time of Mass Effect.

I like the class "A"s but I like the ACU's better. More form fitting. Loved seeing his ecs, abs, shoulders, biceps in those

Well, these are space Marines... might not want to put  the squishy Nice Ass Very Young types out on hostile planets.

Also, the fact that the Marines farmout all non-combat skills to the Navy seems to be lost on the general populace. (My sister fixed planes for the Marines while she was in the Navy.)

  I'd forgotten that particular Navy acronym.

And I have decided you are right, Sia, and Space Marines need the future equivalent of medics in case the Navy has trouble picking them up again.  Plus, Alenko strikes me as the type who'd get bored when he's got a quiet office/base/not-shipboard posting, so he just signs up for extra classes, and thus I can keep my CLS-trained Marine, no matter how potentially unlikely/inaccurate he may be.  ;)

Question!  :wizard:  Forgetting for a moment the issue of inventory (or non-inventory) in the Mass Effect games... and assuming Kaidan will be a squadmate again in the next game...

If Kaidan was to get some item / equipment unique to himself in ME3, what should it be?  :)

OMG.

Unique equipment... hurrrrrrrr :pinched:

I want my inventory back in ME3. But if they go the same route and have people wearing their normal clothes in battle, then I want Kaidan in black armor. Black would look so good on him... =]

I'm right with you there Jilly on Kaidan's classification (medic & tech) but I've got so many other issues with my fic regarding accuracy that I'm just assuming everyone still reading it is willing to overlook those issues and just accept it as a piece of entertaining fluff.

Besides, Marines are mentioned a lot in the game, Navy... not so much... 175 years, things will change... who knows what acuracy it will have... I mean ... it isn't like there will be a doctor on every corner... and If you are going with only so many squad members, having a medic is definitely a good thing....

There's a reason I give him decryption and electronics till I get Garrus or Tali and then move him to biotics and first aid/Med.

I always build up decryption/electronics first, because for some reason, leaving a crate or a probe unopened bothers me, even if I don't need what's in it. :D (And, yes, it makes more story sense too.)

i figured i'd focus on the love.  mondo's poll caused me to reflect on kaidan's romance.  what appealed to each of you?  also, since some of us have several shepards, did it vary depending on the femshep?

Yes, it varied. For Meghan, he was stability and a shoulder (and evidence that life can go on after Akuze) when she desperately needed those things. For Avery, he was and still is her other half.

For Kimbri, it was his voice that first caught her attention--cause on Eden Prine, you don't really see much of his face in the helmet anyways.  Then how sweet and shy he was.

Kara likes his attentiveness and how he's always there to give her support and advice.  She's the one that's noticed the little details--like his smile when she tells him the beacon on Eden Prime wasn't his fault.
