Yes, a talkthrough of Virmire would be interesting, though it is discussed enough IMO in a post mission debriefing. Maybe something like, "I left someone on Virmire and then I ended up leaving you on the Normandy. Sometimes the guilt has been unbearable."

I couldn't see Ash saying this though-- not to say that she didn't care, of course--but Kaidan's had a way more difficult time, I think, with the death.
After I left Kaidan on Virmire, I was talking with Ashley about him, trying to calm her down. And she said something like, "He's with god now. He's gotta be happy."
Since Ash belives in an afterlife, she could use that justification with Shepard and have hope that she'd see him again.
We don't know Kaidan's belief system (or I haven't discovered it, anyway), he seems to have gotten emotionally lost like he did after BAaT.

Er... wait, so you suspect that the intermittent, would-be agitators such as cihimi are annoyed at the lack of same-sex romances in Mass Effect and are taking it out on their fellow Kaidan fen? (Man, I knew the lack of homosexual options in ME was frustrating, but I had no idea.)
And... now I want to make a female-impersonator Shep. Strange how the mind works...
Anyway! Might I interest you in some unsanctioned-by-BioWare Kaidan kisses as drawn by someone with more artistic talent than I? It isn't a fix by any means, I know, but...

Wait, let me start over. I totally could have responded to the first quote with something, but I just wanted to repeat this picture.
Jock, you left out having to hack the game so that you can get Kaidan nookie and have to put up with being called 'ma'am' instead of 'sir.' Really annoying, but worth it in the end.

That is a lovely idea. It doesn't have to be a full-blown conversation about Virmire but a few words here and there would be really nice.

So anyhow, yeah, a scene with them mentioning the loss would be good. Esp, as so much has been lost - time, trust, friends, a kind of innocence.
^ huh, maybe that's what it is about ME2 that always gets me. there's like this strange loss of innocence there. not that ME1 was all sunshine and bunnies, but it felt purer somehow. like even with a sad backstory, there's this sense that you've got a security net with the Alliance. Virmire is the first real sucker-punch of horrible. then comes Cerberus and you're free falling. man, i love the whole ME saga.

@ sagequeen--I understand what you mean about Kaidan. I think there's only so much weight and sadness a person can carry before it starts to break them. Ashley has her family and faith, so she can talk about that guilt, and talk about it with others--unloading, for lack of a better word. From earlier speculation (and fanfiction), Kaidan might not have been close with his family after BAaT. And Chakwas said he kept to himself. I don't know if he has other biotic friends to talk with, and I don't even know if he's managed to form long-standing friendships outside of Alliance personnel. But that's a lot of grief in a short period of time. Especially in a romance, because he fell for Shepard hard.

I love the hug on Horizon, it gives me a fuzzy "awwwww" feeling inside.
EDIT: rewatching Horizon on Youtube. Yeah, Kaidan took her death hard. His voice sounds so hurt and raw when he's introducing Delan to Shepard, even before he gets mad.

I've been listening to Ascention (sp? lol). And it talks about biotics--so from that stand point its really interesting--getting a feel for what biotics (and hence Kaidan) went through. It talked about how during the BAaT years Conatix spread deliberate misinformation and fear so that these kids would be given up to them.Brodyaha wrote...

I can't imagine that this wouldn't have had long-term ramifications for Kaidan and his family (as JaerWolfe's story shows as well). From the couple of tiny tidbits we get from him (like the sweater comment) he may keep in touch with his mother. But I don't think the family connections is strong for him.
Ashley has her faith and her family as coping mechanisms/support.
As far as we can tell, its Kaidan's belief in duty and in the Alliance that keeps him going. I can't help but think that what he saw in ME1 and between 1&2 with how much the politics twisted things around shook that for him. and the loss of femShep--a relationship that lead to some shifting in his beliefs in the first place.
I think his foundations for his life are shifting. He doesn't have anything that's solid to hold onto. The closest thing is his work--which, as I pointed out before, isn't as solid for him as it used to be. Especially after he learned how Anderson and the Alliance knew about Shepard and didn't tell him and how this secret mission he was on was leaked to Cerberus.
Huh. Even more now, I can't blame the poor guy for over reacting on Horizon. I think he's just trying desperately to grab a hold of and hold onto something solid in his life. But everything is a moving target.

(Runs in) Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. Kaidan's probably my fave character in ME. Love biotics, just don't play as them. Love my soldier class too much. Tentatively excited for the movie, but I'm also worried that they'll screw it up. I'm impatiently waiting for the third game and hoping that Kaidan will be involved more than the second one. Hi, DragonRose! You really don't have to leave... Have a biotic Kaidan!

On the sidebar, go to Profile > Forum Settings, and in the text box, type in the BBcode for the image you want to set as your sig. For example, my Ashley, Kaidan and Liara sigbar would be (take out the spaces):

Huh. I think I can agree with everything you said.
*ahem* I mean... welcome to the thread, may I offer you a chair? :innocent:

Spontanious wonder: I wonder if anyone who met Kaidan on Horizon and hadn't played ME1 said, "Man, I have to know that guy better..." Because it seems like someone must have, all things considered.

I did, actually.
I was intrigued by his character. His reluctance to leave Shepard's side in the intro when she orders him to go and his reaction to her on Horizon, to Cerberus (who didn't seem so bad in ME2).
Not to mention the little smile he gave her before he held out his hand pretty much sealed the deal. So, I went bought ME1 - and was I glad I did!

I have an Xbox (and iMac and no MS PC powerful enough to play ME1 or 2 on) so hacking Xbox is out. I just end playing as a female impersonator (and NOT IRL!), it is NOT my thing! PLUS FemShep VA is NOT convincing as a BATTLE HARDENED MARINE, she is too soft and reads words on a piece of paper ok, she has NO command presence ala MaleShep or Grunt. The VA is a good person just the wrong pick by casting for FenShep role, IMHO.Daewan wrote...

Let's not get into the FemShep vs. MaleShep debate, it's torn apart many happy homes on the BSN. Everyone has a preference, and that's fine.
I personally prefer to play female characters, though, whenever possible, and exclusively, and my favorite female Bioware romanceable characters (Bastila, Morrigan and Miranda) were never available for same sex romance, so I know how you feel, Jock. And even though I am a PC player and do use mods extensively in most games, I usually don't touch same sex romance mods, since I've never encountered one where the NPC doesn't eventually call you by the wrong sex, or in the case of ME, magically change your gender in the cutscene. I'd much rather have same sex romances that are "on purpose", made by the devs, and with the characters I like the most.
I'm really resigned to finding whatever female I'm attracted to in video games be off limits at this point. As soon as I saw Morrigan's introduction trailer before DA:O came out, I knew I was doomed. =P

Yay! I think it's a bit childish for players to go "Wah! You yelled at my Shepard for no reason and therefore I MUST hate you, you mean character I don't even know!". Sadly, this is what seemingly happened most of the time.
Why not find out just why Kaidan and Ashley acted the way they did. They had, after all, good reasons.

This is the problem I am finding. The people I know all say something similar, like the very fact that they are being questioned is an affront to their being. I think staying loyal to the ME1 interests is the MATURE thing to do.Chignon wrote...
