I find non-biotic characters boring as hell to play. They also don't seem to go as well with a certain lieutenant.

...!

No, that's... accurate, I guess.

Hey gals, you're getting rather cliquish.  It's really starting to read like you're saying "My Shepard a better match for Kaidan because she's a biotic".  It's okay to have an opinion, but you don't need to bash other people.

I play an Infiltrator and she meshes with Kaidan perfectly.  Just because Maddie isn't a biotic, doesn't mean that can't sympathize with what he went through.  And since she is just a "normal" human, she may even help him feel a bit more accepted.

As for game play, I love sniping.  One shot, one kill is very, very satisfying.  And all good snipers need someone to watch their backs.  Someone handy with pistols and the ability to push enemies back *hint, hint*.

Eh. I play a pure soldier. I was going to argue, but it occurred to me that she doesn't get along with Kaidan all of the time, and biotics is a part of that.

I rarely ever play magic-using classes. I like magic, but I can't get into it, so to speak.

I don't think everyone here plays biotic Shepards, Razor. I don't know whether they're soldiers or infiltrators but JaerWolfe's and Night's Shepards aren't biotic and have a fondness for sniper rifles.

Sniper Rifles.

Shepard tried to teach Kaidan some sniper rifle tricks once...

I see both sides. Shepard and Kaidan were made for each other :3

I know that not everyone here uses biotic Shepards, it just annoys me when people say that non-biotic Shepards are worse than biotic Shepards.

Especially in regards to the relationship they have with Kaidan.

If all Sheps weren't made to fit with Kaidan, the game wouldn't make it an option.

I'm not good at aim and shoot. So magic works better for me and soldier would likely be a nightmare for me. Vanguard is as close as I'll come. But that's my problem with hand-eye coordination, not Shepard's or Kaidan's problem. *shrugs* Yup. I use that pause button lots.

I apologize.  I was speaking on a personal level, and didn't mean to imply that all non-biotic Shepards share the same compatibility (or lack thereof) when it comes to Kaidan (or enjoyability to play, for that matter).

Would you accept this chair as a token of my friendship?

I don't think that anyone thinks that non-biotic Shepards are "worse" for Kaidan, but having that in common can be a bond for them.

Personally, I LOVED biotics in ME1, but playing my vanguard and adept characters in ME2 was kind of a chore.  I actually have been doing a new game plus on Insanity reaaaaaally slowly, and I had to play as a soldier, because it really was insanity for me to try it with my adept.  (I'm sure it's a breeze for someone else out there, but not me...)  Soldier was the first class I played in ME1, and I'm enjoying it again in ME2, just for how straightforward deadly it is, especiallly on higher difficulties.

I've actually been thinking about writing my Shepard's story for a while, and since I already changed her "canon" once, from colonist to spacer, I've been considering making her into a soldier, too.  Her hook is that Gwen Shepard is an ordinary person in extraordinary times, so it would make sense for her not to be a space wizard, even if it is pretty cool.

Plus, I do think the idea of Shepard being this amazing badass, but not having this special thing that Kaidan has, can be cool (and sexy!).  So sharing biotics or not, Shepard and Kaidan make a lot of sense to me.

Fondness? FONDNESS? How dare you cheapen the deep and abiding love my Shep has for her Widow? This is the love poets ASPIRE to write about and cry tears when they are forced to settle for a pale mimicry.

Joisan, I thought better of you.;)

I'm all about the zen. Yin and yang. Biotics may compliment Kaidan but non-biotics balance him.

Most of the Shepards I've played through the games with are biotic. But mostly because it suits my play style cause I suck at shooting, and I just like biotics, lol. I don't think I've ever gone through character creation with 'what would suit Kaidan best' in my mind. It largely depends on my mood at the time as to what class she is, (or what she looks like), lol

I used to help with a divorce recovery program. The philosophy in general was the more things a couple has in common, the better they bond long-term.

So that's why I like my personal Shepards to be biotic and why my canon femShep is also a military brat like Kaidan.

Well, I apologize.  Shall I say, then, that the only love stronger than Shepard's deep and abiding passion for her Widow is her love for Kaidan? :)

I like that.

That's the idea I get when Kaidan says "You make me feel human".  I think that he's trying to say  You made me realize that I can be accepted for who I am.  And that is more important than what I am and what I did.

The Widow was my Shep's only LI in ME2. When she cheated, it was with the Incisor. There was much drama.
Oh, and let's not talk about her love for the Kestral armor. Except for the
shoulder pads. Those are sooooo last millenium. Like, totally the 80's. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

I like that interpretation Kaidan's comment you made, too. Particularly when you think of what his childhood and years at BAaT would have been like for him as one of the first gen human biotics.
In fact, that comment of his has always bugged me because I didn't quite understand it. Looking at it from your perspective, it actually makes sense.

edit...I hate empty spaces

I like the yin/yang comparison.

And I took the "You make me feel human," as bit closer to a "hey, you actually treat me like a person, and I like that," but I like this one, too.  :wizard:

This is my interpretation of the line as well. All his life, his biotics have made him different than everyone else. Normal people mistrust him and see him as a danger, especially with his L2s. The Alliance sees him as a tool.

I mean, it has to be difficult for someone like that to find a date, let alone form a basic relationship. Hell, I bet it's tough for him to find friends outside of the Alliance where they're more used to biotics. Biotics are misunderstood and feared because of their potential. And Shepard sees past that; Kaidan is a person to her.

It's one thing that makes the romance that awesome.

Aaaand now it's reminding me of a Backstreet Boys song. I really need some sleep

That's how I always took the quote too.  Poor dude.  That's why I think the Shenko romance is very sweet.

Really the love of a widow can only be overshadowed by the love for Kaidan....

Okay I did try to play biotic once... and I still reverted to my guns... That Shepard did make it through the game, but she died a lot more... biotics only work if you remember to use them... and can remember what button you assigned to what power instead of just hitting them arbitrarily... Posted Image  I find the guns so much more... enjoyable... (for the record I don't make a good mage either)

I do like the barrier though... anything that makes Shepard harder to hit...

These are my thoughts about it as well, Kaidan felt normal around Shepard were he could also be himself.

Sans the Backstreet Boys reference of course...Kansas 'Hopelessly Human'  Maybe (I am a lot older then Fort) Posted Image

I love this interpretation. It's always kind of how I played that scene, but I'd never really put it into words. His words are just so full of meaning, and trust -- you can't not love him.
