Yes, it says "talk" and you have to be on the dance floor for it to work. Otherwise, he'll just be talking-"drinks and dancing down below and gambling up above" :) sorry just had to put that in there. Well, I'm off to work!

Ah. Okay, thanks. I'll try it again. And don't be sorry. You write it and I hear him in my head. Not a bad thing at all. ;)

Re Kaidan's name - the name thing depends on where you look. I've seen sites that say Kaidan is a Japanese name meaning ghost story (I think this was a film), or mysterious being, or something. Others that say its a variation of the Arabic name Kaden meaning companion.

As an Aussie I can't say that the names Kaidan or Alenko ring any bells as Australian origin names, lol

Or from wikipedia :

Kaidan (怪談) (sometimes transliterated kwaidan) is a Japanese word consisting of two kanji: 怪 (kai) meaning “strange, mysterious, rare or bewitching apparition" and 談 (dan) meaning “talk” or “recited narrative.”

I asked on the main forum here and they said that you have to do the Shell the gambler quest for it to happen.  Never did that one before because it seemed shady to my Paragon characters.  I will this time.  Posted Image

Yep, Meghan turned him in, she hates cheaters. So, I knew it was safe to do with the one I was trying for straight Paragon points. Just pick the middle option to accept, I think.

I used Kaidan as a starting point for a tabletop RPG character, in the L5R game system. He became Tsuruchi Keidan (yes, I know the spelling is different), and he was a fun character to play. I've also created tabletop RPG characters based on Liara, Samara, Benezia, Thane, and Legion. It helps to have an actor in mind when I create a character, and when I speak 'in character' at the table. Tsuruchi Keidan was a great character, and even though he ended up being a lot different than Kaidan Alenko, having that starting point was a great help in keeping the idea of the character in mind as I participated in the game.

So my question is: has anyone else ever done this?

I haven't done it for Kaidan, no.  But almost all of my characters has as their start Princess Leia because I am that big of an SW geek.

That's cool. Speaking of Star Wars, my next character in the Star Wars game I'm in will be a female Twi'Lek Jedi. Her name? Samara. :D

I'm all about having vastly different characters in tabletop RPGs, I like that all I have to do is speak in character, and my friends know which character I'm portraying. But I'm really good at doing voices and accents. I am a Ham. The male voices are hard for me though, and hurt my throat after awhile. I don't know what I'm going to do when I start playing Krios, my character based on Thane. For some reason I really like playing male characters though. A lot of the guys at the table play female characters, and I guess turnabout is fair play. :D

With Tsuruchi Keidan, I made sure to keep the character honorable, but pragmatic. He always knew that the mission was the most important thing, and he would not fail in his duty no matter what. It's funny, I unknowingly ended up picking a class that was pretty 'broken' by the standards of the game, so he was pretty much the most badass in combat. His nickname was "War Machine".

My Shepards, Avery and Meghan, were grown out of KOTOR (Avery = Revan, Meghan = Exile), and several incarnations of PnP characters. I can't play men for the life of me, though.  Strangely, I've been told I write them well.  I guess it's no surprise the Revan descendant ended up being the "faithful" to Kaidan girl.

I love doing this! And when Schells is like, "What am I supposed to do now?" Kaidan's all like, "Get a job." :bandit:

Pretty much one of my favorite Kaidan lines ever. ^_^

So here's a question for people;  I've seen it said that Kaidan's recent popularity (at least on this board, I can't speak for the world at large) is a reaction to finding the alien LIs unappealing, and Jacob's romance being mishandled, in ME2.  So, with that in mind:

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

Anachronously sexy Tuxedo Kaidan thanks you for your time:

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?

I definitely was. Although I did wish for a few more "moments" between the two of them. I do think it was handle rather well. I did start the game initially with no intent in romancing anyone, but Kaidan made that rather hard to do.

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

Possibly, but for a different shep. Right now I've only played one shep (mutiple times - I'm not very imaginative)

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

I'm rather okay with how Horizon was handled. I can understand in a sense why it went the way it did. I was never angry about how things were, though a little perturbed that he couldn't/wouldn't join you. But I accepted it (with a tiny bit of hope he'll be there for ME3 *fingers crossed* )The only thing that bugged me was him not accepting your reasoning for not contacting him for two years. If anything I like him more because he stood up for what he believed in and didn't just follow her around like a puppy.

1: I liked both Kaidan's and Liara's romance storylines in ME1, before seeing ME2.

2: I am always open to new characters, LI or otherwise, so count me in the 'yes' column.

3: No, I don't blame Kaidan and Ashley for having severe reservations about Cerberus. Cerberus killed Admiral Kahoku! Frankly I'm amazed Shepard was willing to work with Cerberus under any circumstances. I was shocked when I first played the game that my ultra-Paragon Shepard wasn't able to tell the Illusive Man to shove it.

1) Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?

Yes. Sweet, romantic, great voice. Very happy. I did actually play all three available romances in the first game, and Kaidan's was the only one that got multiple playthroughs.

2) Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

Yes, especially if it was Joker. ^_~ Honestly, I like variety and replayability in RPG's, so I'd like to give BioWare another chance to make a decent romance. With, hopefully, content more like DAO's romance path rather than ME's. *sighs*

3) Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

Yes. I like him more... he stood by his principles. However, I like the idea of the Horizon confrontation better than the execution, so while I like the character more, now, I have less faith in BioWare's ability to present him (or any other character development) in a fulfilling manner in ME3.

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?
Yes. Very much so.

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?
Probably not. The way they handled romances in ME2 shows that they probably won't make another romance that I'd care for.

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
Not really. He was OOC and said the same stuff as Ashley, so I don't even really count that as actually Kaidan.

I liked the Kaidan romance, even if I thought that it felt a bit short. I would have prefered more dialogue, but I still liked it. And I the chemistry between Shep and Kaidan was great.

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

I don't want any new LIs. I want good conclusions to existing romances.

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

It didn't change anything. I understand why Kaidan reacted like he did.

Time to answer my own questions:

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?

Yes, but as I've said in the past, I like "subtle" characters, who aren't necessarily the most flashy or angsty or badass in the crowd.  Kaidan really appeals to me because of this, and I really hope he doesn't change too much in ME3.

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

I am on the side of no new LIs for ME3, so that resources can be spent on wrapping up the existing ones in a satisfactory manner.  I was secretly hoping for a romanceable Joker in ME2, though, and if he were available in ME3, I'd have to create a new single character just for him.

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

I was *very* dismayed by the scene when I first saw it, and for a while, I was upset.  I then realized that the Virmire Survivor makes a good point on Horizon, and it makes sense for at least ONE person to be appalled that Shepard is working with Cerberus.  Would I have preferred it if Shepard leapt into his arms, and they went back to the Normandy together?  Sure, but I'm still hoping for that in ME3.

And another observation on the subject:  personally, I didn't come to the old Mass Effect forums because I didn't like the "atmosphere" there.  If you admitted to liking Kaidan, most of the time you were immediately told that he's a whiny Carth clone and he died on Virmire.  Not a very welcoming place for a Kaidan fan.  Posted Image

But after seeing his treatment in ME3, and seeing the support threads being made over here for characters, I decided to join in, and be vocal.  I took Kaidan's role in ME2 for granted (if you had told me about Horizon beforehand, I wouldn't have believed it!), and I won't do the same again.

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?

i never romance anyone in games.  i prefer to be a single hero without distractions.  however, kaidan was the quiet guy who snuck up on my sheps and they fell for him slowly.  by the locker scene, they were all in love with him.  he was their best friend.  this all happened prior to me2's release.

2)  Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?

as i stated previously, romances tend to not pique my interest.  unless the developers create a character more memorable than kaidan's, i'm not biting.

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?

my issues with horizon stemmed from the scripted lines and the botched graphics.  i understand that kaidan had to be sidelined for me3 but i wish i was given the opporutnity to continue the relationship anyway.  i was disheartened he was shelved with no way to contact him further.  hence why i like him more now because he was taken away.  my sheps are adrift without his calming presence.
