Yes.
2) Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?
Prolly not. I got only one Shepard, and she's staying faithful.
3) Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
Like Fort says, he's OOC there, says same stuff as Ashley and whole scene was half assed (sorry :/ ), so it doesn't change my symphaty towards him. Thou I liked that he made Shepard comepletely speechless, then I guess I like him more

So, does anyone know if there's any special significance to the name Kaidan Alenko?
When I first read "Kaidan" in the subtitles, I assumed it was Japanese. But if it is, it isn't pronounced right (which ultimately doesn't mean anything - other characters could be getting it wrong or there could have been cultural drift while growing up in Canada). "Alenko" is pronounced like it could be Japanese, even with the (American) English accent but the only meaning I could find was... not encouraging towards naming patterns. (Regardless, a kaidan is something along the lines of a ritualized seance composed of telling supernatural stories; it was repopularized by one of the first non-Japanese scholars who lived in Japan; the movie is worth watching and the book is worth reading).
Here, I'd be inclined to say that Kaidan is the Arabic variant, by virtue of pronounciation (considering how well Kasumi and what'shername on Noveria pronounce their own names). But again, could be cultural drift. And I don't know where "Alenko" would have come from.
... sorry. Names and languages fascinate me (and I studied Japanese for a while).

3) Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
1) Yes. I wasn't really expecting romance, so it kinda snuck up on me. The slow build was enjoyable in a fun and friendly kind of way, and it led up to the crush of Virmire-Ilos-The Endgame Cinematic nicely.
2) Maybe. I figured I would be going for Paramour in ME2, for gamerscore if nothing else. I also assumed that the romances would have much the same build, and that I'd be drawn to at least one. For whatever reason, I couldn't get past the romance triggering dialogues without cringing, so I didn't bother. If there was a genuine competitor for Kaidan, I might be tempted, but... if Kaidan's back, s/he would have to be one heck of a competitor.
3) Not really. I was too happy to see him alive and not killed off for Shepard angst that I missed what he was saying. And I still like Horizon in concept - I just wish Shepard had better dialogue.

Yes. Very much so.
2) Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?
Probably not. The way they handled romances in ME2 shows that they probably won't make another romance that I'd care for.
3) Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
Not really. He was OOC and said the same stuff as Ashley, so I don't even really count that as actually Kaidan.
This pretty much!!!

Kimbri is a Jedi name I came up with for KOTOR and I just keep using it. My Cousland in DA was Kimbrie. And I have a Kimbri Shepard. Both Kimbri's fell for Sbarge's voice.Sialater wrote...
My Shepards, Avery and Meghan, were grown out of KOTOR (Avery = Revan, Meghan = Exile), and several incarnations of PnP characters. I can't play men for the life of me, though. Strangely, I've been told I write them well. I guess it's no surprise the Revan descendant ended up being the "faithful" to Kaidan girl.
And I am a HUGE SW geek also as is my husband. Member of the 501st and Rebel Legion (the two big SW costume groups--the ones that Lucas Films calls upon when they need costumed folks for events). My basement is completely SW.
1) Yes. I knew before really going far into the game that it had to be Kaidan because of his voice. It took me a while to transition from the playful/flirty Carth to fully appreciate Kaidan on his own merits. I was a little frustrated by the whole "regs" problem. If I had control of my Shepard, she would have figured she was a spectre and could do what she wanted and have thrown the regs out the window much sooner. LOL. But it all worked out well by the end of the game. I was quite pleased with it.Teen
So here's a question for people; I've seen it said that Kaidan's recent popularity (at least on this board, I can't speak for the world at large) is a reaction to finding the alien LIs unappealing, and Jacob's romance being mishandled, in ME2. So, with that in mind:
1) Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?
2) Would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?
3) Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
2) Nah. Who can top Kaidan? They tried new LI and failed x 3, IMO, in ME2.
3) I knew before playing that Kaidan only had a cameo and that he and Shepard had a fight over her being with Cerberus. That was all I knew about the game before playing. So it wasn't a shock. But it was still painful to watch. I didn't know about the e-mail and that was a nice surprise. I love that message. It helps off-set the encounter.
At the time of first playing, no. It didn't change my view of him. But after I thought about it for a while, yes. It has. He seems older, more independent, a little less idealistic--like he grew up a little if that's possible for a 32->35 year old man. He stepped up out of Shepard's shadow to become his own man. He stands toe-to-toe with her on Horizon and doesn't back down from her very strong, persuasive personality. He's more of an equal for Shepard now. And I find that quite sexy about the new Kaidan.

1. Yes, Kaidan's romance was extremely well done.
2. No, I honestly don't think they'll top Kaidan. I was all set to romance one of the options in ME2 (either Garrus or Thane) but I personally found them all too cheesy, it had nothing to do with them being aliens.
3. No, I thought Kaidan was pretty true to form on Horizon. I like the fact that he stood by his principles and didn't just follow Shepard blindly. The thing I hated most about Horizon was Shepard's dialogue. I was expecting a cameo and my first thought was that he'd be taken by the Collectors and we'd have to rescue him, so I was a bit taken aback by what we got on Horizon but it didn't make me like him less. I also wish we had some option for answering his email.

My thoughts on this exactly.
On what you said about Horizon, i wonder if people thought that Horizon was ok the way it was(apart from Shep's rubbish dialouge) or do you think it would have been better(well not better but you know what i mean) if Kaidan was taken by the Collectors and you had to rescue him.
@Sirius - Oooh yes Kaidan did say he enjoying serving uder Shep. The saucy devil

I personally would have preferred the rescue scenario but then there was always the chance that you wouldn't get there in time to save him from Lilith's fate, and I'm sure a lot of people would have let that happen deliberately but we have no idea what the big role he's being saved for in ME3 will be and how important it is to the story. For me it would have made his absence in the game make more sense. I hated not being able to find him after the so called suicide mission though.Alenko wrote...

I very much enjoy Shenzi's take on Horizon, where the Collectors did just that. I think she did a great job depicting it.
I do, however, very much like the way Horizon played out (even with Shep's dialogue).
My Shep, at least, thought that Kaidan was on the ship when it was taking off - and was desperately trying to hold it together when Delan came out. Then Kaidan comes strolling up - all okay - and it was like a shell shock to her world. All articulate thought went out the window, and it took everything she had to remember that her squad was still there (including one loyal Cerberus agent).
She says some pretty uninspired things thanks to those circumstances, and Kaidan reacts accordingly - in my mind. It gives my Shepard a bit of a reality check that I very much enjoyed from a player's perspective.

Nah, my renegade Shep Meli enjoyed turning his view on aliens around.
It honestly didn't make me feel bad doing it either. I prefer him Paragon, but it was interesting to see the switch. It's also not evil. I see it as opening his eyes that you can't just blindly trust the status quo.

Not at all Fort, you know I love you & I certainly don't think you are a bad person at all...but I can't do
In fact I have a friend who feels the same way you do.... she tries to play paragon, but she can't ... she wants the horns.

Apologies for the negative comment. I've just Renegaded Kaidan for the first time. Am I the only person who got a really bad taste in her mouth from doing that? The romance confrontation combined with that dialogue is a nasty one-two punch of Kaidan being unlikable.
I just did a ME1 playthrough the other day with the romance confrontation scene -- what about it made Kaidan seem unlikeable, out of curiousity? I thought that he was portrayed as being understandably upset by the idea that Shepard may have been toying with him, since he doesn't take relationships, or breaking the regs, lightly. We spoke about the "I didn't think you liked women" line the other day in this thread, and my take on it was that he was embarassed and confused at being perceived as flirting with someone who wasn't interested, not that he was homophobic, as some people seem to think.
My only problem was that the scene came after two conversations with Kaidan and Liara at their stations, which seemed pretty fast to me, but the game did kind of rush the romance plots, compared to something like Dragon Age.
As for renegade Kaidan dialogue, I've never done it myself, but I've seen it on YouTube. I don't find it *that* bad, but I don't want to change him. I personally don't like it when NPC's personalities change markedly due to player intervention. It seems unrealistic that you change someone's world view that fast, especially someone like Kaidan, who has strong convictions.
