I wondered if the sweater line was more along the lines of Kaidan pulling up an old joke rather than his mother actually telling him to bring a sweater to Noveria specifically.  I like his Noveria squadmate banter primarily because of the incendiaries line.  XD

Even if Kaidan was an only child, it's possible he picked up his older child taking care of younger children tendancies at BAaT - he was probably one of the oldest, and I can see him and other older biotics being protective and supportive of the younger kids that would no have doubtedly been there.

i, too, took that line to be more general. i dunno - i think whatever kaidan's birth order, parents, etc., it seemed to me that he isn't terribly close to his family. he mentions dad barely, no siblings, mom in vague passing. he spent his formative years dragged off to a biotic boarding school, really. i just guess i see him as someone who has had to rely on himself for a very long time.

That's a good point about BAaTT. Also, I've never thought it was a specific line of advice, more like, at one point in his life, his mom told him, "When you go somewhere cold, always bring a sweater."

That's how I always took it.

@Rhagabul:  On the VA thing.  That's what first attracted me to Kaidan.  The character himself I had to grow to appreciate on his own merits.  Now?  Gosh.  Carth and Kaidan are completely lovely in their own ways.  I do love, however, how S'barge managed to make the voices of each and of Scorch all with their own qualities.  and yes.  That is an uber-sexy voice.

I wish Kaidan's writer(s) would drop in here sometime and talk about him. I've seen others drop in to comment on characters they were responsible for before but so little about Kaidan. Did anyone ever talk about his creation/inspiration/development/model in the old forums?

I think perhaps it would be Alenko-Love-Interest... wouldn't it?  (I don't recall what he calls Tali, though, so perhaps Shepard-Commander is... special.)
