YAY!  Someone who didn't get scared off by Horizon!

Yay! I think it's a bit childish for players  to go "Wah! You yelled at my Shepard for no reason and therefore I MUST hate you, you mean character I don't even know!".  Sadly, this is what seemingly happened most of the time.

This is the problem I am finding.  The people I know all say something similar, like the very fact that they are being questioned is an affront to their being.  I think staying loyal to the ME1 interests is the MATURE thing to do.

Now wait a minute.  There are some instances where it's also perfectly mature to move on.  Don't start making assumptions.  I love Kaidan, and I love the way the romance plays out, but don't start lumping all Shepards together.  However, pouting and throwing a tantrum isn't one the mature way to deal, no.

Welcome, Dragon Rose!
You know, I wonder what Kaidan would think about all of us women (and some men) oogling him like we do if he knew.  I wonder just how deep he'd blush.

You're absolutely right, cgrimm.
Some players tend to forget that Shepard is only human, she makes mistakes and her decisions can be questioned just like everybody else's. Not that ME2 helped with that particular aspect, what, with almost everyone worshipping the ground Shepard walks on.
And after I played ME1, I felt that Kaidan had every right to act the way he did on Horizon, even if some things were probably said more in anger than anything else. I mean, I, too, was horrified that Shepard had been railroaded into working with Cerberus. I understood why he was angry. For all he knew Shepard could've been a spy for Cerberus all along, using her 'death' to cut ties with the Alliance - and him in the process.

Sorry for the rambling. I guess what I mean to say is, that buying ME1 really paid off for me and I'd love to see more people giving Ash and Kaidan a chance to show what great characters they are. They don't deserve to be judged by a scene like Horizon.

I see what you are saying.  I guess it's just the way I see it.  Not every person (or shep) is the same.  But my friends are mostly in the "He/She dares question my authority?!" category.  Just my experience there.

I know.  Kaidan's just such a deep character.  He's just not as obvious as other characters that are "fan favorites" like Wrex.  Kaidan's a very subtle character.  He has to be drawn out a bit.  Playing (painfully) as mShep is teaching yet new things about Kaidan that I didn't know before.

I think ME2 does give you a good feeling for Shepard's desperation, though.  I know I ran to the Citadel to try to get help from the Alliance or Council and found that I was indeed railroaded into working with Cerberus if I wanted to defeat the Collector threat.  Its frustrating.  But I think its done well.  You/Shepard has to resign herself to making the best of a bad situation.

It's just too bad that there isn't enough time/opportunity to make this clear to Kaidan on Horizon.  Shepard is made of stone in the episode.  And you can't go after him.  Granted, Kaidan likely needed some time to cool of in his "man cave" for a bit to calm down.  But it would have been nice to have the option of asking him to meet her after his mission report to talk about what was really going on.  I had Garrus and Kasumi with me.  So no Jacob or Miranda looking over my shoulder.
I mean, Kaidan's angry, but he's certainly not an unreasonable man.  If we could just have talked to him for a short bit...

After a while of following this thread, I think I have narrowed the entire thing down to one word. That word is HORIZON. Every single person here has based their entire conception of Mass Effect off that.

Well, Kaidan and Ash fans don't have much to go on in ME2. If you take Horizon away, what's left? A barely one page message.

Which is really kind of a cop-out.  Why would Bioware remove two very important characters?  I must consider this...

And the intro!

I liked the intro.  ^_^

Even though I never get to bump heads with Kaidan because I prefer the alternate line.  <_<

I suspect because Kaidan and Ash are the down-to-earth, normal people and that doesn't fly in a game full of superhero types.  :crying:

Lame.  In ME3 there should be some huge guy who has no powers just to counteract all the Jacob/Miranda

Maybe they'll both get a skintight suit complete with cape and/or a generous neckline. Then they'd fit right in.  Posted Image

Can you report someone for a nasty PM?

I should stop poking the trolls, those pro cerberus types sure are immature.

Also I dont think the Mass Effect writers are any good, ME2 seems like a bunch of fanfic failures wrote it.

I'd just block the person if you don't want them harassing you.

Well, if you are talking ME2, you kinda have to.  This is a Kaidan thread.  And in order not to get the thread shut down, you have to stay on topic.  So for ME2 you're kinda left with....Horizon.

As for the rest of the game, I like the gameplay better than ME1.  The cover system is heads and tails better.  I think a lot of the non-romance friendships more shallow.  If you don't romance a character, then you're cut off from a lot of their conversation.  And I won't romance anyone else.  Kaidan's stats according to Evil Chris are already frakked.  I'm not going to further ruin them.

Kaidan?  In skin-tight black leather armor?  (But no cape--can't cover up that lovely behind)
*gulp*
Yes please.

Ya ever notice how that cup is held on by just two elastic pieces with the quick-release claps?  Posted Image

Your first line in ME2 - paragon line gets the cute little "faceplate smack together" thing, whereas the renegade line does not.

Yes.  Yet the female armor has merely a chestplate thing.  I can't decide whether that's fair or not.

^ enjoying this line of "supportive armor" conversation.

but with ME2 writing: i'm going to have to disagree. it is good - it's just not consistent. IMO, that is the problem.

take the al Jilani interview - brilliant. i loved the garrus and tali missions. omg, krogan genophage stuff - so hard to choose. so many awesome dilemmas. i'm still pondering the geth, though for now i went with re-writing. i may go and retcon that for kyrie.

i guess what i'm saying is that the writing was still superb BUT it felt like with so many paths, some ended abruptly. horizon felt like a very rocky road. i want to think it's leading somewhere, but it was like a romance super highway turned into a goat trail.

so yeah, i'm going to have to stand up and defend the writing because i don't think one can say if it was overall good or bad until the final chapter is written. but for now, it certainly appears inconsistent because some threads got so frayed and others got strengthened and it was all very inconsistent. again, i think the final test is how it all weaves together in the end.

i guess in a week we'll see some of the weaving - looking forward to liara DLC is a major way
