Kaidan isn't just pixels though, I think he has come to represent an ideal, if you will. A place to set the bar, a fantasy of perfect man and so if you get really involved in your game and wrapped up in the story there are emotions that will spill out. Like watching a sad love story, like...... well, 'Love Story', would actually be a perfect example. How many people must have cried over that movie?
I know for me the end of ME2 is just such a powerful thing, seeing this team I built working together for one goal it gives a sense of there having been a reason for all the silly loyalty missions and I cried all the way through the end (must have looked hilarious sobbing and killing....) As the weight of Shepard's mission hits home, the things she has sacrificed to get there, the emptiness she must feel at not having the man she loves at her side as he was constantly in the fight against Saren and Sovereign, it is impossible not to get swept up in that imo :-)
Chakwas gratitude is so humble and touching it caused a mini breakdown with me ;-) And every bit of news caused the same sort of thing - hearing that Mordin and the rescued crew were safely on board the Normandy..............
I'll shut up now.
Morning everyone, I am properly back now and ready to talk Kaidan again (BB has been a massive disappointment this year, completely ruined by the producers, so not watching any more)

I'm pretty sure he's been on an episode of Charmed, you know when Phoebe and Paige conjure Piper her perfect man for her birthday.

And he's so yummy but i still prefer:

@Kassy I seriously cannot wait for ME3. Every time I think about it // play it // write my fic // read other fics, I just want ME3. Please, bioware?

Every time I play that scene, it's like another slap in the face. I really just want a "run and tackle" option. It tore my heart up the first time he walked away from me. :( Each time it happens again just tears the wound open anew.

"Run and tackle" option?! Posted Image Yes please!!

As for our other topic, Kaidan with facial hair: this deserves a yes please as well! I agree with all the Kaidanites who like the short and trimmed, or as L.Aendrus put it a "hockey playoff" type of beard. Some of the pictures generously posted of Kaidan darken his five o'clock shadow considerably, and... whew! Did the temperature just go up a few degrees? Posted Image

Going back and forth between ME1 and ME2 is interesting in studying Kaidan.
In ME1 he's very mature--in his dealings with Shepard, in relating his past, in his duty.  But in other ways he seems incongruously young--his awe at many things in the Citadel, his inexperience with his feelings for Shepard at times--he sometimes has quite an innocent/naieve quality to him.
In ME2 the years of pain, sorrow and the weight of command are apparent.  He seems a bit more worn and weary.  Yet he's more confident.  And for the first time we see him make a stand against Shepard.  He never really had to before.
I just find the paradoxes and changes in the character interesting and look forward to what ME3 will bring for his character.

I sometimes wonder if having a support thread this big, with this many people, well before ME2, could have changed the Virmire Survivor's role in that game.  Maybe they thought that we didn't care, because we weren't posting the way Tali fans were back then?  I'd hate to think that taking Kaidan's presence in the game for granted could have caused the writers to believe that giving him and Ashley a good role wasn't important to us.

So yeah...if there's the smallest chance that showing that we care about Kaidan makes a difference, I'm not going to calm down, personally.

OMG, look, it's Kaidan!!!  :o

I don't think it would have changed much.  The devs have stated that they had the story outlined since before they started ME1.  Kaidan and Ash (and Liara somewhat) had to be kept pretty much out of the picture (1) to keep them safe and (2) to heighten the tension for Shepard--her "darkest before the dawn" part of the story.  A nice happy reunion with Kaidan would not give that "spiral into hell" that is part and parcel of an Act 2.

Yeah, I think now that they are seeing the disappointment and in some cases outright nerdrage of the fans of Liara and the V.S. they are realizing the mistake they made with the crappy cameos.

Or I am giving them too much credit.

Mass Effect 2 for the PS3, and a MaleHawke trailer for DA2 (that shows me absolutely nothing about the real game).  Well, I guess waiting for good news is a good thing, if that means they're taking their time and making ME3 better.

I had a little bit of hope...really little tiny hope,,. but well, I guess we have to wait...

@ teen...I agree with that what you said,,, but I'm curious about DA2...and...TOR,,,,

and after those are released ...I hope for a big ME3 trailer...and then for the release date...and then for the reunion...*sighs*

I think the day they release ME3 I won't be available for anyone, but my PC....

Well according to BW they care about their characters as much as we do, and according to them the roles were already set in stone. But for some reason I can't help questioning that, especially with how they fanserviced the Tali and Garrus fans. Can't honestly believe their roles were set in stone as the trilogy formed either. I mean if they were meant to be romancable in ME2, you would think they would have made the whole alien/human thing less complicated. (Garrus's anatomy and Tali's suit etc) :P
I really do think they just started from scratch for ME2 and only the most popular ME1 characters got the same love and care as the new characters they created for ME2. The whole Horizon scene could have used a whole lot more attention, dialogue and animation wise. It's sloppy on a lot of fronts, again coming across as if it was an afterthought...or a 'simple' job to continue the original romance like they promised.

But they 'were saved for ME3', which is still something I take with a large grain of salt. But we'll see, maybe our presence here did make a difference. Maybe we'll get a fanservice too, though in all honestly we don't have the numbers Tali and Garrus had back then....I think. Does it matter though? No clue.

Hmm still not sure why they would be saved for ME3. Why make characters, who got so much hate after ME1, important in ME3? Unless it's the stone thing again ;)
Ah my hungry mind still can't wrap itself around the whole subject, even after all these months. I need dinner ;)

And Teen, I can't stop staring at your avatar...it's....distracting....

edit : awww, while typing you changed it to your DA char again...*sobs* Not that she isn't lovely :)

Haha, I just changed my avatar back, for you, Jho.  I was worried that it's a little too "risque", but the scene it comes from is completely innocent...Posted Image

As far as the characters roles being set "in stone"; I do actually hope that's true, it would bode well for the Virmire Survivor.  Tali and Garrus can't be held as examples of changing the story, because, as Casey Hudson has said, the characters who went on the suicide mission are not guaranteed to live.  So some people will not have Tali or Garrus in ME3, and they need to make their roles in the next game flexible.  Wrex was interchangable with Wreav, but the Virmire Survivor is always Ashley or Kaidan, and one of them is definitely alive at the end of ME2.  So I do have some hope to cling to, for now...

Raurgh. ME2 for PS3... I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm happy for PS3 folks, but the devs are doing a massive backtrack by doing this.

If anyone was a regular on the old forums, the devs would constantly lock down threads with the line, "ME2 is for xbox360 and pc only and will never be on PS3 so just stop." They also locked threads with the line, "There is no multiplayer and never will be. Mass Effect is and always will be a single player game." And now we see that they've got a job listing for multiplayer for the ME series on linked-in.

This makes me wonder what else they'll take back. I'm preparing myself for multiple massive disappointments >.>
