There's obviously characters we all dislike. Sorry to Tali fans, but I think she's too much of a Mary Sue. She's the equivalent of a quarian princess (dad was on the Admiralty Board), she's a very skilled tech and super smart (Engineer Adams says in ME1 that she'd know more about the Normandy's engines than him in a month), she's "poor me," about the geth, she has to join the mission because of the valuable intel she gives on Saren, and all she told me in ME2 after her loyalty mission was that she had to fix the engines. But she didn't help me in battle anyway.
I liked Garrus. His voice acting is some of the best in the game, the romance is sweet, and he develops a lot of character growth through ME1 and ME2. He's flawed, not a Mary Sue, but a man broken down by the world he is trying to make right. And he's one of my best squadmates.
To turn it back to Kaidan, maybe that's why I like him so much--because of his flaws (and Sbarge's voice acting). He has this sad history, he can't speak directly to save himself, and he's only, "poor me," once, which is tied in to his advice to
help Shepard. And behind that sad face he has a lot of firepower in battle.
I want my Garrus and Kaidan team back for ME3!
