I'd think that Kaidan might feel a bit uneasy(?) if Shep has the ruthless background since you get your entire unit killed.

I usually pick a class that will complement the intended romance's style. For instance, I romance Kaidan with a vanguard . . . .sh'e also a colonist sole survivor, but that's just the combination I liked best. I do this with other romances and games as well . . .Alenko wrote...
Been reading a lot of fanfics and i noticed that quite a few of the writers have a femshep who is biotic and can relate to Kaidan more because of it.
So it got me thinking how you guys prefer to do the romance and what backgrounds and classes do you choose to play with. And do you think it effects how you see/feel about the romance.

Of course from my personal pov I do see my Shep's differently. I chose Sentinel class and the Spacer Kid - Ruthless background for my new Renegade PT of ME1, yet I don't have any intentions of romancing anyone. I really wanna try to stick with the Ruthless story, getting the job done no matter what cost. It's pretty funny actually, because Shep is basically telling everyone to mind their own business and do their job and just not to screw up the mission. LOVE IT! But I haven't played for two days now, since I've been re-doing all of my ff chapters, finished that last night, and I also wanna finish my massive ME meme. Maybe I'll go back to gaming tonight, not sure yet though.
My MainShep is an Adept, Earth-Born and War Hero. She was nice to everyone and after the Finch incident, I liked how Kaidan compared her to himself, how they had both gone through a lot of stuff and all. I REALLY liked that! And the idea, of an orphan finding love in the arms of a man who still has family and is stable, is just such an enticing thought! ^.^

phew, *scratches head* it's right after the thing with Finch, when I go talk to him back on the Normandy. I really don't remember his exact words, I will have to reload a savegame for that, if I have one. Maybe comparing isn't the right word, maybe it is, I really can't remember exactly, he definitely acknowledges your backgroud in that scene and stuff.

interesting, i only ever remember him mentioning your past right after eden prime. "oh akuze!" or "oh the blitz!"

and yeah, I know Horizon sucked, but ME2 is a great game and makes up for a Horizon in more than one way! But for that it's necessary to let Kaidan go for a while and focus on the rest! And Shep does!

Despite knowing better, I will just quickly comment this.
My post about the named topic was actually meant to be diplomatic - so was my line about keeping my opinion to myself. To explain: I know myself and know how that I might step out of line when I speak about something I believe in - thus I wanted to avoid it. It seems that it has been interpreted that I, as a horrible and mean person, was trying to step on someone's toes.
It wasn't so much frustrating me that I was basically called a liar and mean and what not -but that I am not allowed to voice my opinion. But alright, that's how it is and I do my best to refrain from speaking my mind whenever it might possibly be uncomfortable/hurtful/off the mainstream... to avoid this situation again. As to me thinking about what I post... I certainly do!
*sighs again and just drowns all her opinions that are not concerning Kaidan in a mug of coffee*

Throughout your military career, you have held fast to one basic rule:
get the job done. You've been called cold, calculating, and brutal. Your
reputation for ruthless efficiency makes your fellow soldiers wary of
you. But when failure is not an option, the military always goes to you
first. The Ruthless character sent 3/4ths of his/her unit to its death
and murdered surrendering batarians on[/i] Torfan.
