i'm befuddled by kaidan's age. he was born later in the year 2151 so how is he thirty-five years old in me2 when that game takes place in 2185?

according to the timeline, he's born later in the year so me2 would have to take place in 2186.  however, it's 2185.  that's why i'm confused.

in order for him to turn thirty-three though, the events of me1 would have wrapped up in 2184 but instead they did in 2183.

i'm inclined to agree with you.

this is the only information we're given regarding kaidan's birth:

2151 CE

To defend its expanding territory, humanity begins constructing a massive military fleet and space station at Arcturus, the nexus of several key mass relays, even though they have yet to encounter another intelligent spacefaring race.

An accident at Singapore International Spaceport exposes hundreds of humans to dust-form element zero.  Roughly 30% of the children born in Singapore after element zero exposure suffer from cancerous growths. After his mother is exposed during the accident, Kaidan Alenko is born later that year with biotic potential.

Hmmmm. Well, his mom was pregnant with him in 2151, so she had conceived him at some point in 2150 or early 2151. Assuming a normal 9-month gestation period, Kaidan could have been born at almost any time in 2151. If his mother was 7 months pregnant when he was exposed, and if the accident happened in January, he could have been born in March. If she was only a little bit pregnant, and the accident happened in March, he could have been born in December. He doesn't strike me as a Scorpio or Sagittarius though, but he could be a Taurus or a Cancer.

i dunno. i think kaidan knows shep is capable of very outlandish behavior, and just doesn't want to miss any moment of it? maybe that's just me.

Depending on how long you're taking during the events of ME2, Kaidan could have his birthday before you catch up to him on Horizon.  According to Jacob, it's been "two years, seventeen days" since the Normandy crash right after you wake up, and everything else has to take some time.

In my head, it takes about a year to hunt down Saren - so he's 33 by the end of ME1 and add two years.  But then, in my head, anything in ME2 that contradicts ME1 is blatantly ignored, so....

I actually found the conversation with Joker after Horizon to be a nice touch.  I would have preferred better answers on Shepard's side (since they're all variants of "Eh, the relationship is over.") but at least Joker is somewhat sympathetic about it and possibly even happy that Kaidan is still... you know, alive and well, what with his hazardous occupation and being set up as bait and all.  His slip up with Kaidan's name is almost as telling as Kaidan's "I... appreciate you."

I know you guys were talking about this some pages back, however I wanted to mention that I think Kirk acevedo would make a really good Kaidan. I saw him on Fringe and he just kept making me think of Kaidan. He has a similar voice too imo. what do you think?

Sigh. I may need to relinquish Kaidan as one of my top favorites from this series since my favorite from another just bit the dust. Again.

Or maybe he'll just be sidelined for a good while... You never know with these comics.

your thinking is completely logical.  bioware's timeline not so much.  there's no way kaidan who was born on some unknown date in 2151 was 32 during the events of me1 in 2183.  then two years pass for the second installment where he's 35 in 2185 as opposed to 35 in 2186.  that means the events of both games took mere months to finish.  it does not add up and i should not be attempting to discern anything from said timeline.  the kast should reach a consenus and give the man a birthday and backstory because it has obviously been flubbed.

Sometimes being born really early in the year or at the very end confuses people. Or at least I was born in January and people always have a hard time adding it up, if you get my drift. Him being 35 makes sense. 32 when ME1 started, turned 33 sometime during ME1 events, Shep died and 2 more years passed.

I may have to add a Kaidan birthday party into my fanfiction.  Shepard jumping out of a cake too much?

he was born later in the year in 2151.  let's say that's february to bioware.  he's still not 35 in 2185 during me2.  that timeline is bananas.
