makes me wonder what kaidan's skills would look like in me3 if the gameplay stays the same (which i assume it will). i assume he'd keep barrier and a tech skill of some kind? maybe throw?

Yeah, I'd like to see Kaidan with that power, too.

huh. i may be one of the few kaidan fans then that actually prefers me2 on the whole - kaidan's role completely aside, obviously. though they really are so different it's hard to compare, especially storywise. but yeah, i do like me2 better. it's...colder, somehow, but better handling. me1 is warmer? but awkward play style. my opinion, however. like i said, i think that's the minority for kaidan fans.
I prefer ME2 gameplay to ME1 gameplay, but I love the story in both games. Isn't there some adage or something about how the second piece in a trilogy is often the least liked? ME2 did give me a lot of questions, and I'm feeling strung along with my ME1 romance (seriously, need a resolution!), but damn I loved that game so much. It's a darker game than ME1, and I love that aspect. It feels almost bleak at points -- like this is it, you could seriously die. The consequences felt more real to me in ME2, and I think that's why I like it so much more. I only wish that the decisions from ME1 had more of an impact than they did -- but I can understand from a technical standpoint why they didn't. Hopefully some of the bigger ones (rachni, council, LI, etc) from ME1 will have vastly different effects in the third game.
Anyway, just wanted to say I'm with you on this one, Sage!

Alright ladies (and dudes, I know you're out there)...
Perhaps this has been discussed here before. I'd go to the ME Movie post, but all I care to post about is Kaidan (and the boards' search feature is not as good as it could be). I saw this guy: Ian Anthony Dale in an ad for "The Event" TV series and I personally think he HAS to play Kaidan in the movie. Anyone else?
I'd post his picture, but I don't know that imdb will allow that sort of thing and I my work blocks us from photobucket & flickr.
Anyone have any better choices?

@ sagequeen-- I understand exactly what you mean. I replayed ME1 with a Paragade FemShep and I was definitely missing ME2 controls. I also prefer ME2 on the whole, but it's hard to compare the stories because they're different. I think ME1 was warmer because, besides the council, Shep was under the fuzzy Alliance blanket within a nice, warm house--she had Hackett, Anderson, a pre-made Alliance staff, and Alenko, with a few aliens picked up in the beginning of the game. The Normandy SR-1 had nice warm, blue lighting. In ME2, BioWare declared, "Oh, snap!" toward the storyline, and that fuzzy blanket is whipped away and replaced with a plastic Cerberus tarp. And your Shep is thrown outside in raining weather. Even the Normandy SR-2's lighting is different--a cold, icy white flurescent light. The team had to be rebuilt from scratch for the mission, minus the ship staff.
I think a lot of people didn't like ME2 because of that cold tarp and rain.

@ quantumparadigm--- I think because the 1st game is the exposition, and the 3rd is the climax/conclusion, people tend to think the ME2 story stagnates and shuffles from foot to foot, when it in fact continues the rising action of the ME story arc. Think about how many important bits of information we learned from the loyalty missions, and what we learned about the Collectors and Reapers. And you're right about how the consequences felt more real-- influencing quarian support, destroying/rewriting geth, keeping/destroying Collector Base---lots of consequences for ME3!

Exactly! And I could not agree with you more about Empire Strikes Back. I think what a lot of people don't like about is that it is a middle game, middle plot -- and sometimes suffers a little from it. I think that's just a problem inherent in trilogies like this where a story is told across three platforms. I'm torn between wanting ME3 now so I can have a resolution to the story and wanting to wait so it'll be a good resolution to the story.
If I could find a way in to game test it, I so would. Betas are my best friend, and Mass Effect is my all time favorite game. I wouldn't hesitate to find all the parts that needed work, find bugs, attempt to crash the game just so that the final version would be amazing. A lot of people think game testing ruins the game for the player. I don't -- I like seeing the process behind how things work.
I'm curious as to what Kaidan's role will be in the third game as well. I really want him to be a party member.

Still, I hope that in the end it'll all come together, even though this whole standalone philosophy makes me a bit weary.
I'm also very curious as to what Kaidan's role will be and if the decisions you've made will matter in ME3 - renegading/romancing him or not.

Actually, what I don't like is how they dealt with the choices you made in ME1 - you get messages, tiny, tiny cameos, little to no dialogue changes. I enjoyed ME2 as a whole, but some loyalty missions felt a bit disconnected from the whole plot.

Judging by how they handled Garrus's "paragoning" from ME1, I really doubt any influence from ME1 will carry over for Kaidan/Ashley. If they completely reset the romance for everyone, however, I'll be way more than just disappointed. Staying faithful ought to have *some* reward, and I'd prefer a different romance track than one that new players or those just beginning his romance get.
As for ME1 v ME2, I like different things about each game. I preferred several of the squadmates from ME1, and thought the writing for those characters was better. I liked being able to explore more areas, and I really liked the side missions WAY more than the N7 missions from ME2. Although I am an RPG traditionalist, ME1 had the story and charm to win me over. ME2 has better combat in many ways, shinier graphics, and some fun moments on the recruitment and loyalty missions, but it's not an RPG anymore, and I felt like the character I made in ME1 was no longer mine. As I've said before, I'm completely baffled as to why my character did the things she did, paragon or not, and I had to use my imagination to fill in many blanks. Not as satisfying at all. But -- I do continue to replay ME2, and I do enjoy a few of the new characters, and hope they're back in ME3.

Teen, I love your banner, but it makes me think of Michelle Pfeiffer.
I didn't have to differentiate between Meghan and Avery too much in ME1. I really had to justify their differences in ME2, however. (The biggest one being Kaidan.) To me, that is role playing.

It's definitely easier in ME1 to play completely renegade or paragon, and still have the same motivations -- loyalty to the Alliance, wanting to save the galaxy from the Reapers -- in ME2, I have to wonder why my Alliance loyal Spacer would not contact her mother, or anyone except for Anderson, and why she wouldn't fight harder to get the job done without TIM pulling her strings. I have ideas for fan fiction, but I keep putting off writing. I need to stop reading gossip blogs at work and just write in my downtime, it would be more productive and I'd look like I'm working!

I agree. A meaningful romantic subplot would be great.
It'd be nice to start the game with a more or less established relationship instead of getting new LIs yet again with four to five I-like-you-do-you-like-me-circle-yes-or-no-but-not-both conversations.

I couldn't see much of the girl's pic other than the eyes, so I didn't recognize her, but there's only one "Lady Hawke."
Well, now you see the motivation behind both Loved and A Paragon of Virtue. I did have to wonder why a Sole Survivor (Meghan) worked with Cerberus at all. And I had to try to figure out why a Paragon War Hero (Avery) would do so, too. (I've never remade my Spacer Sheps, but I the only reason I can think of to not contact your mother is because you're expecting to die, AGAIN, and wait until after the O4 to do so.)
Gossip rags rot your brain. Get to writin', woman!
