And don't be sorry. It was a really nice analysis.Lovestories wrote...
You know I really love this picture, who made it?
I love the juxtaposition of it. Kaidan standing with the Citadel in the background as place just like him is/was broken (when shepard was KIA) and had/has to rebuild. And just like the Citadel hes not completely healed as apparent when he sees Shepard again on horizon.
Versus Shepard standing in what looks like a confined space. Not much light or air, its like a reminder of the burden shes faced with. She pretty much cant get a break. Shes brought back from death and thrust into her duty again. She has no escape from what she must do, whether she wants to be a hero or not she hasnt really got a choice if she wont do it, who else will? She doesnt get any human moments, she has to present herself as superwoman all the time. Its like that picture of kaidan on her desk not only reminds us that she longs for him, but it reminds us that shes a human, not superwoman and needs support as physically represented with her leaning agaisnt a wall much like kaidan. Longing for the support of her loved one
Sorry done some rambling and probably boring analysis to you guys (i love analysing things) about this picture (well if anyone cares to read it). Not saying that is was the owner's intention Its just I was looking at it think wow this shepard is beautiful and part of that was the emotion captured in her face. it seems like its telling a thousand words. Meh or I should go to bed because its 2am you know either one
I love this photo, too.
EDIT: Teen, if you're around, I tried your Shep's code with my own mods when I brought over my Kara from ME2. Figured she'd want plastic surgery done.

I use this photo often as a caption for my fanfic. Because it's very telling on where both Kaidan and Shepard are coming from.
Lovely analysis by the way.

With all this Kaidan hair/facial hair talk, I think we need a Kaidan with full beard picture. Not like a ZZ Top beard, but a hockey playoff beard. His dad does live in Canada....
I'd love to see artwork this since I did give him actual facial hair for the first few chapters of my fic. (and there was an almost unanimous KAST disapproval over that.) I could pod him, but giving him a beard was considered over the line.

"You're paranoid."
And before that it's, "Nihlus gave you a compliment... so... you hate him."
And I know this because apparently two Shepards cannot ever be created the same. <_<

@Shenzi: I actually loved the image of bearded Kaidan in my head when I read your fic. I even commented on it. And then I was like "Awww, man" when he shaved it off. I guess everyone is so used to seeing him clean-shaven that it's hard to imagine him with a beard. Either way, he's hot!

Hehe, yeah, I think I decided that realism be damned, I was going to make a pretty Shepard no matter what. And this particular Shepard was loosely based on January Jones, just because she's way too cute to be an action star. But we did have Buffy, and Veronica Mars. We need more "cute" female badasses!
Oh, and even though Jho doesn't post much here anymore, you can still find her art at her deviantart: http://jhourney.deviantart.com/. Hopefully she finds her muse again one day and graces us with more Kaidan love.

The idea for the beard came about because I wanted there to be noticeable differences in both characters from the last time they'd seen each other. For Kate it was her short hair and artificial eyes, for Kaidan a beard seemed the most obvious choice although I did poke at the fact that he's aged more than just two years since the SR1 was destroyed in the chapter where Kate had her major breakdown.
I saw your review after chapter 3 and thought "She's not going to be happy with me after the next chapter."

He is handsome enough, I think it could be pulled off. But I am a fan of handsome guys with beards (google gerard butler+beard for some eye candy) They just have to keep it short and trimmed.

Kaidan has aged more than two years from the events in ME1, at least from what I've noticed; he certianly looked more rough around the edges on Horizon, and more mature. Maybe this was a deliberate attempt by the dev's to show how much the stress has worn him down? Or maybe as a result of better graphics/improved visuals overall?

And yet I still find him more attractive than in ME1. Partially how he carries himself, I think.

Ugh, me too! Less than a day after it came out. I was just waiting for a reunion with Kaidan, my heart pounding, staring anxiously at the screen. And then he got mad, and I got sad. Then he walked away. I sat there, dumb-founded, convinced I'd somehow f*cked up the conversation. So I REDID IT.
BIG FAT NO. I was soooooo sad. Then I cried. And stared at his picture.
Then I got his email, and my little heart dared to hope and did a little flutter.
Man, I'm gonna write my fluff now. I got one "yea" response from my fic, good enough for me!

@Jade: I agree it's both graphics and the rough two years. For some reason, he looked a lot more mature to me.
@Quantum: I was the same way. I, literally, felt sick to my stomach after Horizon. I was waiting so long to see him in ME2 and it was like I got punched in the gut.

Every time I play that scene, it's like another slap in the face. I really just want a "run and tackle" option. It tore my heart up the first time he walked away from me.

"Run and tackle" option?!
As for our other topic, Kaidan with facial hair: this deserves a yes please as well! I agree with all the Kaidanites who like the short and trimmed, or as L.Aendrus put it a "hockey playoff" type of beard. Some of the pictures generously posted of Kaidan darken his five o'clock shadow considerably, and... whew! Did the temperature just go up a few degrees?
