BW is making these decisions on buisness sense and that Ashley was too controversial and the 17 year old boys who make up the majority of the video game consumer base could not possibly wrap their head around the idea that women prefer a mature and reticent badass as opposed to a loud annoying bragart, then I could understand their exclusion.

Popping in just to quote this. Indeed an awesome description of him. Can't even mention his name outside this thread without having people (mostly guys, surprise) say how boring he is. Mature = boring. Don't we all know that <_<

I facepalm when I read when people call Kaidan whiny/boring, but everyone is going to have what they like. I see plenty of women that call him Carth clone/whiny/emo/gay too. Maybe they're just more into the more outspoken bad boy type characters.

... A t-shirt poll? Shouldn't Bioware already know to make a Tali and Garrus shirt off the bat? I think the fact they're the most popular characters in the game is a known fact. Sucks the VS got cut out, but I can understand why from the marketing perspective. Including Wrex too.

It's been addressed elsewhere, but it doesn't really make sense to those of us who just wanted a chance to show we care about Ashley and Kaidan.  I don't think anyone thought they would win the poll over Tali, Garrus and Legion.  We just wanted to be represented.  I really like Sagequeen's post on the subject:  http://social.biowar...94954/5#3298393  She says it all to the people who don't get why we're complaining.  Too bad most of the people who don't get it will never read her post, or if they do they won't comprehend it.  Posted Image

Ah...yeah. I'm not sure anyone was going to read it either. I hope the devs would, but...unlikely. I just posted follow up: i don't care if Tali's the most popular and they only make a Tali shirt. whatever. i have my n7 hoodie and that's what *I* wanted. but just...be fair, you know? don't forget ash and kaidan! *snuggles both*

okay, back to lurking and ffictioning. added a little jack to the last chapter which got posted last night. you won't get an update, but that last bit is new

edit: that's Jack as in subject zero, not...you know...

I get where you're coming from, but I can still see why all three of them were not there. It is a Mass Effect 2 shirt poll, and in that game, they are not major players. I voted for Legion since I think that could be a pretty cool looking shirt if they design it right. But I'm not going to buy it.
But yes, Bioware made me scratch my head when I read that "most people let Wrex die."

Seriously?

Liara was included too and she's not a major character either.

She's about to have  DLC and played a major part if why you are alive. Kaidan/Ash could of done something similar, but we just don't know yet.

okay nick, i'm going to have to read that book then just to know why kelly must die.

truly though, i often wonder when i read these forums how many people did NOT play the first game. i'm like...how can you say that if you ever did the quest where ...oh, wait. you didn't, did you?

For when the Alliance doesn't supply their Captains with bedding: Introducing, the shred of dignity chair.   Kaidan needs to be superimposed on the nice fluffy Cerberus Normandy bed, with tastefully placed pillow.

I dunno, the people on your ship, including Miranda and Jacob, are dupes. They have no clue what Cerberus actually is or stands for. They bought the sunshine and puppies and picnics story and signed up, mostly for Shepard, mostly for the lack of red tape.

Haha.

*Shep walks into SR2 quarters; Kaidan is wearing a pillow*

Shep: Kaidan. What a lovely surprise.

Kaidan: I thought you'd like that.

Shep: Now take that pillow off, you naughty thing.

Kaidan: What pillow? I'm completely naked.

Shep: The pillow on your lap.

Kaidan: Ah. Well, that's all me. I told you that a lot has happened in the past two years...

 Jacob did say he had issues with past events Cerberus did and is only on their "side" since they're the only ones doing anything about the missing humans and as long as both you and Cerberus walk their talk, he's fine.

Miranda and Jacob both know what Cerberus is all about and everyone knows that Cerberus is a terrorist organization bent on dominating or destroying aliens. It is common knowledge in ME: Retribution.... it was the reason the Turians were opposed to letting Humans join the council. It is also probably the reason the Turian councilor is such a dick to Shepard. The only reason that Miranda and Jacob get to live is because Jacob doesn't really trust TIM and Miranda says "I quit" when he tries to get her to save the base.

well, i like garrus and tali - i just...like kaidan too/better.

was having a discussion with the hubby, who loved the character of kelly, and i was like "what? she's such a tramp, etc." then had to realize i was using almost the exact same not-nice logic in defaming her as i think many guys (though not all) hate kaidan:

both have bad same-sex friends-only dialog. both kaidan and kelly are good-looking, nice, and have no major angst you need to fix in them. both would be potential competition for members of the opposite sex.

obviously, differences abound. i just realized my reason for hating kelly was pretty unfair. is part of why i tried to work more sympathy to her into the fic. (though kyrie still hates shrinks)

My Shepard hates her for bringing scale itch aboard the Normandy!

I know...I know...bad chem light.

You know, I have a bit of a hard time believing at least one other species doesn't have an orginization similar to Cerberus. You have STG who nearly sterilized another species, but nobody sees to put much into that.
But this is Kaidan's thread and being lectured again isn't on my list for today, so here:

Miranda has on rose-colored glasses where Cerberus is concerned.  She may know, but she doesn't believe.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, my Sheps nuked the base, Miranda quit, and Meg and Avery are free and clear.

Well, Avery's not quite free and clear....

I like her feeding my fish. I'd rather they install an auto-feeder in ME3 though. Who was it that wrote the stories where no one wanted Shepard to get more pets to kill? And then like 3 of the guys got her some? That was hilarious.

Mmm, interesting thought. Maybe it's something we'll come across in ME3. I'm pretty sure there would be some Cerberus-like groups, although not sure about the Asari. They're the peace-keepers of the galaxy, as Cam Clarke told me.

Kaidan's lap is a great place to rest one's head, is it not?  ^_^

... Wait, Cerberus is common knowledge?  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie]

Because in ME1 it barely existed and in ME2 most of the crew seemed to
be of the impression that it was Shepard's brand new, never before seen gig.

I don't think the lack of popularity among male fans has to do with Kaidan being mature. I do like Kaidan partly for that, though. I think more than anything, it has to do with the relative lack of friendship with Kaidan for Male Shepards and that his stories about jump zero did not resonate with them.

most of the kaidan hate on this forum is irrational and hardly ever comes from guys that find his friendship dialogue with maleshep lacking substance.

And for this, I adore Miranda in the end. I hate her when I first meet her, but then, I come to love her.

The most popular romantic interest for Dragon Age gets a lot of flak and he's a gentle soul like Kaidan is. Some guys can't really see his appeal, but I've seen a few of them change their minds when they follow along on his fan thread and agree to give him a chance. The biggest female supporter for a different male love interest has a nasty habit of shooting down Alistair in order to build up her preferred love interest. (The most interesting part is that both male love interests were written by the same writer.)  I think some of the bashing that Kaidan gets is mostly to get a reaction out of others or build up their own love interests. Kaidan is guaranteed to come back in ME3. The ME2 love interests ... who knows? I can understand why they'd want to bash down Kaidan in order to "convince" the developers to spend more energy on the ME2 ones instead.

Personally when ME3 comes out and all is finally revealed, I would not be surprised to see a few "I dumped him because of Horizon, omg" fans quietly redo some of their games so they can reunite with him in ME3 despite their public protesting. It'll be interesting when Bioware starts promoting ME3 in stages with reveal of new crew members. The gloves will really come off then because it's the point of no-return for all love interests. =p

Here's one of the screenshots I like with Kaidan. We just got out of the mako and the third party member was out of sight so it looked like it was just the two of them just appreciating the moment.

I thought that too when I started seeing all the hate on here. I wasn't too mad at Horizon, I thought it was done well despite crappy Shep responses. But I assume that if they do "character reveal" trailers for ME3, it'd be Ash in the promotions and the trailers. I'm curious who the poster girl will be this time around. Probably Tali, she never got a cover.
