I like Horizon for what it is, romance or not, trying to throw characters to the curb or not. It'd be safe to say most of my opinions are in the minority here, so I tend to not get ito it too much,
thanks. Yeah you know what I think I actually liked horizon more when the person isnt your love interest

Kaidan says something about First Contact being 26(?) years ago in ME1...or was it the First Contact War? Were the first alien species in the ME universe 'discovered' in Kaidan's lifetime?

I think Kaidan says something along the lines of "I'm 32, Shepard. You don't serve as long as I have without having come to terms with yourself."
Yeah. That's really whiny. *rolls eyes*
I adore that line.
I think one of the things I love about Kaidan is that he sometimes calls Shepard on his/her crap. Like, 'come on, you don't need to fix me' or 'ah, rachni decision, really should have left that for the council imo, just sayin''
i'm one of those weird peeps who likes a character that's hard to impress/win over, so i loved that about kaidan BUT, i can totally see why other people would find that annoying. my first shep hit ALL the wrong notes with him, finally getting pissed that he questioned her. kyrie was surprised, but delighted, in a weird way, to find someone stand up to her.
^ again, tend to let the chars RP themselves.

So perhaps there is a part of the population that is just discovering the game due enjoying DA and getting another BW title.
That is true of me; I got Dragon Age in late January-early February of this year and fell in love with it. I then decided to nab Mass Effect 1 and 2 to see how they stacked up (started playing ME1 in May). Funny thing: I kind of like Mass Effect a bit more than Dragon Age now. I don't know whether to feel shame or pride.
If no one minds me suggesting this, would it be possible to create a thread in the Group Discussion board for people that don't mind discussing Kaidan along with characters from other games (or even Garrus) or would that be disallowed? Maybe we could do the same with the issue of Horizon: a place where people can expres their viewpoints without derailing the whole KAAS thread.

I believe he says:
"I mean, it's only been 26 years since first contact, that's not a lot of time to understand them."

Aw thank you for sharing your story =). Yes I know exactly what you mean lool. I cant wait for their 2nd meeting in Me3 I dont know about anyone else but secretly I think I'm hoping for it to be just a lil dramatic when they start to resolve things. The virmire choice was really hard for me whenever I would play with a male and have to choose Kaidan to die was always depressing so please no more depressing choices/ending for beloved characters. Just seeing Garrus get his face blown off was upseting (NOT trying to go OT just making a point). If theres a choice like that I hope its one of the new characters if kaidan died or something in me3 I'd probably turn off my console forever make up a nice fairtyale in my head of how it actually ended and never speak of mass effect again (minor exxageration =p)Gilsa wrote...
Was a lurker on the old board because I didn't want to register. The community was large and pretty established at that point. Easier to just lurk and let others get flamed instead. =p I was already registered here because of Dragon Age and when they merged the ME forums here, it was easy for me to start participating. Unfortunately I tend to have tunnel vision so whatever game I'm playing, I spend more time in that forum. I'm replaying my ME games and neglecting the DA forums while I'm getting caught up on all the nifty ME2 DLCs I missed in the meantime.Lovestories wrote...
Yeah you know I'm really wondering where all this Kaidan love has come from. =S on the old boards I never got to talk about kaidan b/c there was never any thread or enough people interested. Its weird how hes getting so much love since Me2. Like what changed?
My first Bioware game was actually Dragon Age due to my husband purchasing it as a game he thought we'd both be interested in. I humored him by installing it and giving it a whirl, but I was floored at how much of a different gaming experience it was. Game romances were completely new to me and I got drawn in more than I expected. However (as not to spoil anything) I was pretty unhappy with the outcome of my preferred romance in DAO and I found a thread with posters comparing Kaidan to the DAO love interests. When it got mentioned that while Kaidan wasn't as interactive as the DAO characters, it was very sweet and devoted. So I bought the game and I don't know, I just felt more alive playing Mass Effect and I really enjoyed how simple and uncomplicated the Kaidan romance was. I want to play a game where I beat the bad guys and win the guy in the end. Mass Effect filled that need. ME2 got me stoked for more because Kaidan expressed more of his feelings and it really set the tension for ME3. Can you just imagine the kind of make-up sex that would be coming once their paths cross again and the air gets cleared? (Theoretically speaking!) I'm really looking forward to ending on a high note with ME3. I really hope they don't take a page out of DA's book by inserting tragedy or forcing Shepard to go out in a blaze of glory to save everyone. Y'know?

You know I think I agree with you there. There were hints that he liked you sure, yeah he liked you but it didnt matter if you pushed he made you take it slow, so when you finally got to the ilos bit it felt like the perfect end to all that building up (something I didnt feel with the me2 LIs but anyway). I really enjoyed Kaidan out of all the me LIs I think his was the best, I rhought his character was great even when I played maleshep. Infact my first playthrought was with a male shepard so I was 100% depressed after virmire bc I totally loved the kaidan character but had to end it bc I wanted to see where my romance would go

I know what you mean, I think there will be some tragedy, I mean come on its the finale its got to be heartbreaking and heartwarming. I just hope the depressing bit wont be your me love interest dying. Yeah I agree I think the devs will do that, a good bad mixed etc ending. Not everyone likes an everythings perfect "Hollywood ending" so yeah. And you know I kinda think everyone living would be a bit unrealistic I duno. On Joker yeah but I wouldnt bet my life on it lol. I love Joker really hope he stays alive and flies forever lol =)Batteries wrote...
...I kinda do hope it's possible for everyone to have both a bad ending and a happy one. Mixed between whether there should at least be one character who never makes it out, even if it's Shep. I'd sacrifice all my Sheps to make sure my team lived. I don't think Kaidan/Ash should be immune just because of Virmire, but that's me. Joker seems liked he might of established the unkillable character theme in the series.
I'm not really sure what I want to see.

I probably won't play as a guy for that reason. I couldn't kill Kaidan. And I wouldn't want to play and not romance Kaidan. Same reason I wouldn't play KOTOR as a guy or dark side.Lovestories wrote...

I'd be upset with Kaidan or Shepard having to be sacrificed in ME3. It would ruin the entire series. Part of ME1 was having to make the two big decisions there (Virmire and saving the Council). But to go through the game with the romance being a BIG part of the story to me, only to have him or femShep killed off would not make it and "artistic" or "epic" ending. I'd probably get rid of the games, to be honest. I would hate the series.
If the happy ending hinged on previous choices--i.e. you had to have made x,y,z choices in the 3 games to get the happy ending but otherwise there is a major tragedy, that would be fine. But not if Kaidan or Shepard died no matter what.

I'll be reading spoilers to make sure a happy ending is possible somehow. Otherwise... no buy.
I think it may have Dragon Age style endings - there really won't be an overall perfect ending, but the best ending/s/ would be in the eye of the beholder. Some people think Alistair being king and ruling with Anora is best, yet I think him staying a Warden and Anora ruling alone is best. That might keep most people happy.
