I agree that there are no consequences in ME2. Yes anyone can die. But no one has to. If you do everything like you are supposed, to everyone lives.
But Kaidan or Ashley HAD to die.
as the "least romanced character", kaidan has quite the devoted following.
happy 2200 kaidan!

i find the romantic/dramatic tension lovely. i just now want a REALLY good resolution to it in ME3 or a DLC. anyone listening, BW? wonder if they ever look here or if the shirtless kaidans scare them off.
edit: speaking of DLC - asked a question re: sexualizing kaidan/ashley on that thread. curious as to opinions on that.

I was trying to research if there were any dev interviews that discussed Kaidan's creation the other day and ran across a thread on another site. Some guy was baffled by the huge number of fanfics that women have written about Kaidan and wanted an explanation on why that would be. I looked at it, but it quickly turned into Kaidan hate and I didn't feel the need to spend the time on a response only to be mercilessly bashed. But its true.

I could have done with Kaidan calling Shepard a goddess. Kinda like Alistair does to his Queen in Awakening. My favorite part of the game--too bad its in the first hour.sagequeen wrote...
I, too, liked Horizon. But 1) i played it first with a renegade maleshep so my main thought was "ash is alive! oh, she's not going to like him for whole-heartedly joining Cerberus". i was too weirded out by her "he's a god" line to notice much other than that. then played a non-romanced femshep and thought, "huh, this Kaidan stuff is the same as the Ash stuff minus the god line. that's too bad that they didn't write it different" and then imported romanced shep and was like "AWW! hugs!" - so i liked the romanced shep best. it made sense compared with the others, imo. and 2) i think i hit a good dialog path on the first time off. shep saying "you've moved on" is THE WORST and i managed to avoid that first time playing it. and 3) i figured shep was about as shell shocked and adrenaline-pumped as all get out there. i sort of liked that she just went "hot kaidan is hot and okay. oh, wait! i...crap"

His romance is probably one of the best in so far.
Ties with Tali, Ash, and Thane's to me.
If enjoying the female romances that Bioware writes make me lose manly points, than I wont miss them. Not like I have any left after watching TCM for a week straight.

I was beginning to think that there weren't any guys who liked Kaidan!
I don't know why, but I always giggle when I see the word manly. Hehe. Manly points.

Ugh. I almost gave up on my maleShep game. Sooo boring. Until I went and talked to Kaidan.sagequeen wrote...
@ giggles - heh. i, too, think that sometimes the best romances are the ones written for a character that i did that's not at all like me - not female, whatever. my favorite jade empire romance was dawn star for an all-noble monk (iron palm ftw!). and my favorite da:o romance was actually zevran. i never ran a male toon, but think they would have made the best couple. anyhow. yeah. kaidan/femshep is a favorite. i think thane is a good fit for femshep too, just not mine. heh. and liara/femshep. really depends on the shep. i just can't get into manshep. i ran one, romanced miranda. i found it creepy that she rebuilt all his uh, parts, then sort of tested them out, so to speak. o.O
When I play as femShep, that top line of dialogue (asking about the state of the crew is it?) never has anything. Kaidan just talks of his own accord.
With mShep its different. You have to (at least with this convo) have to use that top dialogue to get him to talk about Canadix brining in an ex-military Turian, etc. First, though, he actually says he has a migraine!
So I guess I'll keep playing although the majority of it just seems painful to me.
@giggles: no that doesn't seem weird at all. I just think I like playing as a girl.

But it's interesting to read how Kaidan's dialogue changes for MShep.

I have the same problem, Jade. I don't think I ever completed a playthrough with MShep. I just ... can't. And it doesn't help that I can't seem to create a decent looking one with the face creator.

Its not quite Kaidan, but he's nice to look at.
But still. Apart from seeing the differences in the sparse dialogue compared to ten zillion missions, its boring as an mShep!
Why is it so much more interesing for me playing as a female? I guess 'cause I'm taking my lieutenant with me everywhere. It just doesn't feel the same when you're playing as a guy.
I was just suprised that Kaidan does, in fact, complain about his headache with mShep but doesn't with femShep!

Ohhhh that's why he "dropped off the radar". He probably changed his name to Randy Cox or something and worked at Canadix making skeezy videos.

I've started 3 MSheps. Haven't played past the first couple hours, although I got quite far with Tobias Shepard.
On the other hand, I've played ME1 and ME2 with two Femsheps, and am almost finished a 3rd playthrough of ME1 with another FemShep. (All who romanced Kaidan, but my Renegade went with Garrus and my Paragon/Neutral left him on Virmire because there wasn't time....
And I'm retconning my Paragade FemShep. That'll make it a 4th playthrough by the time I'm done.
So, I definitely prefer FemShep playthroughs based on my track record.

I just went through the dialogue with the mShep again and compared it to the corresponding femShep dialogue. Holy Crow! Its waaaayyyyyy different. No wonder some guys don't get Kaidan.
I figured that he would be giving mShep the same advice that he gives femShep. But he doesn't at all. He mentions Conatix and his distrust of them, that he wouldn't ever let them refit him with the L3. He mentions Vyrnnus, but doesn't go into the story.
He does say when mShep says that Conatix must have done something right because of how Kaidan turned out, Kaidan replies that it was because of his own initiative that he is what he is.
I still don't get the whiny thing. He mentions his headaches: "I'll have a better handle on all of it [the crew feelings on the Council stonewalling Shepard] when my head stops hurting. Another L2 flare-up."
But, if anything, Kaidan acts more "macho" about his past. He's definitely softer with femShep.
Wow, does this man have layers!

THE reason is the s/s human LOVE INTEREST, Male Shepard can NOT romance Kaidan:wub: (sigh:(). The Renegade part (Vyrnnus, council etc) is where FemShep turns Kaidan Renegade and MaleShep has NO option (damn BW, gives the ONE finger salute) to do that; unless BW FIXES that issue in ME3 (all the required decisions are there in ME1 & 2). I'm sure the same applies to Ashley & MaleShep/FemShep with no s/s LI option with FemShep. Liara is "monogendered" (ie alien female) that only has daughters, there are no male Asari.Jade5233 wrote...
