For Ella he was a calm center she could relax around. (Being the Butcher, most people she met tended to be scared of her. Or nervous, at least.) It seems to be a common Vanguard/Shepard dynamic, actually, to have Kaidan provide stability/calm/balance to the (generally short-tempered) crazy.

For Catherine, he actually gave her an emotional center, as she'd never really bothered with them much before. Too good at being in her own head. (I compare her to Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. She was raised to do the right thing, but never really felt the connection to proper behavior and the people around her until Kaidan made it more than simply following the rules for the rule's sake.)

eta: For me, personally, it's totally the voice, and that ridiculously adorable half-smile/sparkly-eyed Kaidan in the medbay post-Eden Prime if you take the paragon option.  Still makes me giggle.

Vanguards do seem to be the crazier characters.

Kaidan definitely is a counter to Kate's crazy personality and for her there could be no one else, ever.

And for me like Jilly said, omg the voice.

Oh, Mr. Darcy.  He does have a Darcy-esque quality to him, doesn't he?    Or perhaps more like Frederick Wentworth from Persuasion.

I was.  Should make Catherine Shepard's middle name Fitzwilliam, just to amuse myself. 

On topic, Kaidan would certainly fit in just fine with Austen's heroes... he's quite the gentleman.

Hey.  Why does Anderson keep a picture or Alenko on his desk?   There are no other commanders on his desk.  Shepard never was on his desk.  Isn't it a bit..odd?

As far as Kaidan being thought of as a medic...

When you do the moon specialization mission in the first game, if you're a sentinel, then one of the options is even called Medic. So associating the sentinel class (and therefore Kaidan) with being a medic seems fairly legitimate to me.

my spacer femshep, alia, casually flirted with kaidan because of an initial physical attraction. during the course of the game, that playfulness unexpectedly turned into something concrete. he became her confidant, her shoulder and someone she let herself depend on. his personality made him more attractive to her. he was kind and thoughtful. although he may have had hardships along the way because of his biotics, it shaped him into a well-rounded, mature man. he brought out the best in her and she him. he needed to loosen up and she needed as others have stated an emotional center. being an unpredictable vanguard, he brought stability to her life. the locker scene was when he penetrated her fortifications and she let him in.

i noticed parallels between jane austen character's interactions and kaidan and femshep's relationship. i'm glad i'm not alone in this thinking.

BW: Oh yeah, we should repair it with another patch...
Christina: Actually I have an idea. Leave it as it is, so the players will have something to brainstorm about!

My 15 month old little boy has that as one of his middle names because of my love for P&P and Fitzwilliam Darcy........

As much as they might scream and yell it's not a popularity contest, that's all it's going to turn into.

i can see that. he's sweet. and guys playing as femshep wouldn't feel gay going for him like they might with kaidan.  i adore garrus. i pick kaidan always - can't resist, but, i wish garrus every chance to find love.
