True. Perhaps he was counting on what he knew of Shepard already--that if she was on the same page she wouldn't hesistate to initiate. So he could hide behind formality and be a bit obscure in his references without jeopardizing his rather precarious position.sagequeen wrote...

Do you think that Kaidan went to her quarters with the intent of seducing her? I doubt it. As she says, he's still so hesitant. I think he more planned to clear the air between them, try to lay things out a little more. But Kaidan always has a backup plan. I think he thought about it and perhaps hoped. And he picked a location for the interaction where they would have privacy.
But if she hadn't made the first move? I don't think there would have been enough time for him to get around to it before the reached Ilos.
oh, see, i TOTALLY think he did. totally. he's been hinting about shore leave, tried to kiss her, and then he just *happens* to show up in her quarters? too many of the lines hint that, i think. if you reject him, he asks not to be kept waiting. if shep says, "you're more than a subordinate - don't you think it's time you started acting like it?" he immediately jumps to the conclusion of breaking regs. i just totally took it that his mind was already there - he's just hesitating to see if she's on board, because 1) that's what he does and 2) she's his superior officer and if he read her signals wrong she might totally nail his **** to the wall. (<-- my edit there, not the forums)
I guess he is in a bit of a sticky spot there. If he's too forward, he'll have his butt handed to him romantically and professionally.
But if Shepard had decided to play coy/hard to get there, I don't know how long it would have taken him to initiate anything. Then again I suppose he's got to watch his footing.
Or perhaps, to him, he is being clear. I know some of you aren't big Twilight fans. But the books are romantic--esp with how they are woven through with classic literature (which I love), but anyways...I can't help but think of how frustrated Bella feels by how cryptic Edward is all of the time. But when you read the story from Edward's perspective, he's frustrated with how open and transparent he feels that he is with her. He has no idea that he's being cryptic.
I wonder if Kaidan doesn't quite realize he's not being clear or if he's doing so purposefully. Probably the latter, knowing his preference for leaving a way out.
Just kinda thinking "out loud" as it were.
With that last phrase, all I have running through my head is that conversation of the Warden with Alistair about his virginity and him saying, "I haven't had the pleasure."sage

Yeah the part where he says "This can't change anything, Shepard" is like way to kill the mood, Alenko. *rolls eyes* Of course its going to change everything no matter how hard you try to fight against it. It only took Kaidan 2 years to figure that one out.
yes, he is charmingly...deluding himself there. again though, i keep thinking that is completely an indication he wanted her and came for such purposes. i dunno. it sounded like something he rehearsed in his head - along with "it's been a pleasure"...
Once again, though, poor Kaidan. How hard would it have been to try to figure out what to say without it sounding like that old cliche that he's going into battle tomorrow and this might be his last night alive. How long was he pacing outside her door trying to find something to say that didn't sound just as cheesy as "the priiiiize" did. LOL

re Kaidan going to Shep's cabin - I think he went there to see if she was ok and talk out his thoughts and feelings about the situation a bit. He already knew she was interested after the almost kiss and the shore leave comments. He may have thought about what would happen when they got shore leave but I don't think he went in there with a preconceived plan that anything was going to happen. I don't think he would have initiated it if Shepard hadn't taken control. Although if Shep tells him not now he does say something to the effect of not keeping him waiting too long so I suppose it could be taken both ways, lol.

How any one at Bioware thought that was a good romance, has a giant hole in their head from a traigc accident in the adult section of a movie store.

I think that the "this is the finest crew I've ever been on" bit was an extension of the "I've enjoyed serving under you" bit before he got sidetracked - both were things he felt he needed to say before things potentially went to heck and I suspect that's his official story for being there.
And we all know what to think about official stories, now don't we? :innocent:
(And I never had a problem with either of their... erm... roles in the scene - the grab and kiss happens fast to the point it seems mutual to me, and I'm sure they can do whatever the imagination wants offscreen.)

and speaking of VS survivors, I know a few of us are going to Dragon Con or happen to live in Atlanta. I'm trying to get a dinner on Thursday before the con starts going. PM me if you're interested. There's also a discussion going on in "The Lounge."
Also, there's a discussion in "Ashley Kaidan and Liara fans Unite Here!" if you're a member of that group. Just had to add an extra in it.
Re- Kaidan entering Shepard's quarters:
The night before Ilos isn't "canon" for my Shepard... but there's fic for that. But in speaking terms of the game, I'm not sure if his initial intent was to get into bed with her. His dialog there certainly doesn't suggest that wooing of any sort is going on. He's about as smooth as sandpaper and if his intent was to get some, then I think he would have botched that up with something like, "I was wondering if you wanted to uhh... you know... engage in some *cough* physical training."
Edit: Which isn't to say that he didn't want it in the first place because he totally did.

still, i like to think that he was seriously...hoping. i just don't see him coming around the corner without something like that lurking in the recesses of his mind.

Kaidan's male; it's always going to be lurking in the recesses of his mind XD
nevermind me I will be over there.
I dont think Kaidan was coming in just for having some fun, he probably wanted to square things away before Ilos, and if nookies came up, oh well.
