I still don't have that big of a problem with Horizon or its implementation. There are so many things that are going through my Shepard's mind that being less than stellar in her dialogue is perfectly acceptable to me.

Sure, there are things I'd love for her to have said instead - but given the situation and whom is there, I don't have a problem with Shepard being shown as human and not knowing how to perfectly handle the situation for once.

I agree with you for the most part, Sapphy. I just don't like that it's one of the few places Shepard's eloquence deserts her.

Our incredibly eloquent, dynamic, charismatic Commander Shepard who talked the Council into making her the first human Spectre, convinced Saren Aterius to redeem his honor with his suicide, and then get her friend Tali off charges of treason with only the strength of her convictions says to the man she supposedly loves, "How you doin'?" when she reappears after being dead for two years.

I'll take crappy writing for 1000, Alex.

That baffled me to no end.

A personal favourite of mine is also the "I didn't want to re-open old wounds."-line. Posted Image

I blame the desertion still on the fact that up until Kaidan speaks in that cut scene that Shepard is convinced Kaidan was abducted. I'd have little eloquence left after that. But that's just me.

I know.  Didn't Shepard just rush down to the planet to save him from the Collectors?  Yeah.  I know.  It was for the colonists, right?  Yeah, but for me it was a secondary objective.  I searched everywhere for Kaidan.  Then that ship takes off.  Keelah!  Then Kaidan comes out almost like out of a dream sequence.  He's okay!  Shepard should have run to him, held him and said "Thank God you're okay!"  What do we get?  "How you doin'?"  Thanks Joey.  Posted Image

Oh I hate this line.

You were madly in love with him a matter of a few weeks ago and that's what your'e going to say? So what's she saying, that she's over it too? For the love of god, it sounds like she didn't plan on ever seeing him ever again.

Crappy, crappy writing on that line. No wonder he got pissed. <_<

Ugh.  No kidding.  Shepard's a fighter.  Fight, darn it!  Kaidan's a man worth fighting for!

"so who wants to talk about horizon being the best part of me2?" - that's an inside joke.

my sheps would have chosen none of the above. the way they acted and spoke to kaidan was completely out of character for all of them.

I only used it once because the conversation wheel option was something like "I didn't want to hurt you.". It is so unbelievably cold. I was surprised that Kaidan didn't just walk off.

Completely agree. All the Paragon dialogue sucks for Horizon.  Some of the neutral too.

"Kaidan, it's been too long.  How've you been?"  With no emotion.  Or, "You don't sound too happy to see me.  Is something bothering you?  She's been two years!
"Join me!  It'll be like old times."  Not when she's working with Cerberus and she's been dead for two years!  Or, "So long, Kaidan."

I really wanted Shepard to go, "I'm sorry Cerberus is a terrorist organization, and that I was comatose, and that I'm a zombie, don't leave me with these Cerberus twits!  Anderson stonewalled me too, I guess he's still pissed I made him Councillor!"
Or, even better: punch Kaidan and drag him back to the Normandy SR-2.

Although I still believe Kaidan leaving is much more believable than him joining Cerberus to follow his resurrected girlfriend, Horizon still makes me cringe.

I actually ended playing Horizon multiple times just to make sure I knew what options were most in character for my Shepard. It helps to have autosave on so you have a save at the start of the Praetorian boss, but turn it off afterwards so the praetorian boss autosave won't get overwritten when you finish the conversation with Kaidan. Then you can just load up that autosave as much as you want - turn the difficulty down to casual and use the collector beam. Shouldn't take longer than 30 seconds to kill it.

It's like she persumed everyone moved on, so she can play she did too. I will never understand that. I've always said Shepard is good in lying to herself (at least mine is) but that was just insulting. So always the middle line for me.

This is one thing that puzzles me about people who absolutely despise Kaidan and Ashley after Horizon:  what did they actually expect them to do?  Go AWOL from the Alliance and join Cerberus, because Shepard asked nicely???  Even if they weren't as upset, or didn't call Shepard a traitor, what were they supposed to think, when Shepard shows up with no explanation of where she's been for two years?

From Kaidan/Ashley's perspective, either:  1) Shepard really was in a coma for two years, and Cerberus saved her life, (because Shepard never really gives a full description of what happened to her, so he doesn't even know she was resurrected from the dead), and as Kaidan said, she's working with Cerberus out of a sense of obligation (because he doesn't know about the suicide mission), or she's been deceived or brainwashed by Cerberus, OR 2) Shepard is lying about where she's been all this time, and was a Cerberus agent all along.

Either option is a LOT to process, when you're just coming out of paralysis, you're in shock because you just saw the person you loved whom you thought was dead for all this time, and you see they're working for an evil organization and have deserted the Alliance, for no discernible reason.  What would any reasonable person do, in that situation?  Why would quitting their job and running off with that person even be an option to anyone with common sense, much less a sense of loyalty and duty towards the Alliance???

Yes, except that neither he or she did.

I was torn between really, really wanting to have an option in the conversation to show that my Shepard still cared - especially after Kaidan pretty much spelled it out how much you meant to him - and thinking that Horizon just isn't the right place for this kind of conversation. Which just makes me even more sad that there is no way to contact him before or after the Suicide Mission.

Agreed, I mentioned the same thing a couple pages back.  The whole situation is absurd for Ashley or Kaidan, and even more so if they were a LI.

None of the other squaddies join Shepard's crew (except for Garrus, because he has nobody, and I think Tali joins out of her frustration at the Admiralty Board and the outcome of her Haestrom mission).  They all have their own loyalties, how is VS any different?

I still think there could've been more to Horizon though, or at least less ambivalent dialogue on Shepard's part.  Kaidan was one of my favourite characters from ME1.

EDIT: the "enko" ending sounds more Ukrainian to me.  Maybe it was a shortened Ukrainian last name.

Sorry for interrupting with a completely unrelated question (still about Kaidan though), but I figured if anyone knows Kaidan's dialogue by heart, it's the people posting here.

I remember that at some point in his ME 1 dialogue, Kaidan says "You are hard to step away from, Shepard." (or something similar). I got this line the first time I played the game (that was ~ 2 months ago, I know I'm quite late), but I just don't find it anymore, despite saving before talking to him and trying different dialogue routes.
Now I want to re-play ME 1 with my main Shepard again and, of course, romance Kaidan. I'd really like to hear the line this time, can anyone tell me when (and how) to get it?

Thanks! :)

Very well said. It's even worse when they start to compare Ash and Kaidan's reaction to Tali and Garrus joining you without a question. As if the two situations were even remotely comparable.

this.

though it is startling to have the eternally unflappable Shepard suddenly go "dur."

i think i could have lived with horizon a LOT better if there had been a little more...something afterwards. again, only joker and kelly (<--meh) comment. i dunno - something to have the PC be able to show he/she is still thinking of kaidan other than the short picture scene. but again, i think it was supposed to be a "go out and have fun with the new LIs!" from the devs. twas supposed to tempt us away, i think. it worked for some sheps. *shrug*

I'm drawing a blank..... crap :pinched:

Edit: It's when you say "I hear you, soldier. I'm waiting with baited breath" I don't remember the text though...

You might want to just save before every conversation and reload if you don't get it.

I *think* that's what he says if you get to the romance scene, but tell him that you two need to wait...he respects your decision, and says you're a hard woman to step away from, and he's willing to wait for you...unlike a certain Cerberus operative who will call you a tease if you put him off...

If you do choose that option, ME2 actually still treats the game as though you've romanced Kaidan, and you'll get the picture on your desk.
