Can you Renegade Kaidan if you don't romance him?

from what i've read, you have to be in a romance to influence him.

I am almost 100% sure you have to be in the romance dialogue still with him to get the Intimidate option to "renegade" him.

Huh.  I thought that Sheploo would have been charismatic enough to also renegade him.
That makes me feel a little bad, though.  That femShep would use her feminine wiles to twist his views on the galaxy.

It's not that femShep uses her feminile wiles. It's that Kaidan opens up more to Shepard when he's in the romance dialogue. He expresses more of his opinion, and he listens to what you have to say more.

This.

How many times have you seen a couple end up changing each others' point of view? It happens all the time. It's not trickery or wiles; it's normal...

Damn. Means I'll have to make ANOTHER Shep to romance him. Such a chore.

Can't say I minded either the renegade lines or the confrontation lines. I liked some of the confrontation lines, and that Kaidan would step up to set things straight rather than let them get further out of hand. For renegading him, it's probably not a quick change since he's been hanging out with Shepard for a while and she's probably been rubbing off on him (particularly since he can see how effective her measures are).

Yes, you have to be in a romance to renegade Kaidan, just like you have to be in a romance to paragon Ashley. (Her yelling at Terra Nova people pre-Ilos? Priceless.)

And I always took the adjusting of either of their perspectives as simply illustrating how, watching Shep in action, (either trusting his alien teammates or having trouble dealing with politics), combined with the added weight of the emotional connection of a budding romance, was likely to change a person a bit. I mean, hunting Saren all over the galaxy is a pretty dramatic assignment.

For once I can share my work and be completely 100% on topic :D

This is not the final version yet; I need to reinstall ME1 first and get the screenshot I need for the background. But I figured that I'd share what I have right now anyway.

I come to the Kaidan Fan Thread with a certain philosophical quandary for your consideration;

Man-bum: To smek or not to smek?

To smek!!

Actually, I really do think a squeezy would be more to the "man-bum"'s preference. Kaidan's, to be precise. A smek is more alarming. Makes you go blank (!!!). Where as a squeezy squeezy is unmistaken, and Kaidan it totally a thinker.

Just my opinion, though. No need to go spreading it around.

OMG he totally has to have this face when he does it. (Shameless fanfic plug!) This is exactly what I have in mind writing the next chapter to my fanfic when he's finally reunited with Shepard. This picture is now my inspiration!

Squeezy squeezy! Oh man, I don't think I've laughed that hard in a while. I think that gutter's gonna get a bit crowded with all of us in there! :) Kaidan's bum is definitely more of the squeezable nature than the smek-able kind.

You can Renegadize Kaidan (or Paragonize Ashley) without romancing him, but it entails a lot of elaborate maneuvering and jiggering around of the conversations so that you get certain triggers well after they should be possible. I forget how to do it. I think it's possible, anyways. Could be wrong. I've never done it myself, and the person who told me about it might've been feeding me a line.

Technically, yeah, you're only supposed to be able to do it while romancing them.

Late to the party but ah well

1)  Were you satisfied with Kaidan's romance before ME2 came out?
Yep, think I've said it before on here, he was my favourite romance in me1 and so far overall, although I might have liked Garrus's more if it hadnt have felt so short. But I'll see how my opinion changes when I complete the rest of the me2 romances.

2)would you be interested in a new male human LI in ME3 if the romance was handled differently?
Well I havent played all of them, but for what I've seen I 'm quite dissapointed, however yes I would be enthusiatic to explore new relationships with one of my Shepards. However my favourite playthrough Shep will always remain loyal to Kaidan.

3)  Did the Horizon scene change your perception of Kaidan (do you like him more/less now)?
Not really, in the sense that I dont think he's had a dramatic character change. He seems like the same Kaidan just hurt so more angry that he maybe should have been. But it was great to see him be assertive and authoritative. I pretty much like him the same, definately no negative change =)

Good Morning everyone :P

1) Yes I was satisfied with the romance in ME1... I enjoyed the way the relationship developed. Maybe there could have been some more special dialogues... but besides that it was great.

2)It could be interesting...with a new Shepard. But actually I don't care for new romances... I rather would want that the relationships which already exist are going deeper....

3) No, it was of course, painful for my femshep and she maybe did not agree with everything, but then again she rather wants a man who has his own mind and stands up to it, then a little puppy who just follows her blind...

I play mostly paragon...but I started to use sometimes renegade options, but more the 'big mouth' stuff... l was thinking about being more renegade... but I'm a :innocent:  ...at least here:D ...and that's why I did not renegade Kaidan either

And now I have to get a coffee...
