I'm wondering if Kaidan would ever clash with anyone on the Normandy? I've thought about it and I can't really think of anyone. He is a nice guy and not the type who holds grudges against people (except Vyrnus or whatever his name was), however he obviously disapproves of Shepard's joining Cerberus, so he may not warm up to Miranda and Jacob.

He doesn't even hold a grudge against Vyrnnus.  "By the time I got payback, I didn't even want it."  He's either incredibly patient or repressing a lot of negativity.

My Shepard likes to poke him to see if she can get him to explode.  :innocent:

Well my Shepard likes to get him to poke her to see if she can get him to explode............. ;)
Sorry, sorry, I'll take myself round the corner and have a word with myself about that :innocent:

One fear that I've had is that the VS has been saved to have a moment of redemption where they sacrifice their lives for Shepard to defeat the reapers.

I'd ragequit if this happened. Then again I'll look up spoilers to make sure it doesn't. But I'll find something to ragequit if it happens XD

Yeah that's been in the back of my mind too, i really hope they don't do that though.

There's also been the idea that Kaidan, or Ash, might become the Shepard to Shepard's Saren.

Hello. Just another ME gal here who is crazy about that handsome biotic. I just discovered the ME games about a month ago and I've been completely hooked ever since. I've never written fanfiction before but ME inspired me and now I can't seem to stop.

The post-Horizon email made me absolutely insane. I think it bothered me even more than Kaidan's reaction in person. So I wrote my first story, which is still a work in progress, and I came up with a way to "handle" Kaidan's message.

I'm off to look at all those Kaidan picture and story links! /swoon

Ooh thats deep, and would be awsome.

Every main plot point you go to, the VS is trying to stop you.
Which leads to a Virmire like event where you either:
Kill them,
Turn them.
Or end any love or friendship and depart.

I can feel the angst already.

Yes, it would be - much like the Horizon was. Not saying I like it, but the problem is that I can actually see Bioware doing something like that.

If Kaidan works against me in ME3, then I will restart my files over and kill him on Virmire.  Then he'd die a noble death, instead of being dragged out for special means in ME3.

No. ..
No...
Just no.
If it starts that way at first, perhaps--but only until the Council can be made to understand and appreciate that the threat is real and then the two of you can work together.

I really don't want them at odds through the game, though.  There was a fic I was reading and really enjoying until the end.  It turned out that Kaidan was an agent and had reunited with her (in all ways) and he had just been sent by Anderson to get intel on what she was doing.  Kaidan had totally used her.  It made me completely ill to think of Kaidan being capable of that.

@Giggles about Shepard being in Saren's exact position.  No.  She is not.  Yes, she teamed up with Cerberus, but only because the Alliance wouldn't help her and the Council wouldn't either.  But she wasn't teamed up with the real threat in the galaxy like Saren was.  Shepard also has the ability to tell TIM to go shove it.  She's then on her own.  That's different from being teamed up with the Reapers.

Welcome Ariaya!  The more Kaidan fans, the merrier.  We need to show BioWare that Kaidan has a lot more appeal that he is given credit for.

Thanks Jade and Sialater for the welcome. :)

Trying to follow the discussion and I'm with you all....but what does "VS" stand for?

I know I'm going to slap my forehead and go "doh" when I find out.

It stands for Virmire Survivor, the person you decide to save there.

And welcome to the thread :)

VS= Virmire Survivor, aka the one you save.

Also if the council and alliance dont work with you, then you will pull a Saren as a Paragon:

You have a:

Krogan, Geth, and Rachni army.

Have a highly illegal ship, full of criminals and mercs.

And are going on about Reapers, either they will think you lost it, or are trying to take over.

What other abbreviations are there that we should clue her into?

LI = Love Interest

RTFM (I didn't know that one from ME1) = Read the F*ing Manual

And I'll have to read your fic when I have a chance.

You didn't like Kaidan's letter? *gasp* I love his message--granted, it would be better to get to respond or to be able to address those issues in person with him, but considering how emotional they both feel after Horizon, starting in text may actually be better for them for now.

That would have been great.

It irked me that you could invite your ME2 LI to your quarters anytime you like, but at the same time you are unable to respond to Kaidan's mail or contact him?

As was stated earlier this weekend, you couldn't even respond to your mother's e-mail chiding you for not letting her know that you were still alive! (If you were a spacer kid) Apparently Cerberus kept such a close reign on you and wanted to keep you so isolated, they didn't have a "send" button in your message program.

Jade,

I HATED Kaidan's letter. With a passion. Rant to follow!

The apology part was fine, of course. But the rest of it I just found incredibly hurtful. When I started playing ME2, I felt so lonely. I missed the crew from the first game immensely. Shepard sounds so sad/ angry/ hurt when she says to TIM (another acronym....finally figured that one out!!) "I get it. They're not available." Referring to her former crew.

Can you imagine waking up after two years of your life have disappeared in a cold, unfamiliar, and sterile lab? All the people that she knew and cared about were gone. She was thrown into the lion's den, so to speak, full of untrustworthy Cerberus operatives. I've never been able to warm up to Miranda or Jacob and I still don't trust them.

Then Horizon happens and she sees Kaidan again. He won't really listen to her and he pretty much calls her a traitor and just walks away. Ugh. But then that letter....it just gets worse.

He's so wishy washy. "Ilos meant everything to me. You were dead. I've tried to get on with my life. I kicked back a few drinks with some tart citadel doctor. Blah blah blah. Maybe, just maybe when things 'settle down' I just might give you the time of day. I claim to have loved you but I've abandoned you in what is probably one of the most difficult times of your life. Good luck with the Collectors. Try not to get hurt. See ya." - Kaidan

I can understand his immediate reaction at Horizon and I can even justify some of his logic. But his email....hate, hate, hate it.

LOL /rant over :)

Edited to add:  I agree about being frustrated by the fact that Spacer Shepard doesn't appear to contact her mother, so much so in fact, that I addressed that, too, in my fic.  In fact, it plays rather a large part.  I think she absolutely would have contacted Hannah Shepard, hands down.

But think of how it was for Kaidan for the past two years, believing you were dead. (Because resurrection isn't an easy thing to wrap a mind around.) He's grieved, mourned, and struggled to live for two years - while having to live with the thought that the woman he loved died because he followed her orders (because you can't tell me that doing what he was told in that one instant wasn't something that haunted him at night).

Edit: I'm just being devil's advocate here.

That email hurt my Shep more than Horizon - but I personally love it as I find it very IC for Kaidan.

And then... you appear and the only LOGICAL explanation (and Kaidan's a fan of logic) is that you betrayed him and the Alliance. Were you ever on his side? Did you just use him? Was Ilos a trick?

sapphyreelf, I can definitely understand Kaidan trying to move forward with his life after two years. Like you said, she was "dead." And I can't even begin to imagine how guilty he must have felt, hence my feeling that he would have taken her death very very hard. But it's the way he expresses himself in his message that irks me. And an email? These are things you talk about face to face. Of course, I suppose he didn't have many options...

Okay, okay....Kaidan email = huge sore spot for me. But even given all that, I (and my Shepard) would definitely have the capacity to forgive him and I hope we get the chance in ME3.
