What you say is really true but then who knows what they have decided... like someone said the other day (I think it was Chem) that they could kill the VS in the first scene just to move their "set in stone" story... that doesn't bode well for us...



Then there is that evil vicious little thing called HOPE....Hope that Kaidan will return as squadmate in ME3 right from the first scene.

I don't think we need to start lighting torches and sharpening pitchforks just yet. Pitchforks lose their sharpness pretty quickly, we should wait until we're really ready to storm the castle.

It's not just the character thing for me (and I'm sure that this is true for others). It's the fact that the game was fundamentally changed from the core, from gameplay to writing. Some people liked these changes and I did not.



I'll be sharpening my pitchfork in the meantime. XD

I have a dot.hack series for PS2 that I haven't touched.  Final Fantas XII.  FF XIII.  Fable.  Fable II.  Jade Empire.  I haven't touched any of them.  they can't compare with ME and Kaidan.

@Tali and Garrus:  BW wasn't intending for those two characters to have the fan following that they did--especially since Tali wears a helmet all of the time and Garrus's face looks like stone (per whatever dev was on a podcast I heard a while back).
I would assume that they had plans on putting two other throw-away LI characters in the game and when realized that they could just re-use Tali and Garrus instead, they jumped on that.
Not that the ME2 LI's are all throw away, but they are expendable to an extent since any of them can die.
The VS, on the other hand they were adamat could NOT die in ME2.  I think that his/her general role in ME3 is relatively set.  Just the details that have to be worked out.

As far as the characters roles being set "in stone"; I do actually hope that's true, it would bode well for the Virmire Survivor.  Tali and Garrus can't be held as examples of changing the story, because, as Casey Hudson has said, the characters who went on the suicide mission are not guaranteed to live.  So some people will not have Tali or Garrus in ME3, and they need to make their roles in the next game flexible.  Wrex was interchangable with Wreav, but the Virmire Survivor is always Ashley or Kaidan, and one of them is definitely alive at the end of ME2.  So I do have some hope to cling to, for now...

Hope is such an odd thing, it gives a little bit of comfort I suppose. But darnit, the wait is so long. Have a feeling that when we finally get to play ME3, we will look back at this thread and just shake our heads. Or it will serve as fuel for our rage, who knows
My poor Shepard has been waiting a long time for some closure, the poor thing. 2 years to have Kaidan yell at her on Horizon and then another long wait to return the favor before kissing and doing the whole making up thing

Is there any way to get the devs to hear our opinions rather than just the very vocal kindergamers?

I am tempted to join twitter just because Christina gave her handle for it. But heck. I can't even keep up with Facebook. Last thing I need is another program to keep track of.



My consolation is that The Force Unleashed II will be out end of oct. Then DA II early 2011. Then TOR mid 2011? So I will be kept a little bit distracted while awaiting even an announcement of when ME3 will be out.

Christina Norman is twitter.com/truffle, she posts very frequently, and has already commented on the PS3 port (it's a great thing!).  I wouldn't expect her to say anything new or relevant to our own interests, though, because the fate of the Virmire Survivor is story related, and that wouldn't be kosher to share right now.

I'm seriously surprised that Bioware didn't finagle the rights to ME1 on the PS3 too...it just makes sense to want a potential new audience to experience the whole story. 

I just want more RPG elements, a satisfying ending to the story, and Kaidan back as a squadmate and love interest in ME3.  If they can reassure me that those things are coming, I wouldn't worry anymore.

@Teen:  yeah.  Good VS romantic ending without tragedy (If you get to reunite with the Vs only for them to sacrifice themselves, I'll be seriously pissed).  VS as squadmate.  Frak.  I don't care about the rest.  LOL

I sometimes wonder if having a support thread this big, with this many people, well before ME2, could have changed the Virmire Survivor's role in that game.  Maybe they thought that we didn't care, because we weren't posting the way Tali fans were back then?  I'd hate to think that taking Kaidan's presence in the game for granted could have caused the writers to believe that giving him and Ashley a good role wasn't important to us.

So yeah...if there's the smallest chance that showing that we care about Kaidan makes a difference, I'm not going to calm down, personally.

Me neither! I don't want to risk an L2 break-down or death of Kaidan by being quiet. I can't wait to see what he's like in ME3. I loved how we got to see the changed in him from ME1 to ME2 -- see him become more confident, a bit more worn and world-weary as he assumes command. It makes him even sexier -- despite also looking a little older. I hope he gets way more attention in the third game, and that there's some resolution between him and Shepard. And damnit, it better be a good one! Though I wouldn't mind fighting for it.

Maybe that's where my "run and tackle" option will be?

I know you don't like Garrus, Fort, but they did take very good care with his romance that brings me hope for the VS.  If you didn't recruit him in ME1 (and imported that game), you CANNOT romance him in ME2.  The dialogue is just not there.  The default game assumes recruitment.  

The fact that they took that detail into consideration and wrote out the romance if you were dumb enough not to recruit him, gives me hope for the other details in VS romance, too.  They programmed something specific for the way you could play the game that is reflected in the characterization of one of the squadmates.  It's a tiny detail, but it's there.

Now, that's the only time I'll say that character's name today, I promise. :innocent:

But he's more popular so the devs bent over backwards to include that kind of stuff with him. Kaidan fans? No such luck, seeing that even one of the devs said "nobody likes Kaidan".

With the attitude that the devs have shown toward the original LI fans (especially the VS), I'm not expecting much in ME3.

i really, really like kaidan. i understand he's small picture elements but i've come to care about him and my sheps that i spent hours creating. i'm emotionally invested in these characters. what has happened to them and what will become of them affects me. i hope my decisions in me1 matter in me3 since they were glossed over in me2.
