So if cheating on Kaidan/Ash/Liara garnered an extra bit of dialogue or confrontation cutscene something, but nevertheless allowed you to rekindle the romance... how many people would do it?

For the observer's drama, or because you wanted to get into [ME2 LI]'s pants, or...? *curious*

I still vote the cheaters don't get ME3 love from ME1 LI.  It's evident from their Horizon dialogue and their emails that neither took your death well and neither moved on.  If they could wait for you for two years without even knowing your were coming back, what kinda lover are you to jump in the sack with someone after what, to you, only seems a few months.

Shep may want to rekindle but I think both the VS hold themselves in too high a regard to allow themselves to be treated like that.

I think it should be possible, but tricky--not automatic.  There's an extra loyalty thing you have to accomplish or something?  Or you had to have made a certain number of paragon decisions in the previous games.  Something like that.  But its probably more complicated than Bioware will do.

I can only speak for Meghan. She doesn't want anything for Kaidan except to be happy and she knows she can't make him happy.

I wouldn't say that wanting to "get into [ME2 LI]'s pants" is a valid reason to be unfaithful in ME2, and to do it for drama's sake is a lot more poorer. My ShepShep Jane stayed faithful, purely because I didn't like Thane at all, Jacob was pretty much on the rebound from Miranda and Garrus was...Garrus! Like Shep's big turian brother or something. Not that I'm saying if the LI's were different Shep would have cheated. That picture of Kaidan isn't there for no reason.

Given the choice between cheater romance not being an option at all or the NPC's decisions being woefully pliant to the choices of the player, I'd rather it not be an option at all.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of Garrus as big, protective, brother.

I'm not even going to pick up an ME2 LI. They're keeping track of who does what and I'm not going to decrease Kaidan's chances as a returning squadmate.

I'm not even going to try one of them; the paramour achievement will be forever not gotten >.>

But different players are going to like different things or characters.
IMO, for all that Bioware went out of their way to make the ME2 LI's "compelling," they weren't to me.  Garrus was too platonic.  Thane was interesting, but if I could have only the one character I wouldn't have any of them over Kaidan.  Like you said, they all are a bit pliant.  They also traverse a lot in the grey areas.  Some people like that in the LI characters.  Kaidan?  He's a white knight.  And he voices his opinion to Shepard even when it conflicts with her decisions, yet he's able to do it respectfully.  Not to say that he's always right, mind you.  But he's always trying to do things for the right reason.  The only time I can think of that he does anything for a selfish reason is the night before Ilos.  And I don't think Shepard would fault him for that.  Posted Image

In my mind, someone of mixed alignment is best for Garrus. I think being frustrated about red tape or rules would work well with Garrus.

On that note - how does everyone play their Kaidan romancing Shepards? What kind of Shepard do you think works best with him (if you think there is any particular kind)?

I don't like the Garrus relationship at all. I think it would have been better if they did the branch relationship like with Jack.  You can have the friends with benefits, "blowing off steam," but if you hold out you can have true relationship with a long standing companion.

Umm... well, it's not exactly on Kaidan topic but it's not on Garrus topic. Would someone mind previewing a pic I did before I decide for certain that I'm happy with it?

We're a little nervous since the Ash thread got shut down.  They're our sister thread for all intents and purposes.

My favorite Shep romance with Kaidan is my Paragon Shep. They share similar views, and since they're both officers, she feels she can open up to him a bit more on a professional level that allows her to not do something rash (because she does have a temper and is naturally more aggresive).

Compare/contrast is a valid form of discussion IMO as long as you are doing it in reference to Kaidan.

I think he's made to work with any, especially since you can Renegade him.
Personally, I wouldn't want to.  He's so good, so principled.  It seems hard to twist him into being xenophobic.  I like that he's a boy scout, although there's some frustration with that, too.  *too many darn regs...*
I like the Spacer background so that they have the military family in common.  Sole survivor or war hero are fine (I can't remember the 3rd.  I haven't played it).  And I like her to have some biotic skill so that she can relate to him about that.

I like that idea.
But back to Kaidan...

@Jade: Please fix who you quoted in the above. Chemlight said the things about Garrus, not Sialater.

I agree. My favorite Kaidan/Shep pairing is mostly Paragon with a sprinkling of smart aleck comments. Because he does have a sense of humor and loves to call her on it. "You enjoyed that didn't you?" But he respects a woman who sticks to the rules a little bit more, except when it comes to him apparently. Posted Image

i vote no to space soap opera's in me3.  i'm assuming femshep moved on for a reason so hopefully kaidan will be happy with someone else and femshep will be happy with whomever she chose.  i do not want a confrontation.  an adult conversation between former friends/lovers is fine but anything else is silly.

Geh.  I don't know if I've said enough, but thank you for indulging my curiosity, folks.  I like hearing opinions, even to questions that might be a bit...  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]

Yeah, anyway, have some groping.

I think a Paragon Spacer [Biotic class] with either War Hero or Sole Survivor or a Colonist/Earthborn with War Hero would probably be most compatible with him, as he is in the beginning.  Considering you can renegade him, and some might prefer that as character growth, there's no real limitation to the type of Shepard he would be "best" with.

Miranda and Jacob both know what Cerberus is all about and everyone knows that Cerberus is a terrorist organization bent on dominating or destroying aliens. It is common knowledge in ME: Retribution.... it was the reason the Turians were opposed to letting Humans join the council. It is also probably the reason the Turian councilor is such a dick to Shepard. The only reason that Miranda and Jacob get to live is because Jacob doesn't really trust TIM and Miranda says "I quit" when he tries to get her to save the base.

You know, I have a bit of a hard time believing at least one other species doesn't have an orginization similar to Cerberus. You have STG who nearly sterilized another species, but nobody sees to put much into that.
But this is Kaidan's thread and being lectured again isn't on my list for today, so here:

As Shepard tells Miranda... those organizations are run by their governments.  Cerberus is run by TIM and only TIM.

I didn't mean just the ones we know, there could easily be another for another species. I just can't believe Cerberus is the only "shady" one.

Why do you leave out the Spacer background.  After Eden Prime, Kaidan seems to be able to relate to the fact that they are both military brats.
