The most popular romantic interest for Dragon Age gets a lot of flak and he's a gentle soul like Kaidan is. Some guys can't really see his appeal, but I've seen a few of them change their minds when they follow along on his fan thread and agree to give him a chance. The biggest female supporter for a different male love interest has a nasty habit of shooting down Alistair in order to build up her preferred love interest. (The most interesting part is that both male love interests were written by the same writer.) I think some of the bashing that Kaidan gets is mostly to get a reaction out of others or build up their own love interests. Kaidan is guaranteed to come back in ME3. The ME2 love interests ... who knows? I can understand why they'd want to bash down Kaidan in order to "convince" the developers to spend more energy on the ME2 ones instead.Batteries wrote...
I facepalm when I read when people call Kaidan whiny/boring, but everyone is going to have what they like. I see plenty of women that call him Carth clone/whiny/emo/gay too. Maybe they're just more into the more outspoken bad boy type characters.
Personally when ME3 comes out and all is finally revealed, I would not be surprised to see a few "I dumped him because of Horizon, omg" fans quietly redo some of their games so they can reunite with him in ME3 despite their public protesting. It'll be interesting when Bioware starts promoting ME3 in stages with reveal of new crew members. The gloves will really come off then because it's the point of no-return for all love interests. =p
Here's one of the screenshots I like with Kaidan. We just got out of the mako and the third party member was out of sight so it looked like it was just the two of them just appreciating the moment.
I thought that too when I started seeing all the hate on here. I wasn't too mad at Horizon, I thought it was done well despite crappy Shep responses. But I assume that if they do "character reveal" trailers for ME3, it'd be Ash in the promotions and the trailers. I'm curious who the poster girl will be this time around. Probably Tali, she never got a cover.
Oh dear me.FireEye wrote...

Yeah, I liked having some familiarity in ME2, even if I didn't really take much notice of Garrus is ME1. I agree, though. Having Garrus and Tali as the only returning ME1 characters in the next game would be overkill. I mean, they're cool and everything but we had the "omg, we're reunited, you're from Mass Effect" moment, but I think our proper VS return is long overdue. *checks watch*fortunesque wrote...
I hope we don't get a lot of Garrus and Tali in ME3...
I mean, I know people liked them and all but it'd be an absolute overdose. But they'll probably have a new squad with a few returns (most likely the ME1 LIs...)
But I'm guessing the "poster girl" will be a busty blonde.
Oh, gutter; there you are again.Sialater wrote...

Depends... whose buns are sticky and with what?
(Quit looking at me like that, it's a valid question.)
Well actually, even John 117, if you read the Halo novelizations (the ones by Eric Nylend are especially good), doesn't think he's anything special, despite the fact that he is. He's just a good solider doing his job. One of the reasons I hapen to like him and all the Spartans really.Giggles_Manically wrote...
I am a guy, but outside of Wrex, and Garrus, Kaidain was my favourite.
I dont mind someone who isint "OMFG I IZ A BAMF" like in Gears or Halo. My first time in hearing Kaidan say "nope no big issues, no real personal problems, lm fine with aliens, and am a competent fighter who dosent brag about it."
I seriously wanted to give him a hug.

So if cheating on Kaidan/Ash/Liara garnered an extra bit of dialogue or confrontation cutscene something, but nevertheless allowed you to rekindle the romance... how many people would do it?
For the observer's drama, or because you wanted to get into [ME2 LI]'s pants, or...? *curious*

They don't say that it's the friendship thing, but I think it's part of it. It's sometimes easier to like a character if you feel like they're Shepard's friend. People for example liked that Wrex was their friend or comrade in ME1. The friendship dynamic adds an extra layer to the conversations you have with the squad mates. The principal criticism that Kaidan gets was that he was not exciting or intriguing enough if you don't romance him.siriusrambles wrote...
most of the kaidan hate on this forum is irrational and hardly ever comes from guys that find his friendship dialogue with maleshep lacking substance.Collider wrote...
I don't think the lack of popularity among male fans has to do with Kaidan being mature. I do like Kaidan partly for that, though. I think more than anything, it has to do with the relative lack of friendship with Kaidan for Male Shepards and that his stories about jump zero did not resonate with them.
I have a faithful Shepard (Kimbri) and am going to start ME2 again with my second character (Kara) who is going to be hurt by Horizon and look for comfort. (1st playthrough Garrus, 2nd Thane probably--not Jacob).FireEye wrote...

Miranda and Jacob both know what Cerberus is all about and everyone knows that Cerberus is a terrorist organization bent on dominating or destroying aliens. It is common knowledge in ME: Retribution.... it was the reason the Turians were opposed to letting Humans join the council. It is also probably the reason the Turian councilor is such a dick to Shepard. The only reason that Miranda and Jacob get to live is because Jacob doesn't really trust TIM and Miranda says "I quit" when he tries to get her to save the base.
You know, I have a bit of a hard time believing at least one other species doesn't have an orginization similar to Cerberus. You have STG who nearly sterilized another species, but nobody sees to put much into that.
But this is Kaidan's thread and being lectured again isn't on my list for today, so here:
If I were to cheat on Kaidan, it would be with Garrus and I don't think I could stand to break Garrus' heart just to return to Kaidan. I'd just wait for other people to do it and put the results up on youtube so I can watch from a distance. =pFireEye wrote...

But he wants to use dangerous explosives as handwarmers on Noveria. How is that not exciting, even if it must be in a friendly sort of way?
