@ Sage - i was kinda like you and spoiled Horizon a bit for myself.

My boyfriend was ahead of me mission wise in ME2( due to the fact he would sit and play it while i was sleeping) and he had played Horizon while i was in bed so i when i woke up i was like ' oh what missions did you do' not being able to wait for myself and he said 'oh Horizon is interesting, love interest shows up and all that'. So of course i was like KAIDANNNNNNN!!! and played it straight away, then had a sad face for the rest of the day because he walked away :( Bad Kaidan, me being ever hopeful and probably a bit stupid had been fully expecting a massive fluffy reunion.

I remember my stomach do somersaults when TIM, oh so casually, said that Kaidan was on Horizon.

Edit for top of the page Kaidan

My greatest fear was that, since this was 2 years later, Kaidan had moved on.  He could have been married with a child already.  Posted Image
I'm sooo glad that wasn't the case.

Personally, the thought of him having moved on never even crossed my mind. It was mostly "Must. See. Him."
And when that collector ship on Horizon took off I really thought he was on it. Almost dropped on my knees and yelled "NOOOOOOOOO" slow mo' style to the sky. Or well, in my case, the ceiling.

Pshh, he can't move on. I mean, IT'S SHEPARD!

Yup.  From the moment my Shepard woke up, she was looking for him, was worried about him--thinking she was dead for 2 years!  Horizon was a frantic play looking everywhere for him.  And yes.  Brilliant of BW to have the ruse that the ship took off with him on it.

And yes.  Its Shepard.  But 2 years is a long time.  And people in mourning something do strange things.

Sage
as for kaidan moving on - yeah, this is fantasy and this is femshep we're talking about. even liara hasn't moved on from a femshep that chose kaidan (poor liara)

I know, but still.  I was worried about it.  I only knew Kaidan only had a cameo going in.  So him having moved on might have been why.  I was worried.
@Ariaya:  And yes.  It would have broken my heart, too.  Horizon as it was, was bad enough in the heart-breaking category.  My Shepard wanted to slink down onto the floor in defeat like in ME1 in the locker scene.

It makes me happy too! Welcome to the best thread ever~

I had no idea Kaidan was only getting a cameo. My boyfriend started playing before me and he knew I was looking everywhere for Kaidan. He texted me that he ran into Ashley on Horizon and figured it would be Kaidan for me. I was like omg where is this Horizon?! I was sooo happy just to see him that it didn't even matter what was said. Then I got the email and was so happy that he said after it calmed down...maybe. So after the mission I still looked for him. Then it started to sink in and I was like uh, that's it? No more Kaidan? :( Then I found comfort in this thread! Yay~

Same here.  I knew that he wasn't a squadmate which I was disappointed about, but then Casey Hudson was like blah blah just because they're not part of your team doesn't make them not important.  And so I went on a binge weekend doing nothing but playing ME2 just to find Kaidan again.  And then shock! at Horizon thinking he was on the ship, and then bigger shock!!! seeing him walk away....  And then of course I kept visiting the Citadel hoping there would be another encounter with him.  And then I got uber happy from his e-mail - a fictional character's e-mail.  Nope, not obsessed at all.

I love that comic.

The thing that bothers me SO MUCH is that when you go to the Citadel after Horizon, you can ask about Kaidan being on Horizon, but you cannot ask where he is now.

*shakes fist*

First the email, then that! Why didn't you just stick a sign on Kaidan's back saying "Don't contact me until ME2 is over."

Don't you mean until ME3?  'Cause you can't find him in endgame either.  Posted Image

Okay, that comic made me laugh out loud. :) Horizon really did make me teary eyed. I felt awful, as I know a lot of people here did. The scene before the suicide mission when Shepard looks at the holo is torture, too. Her face says it all. Imagine knowing you are probably going to die unreconciled to the man you love. Shepard is a rock. I would have been blubbering like an idiot. I WAS blubbering like an idiot. Kaidan, Kaidan....what you do to us!

sagequeen, that bothers me too about not being able to ask about Kaidan after Horizon. It always hit me as very ironic that Shepard helps the whole crew sort out their "issues" but no one helps her. I think it makes that moment when she looks at the holo even more sad and poignant.

This.

And rather than take it in stride as "oh, she's just the hero. heroes don't need help" it totally made my heart break for her. she's got no one. seriously, in ME1, you feel like many people are there for her. in ME2, not so much.

hmm... am listening to leonard cohens "hallelujah" in the background and it's making me teary just thinking of that. lol. silly sage.

That comic never gets old. Though I personally have said on multiple occasions that I just didn't find Horizon believable enough to engage my emotions. It had a lot of potential, but fell flat to me.

Now, since I believe I see Night lurking around... we have a Ch. 11 I may or may not have been inspired a little by this scene from volume 3 of the KotOR comics when writing the ending:

Zayne: "I saw the future. It was all in the vision I had."

Carth: "Vision? You're a cook."

Zayne: "I'm a Jedi."

Carth: "You're a lunatic!"

*Zayne levitates Carth's blaster from where it was sitting on the ship's control panel into his hand as Carth watches, wide-eyed*

"Okay, you're a Jedi."

And that's it for my off-topicness tonight, I promise.

Yes!  This!
I"m sure the others are tired of hearing this.  But I'm most disappointed with Garrus.  He's like my Shepard's best friend in the game.  And he completely blows her off after Horizon!  Posted Image
Sure.  Shepard has to babysit and fix everything for all of the little babies on the ship.  But no one gives a rat's behind about what she might be going through--having been dead and brought back to life, having lost the love of her life, the Alliance and Citadel turning their backs on her, having to work for a company she despises, and having to shoulder the responsibility for this crazy mission completely and utterly alone.  No.  One.  Cares.  They are all too wrapped up in themselves.  THIS is why I don't really like the ME2 squadmates.

Kaidan and Ashley were there for Shepard in ME1.  They helped to shoulder a bit the burden for him/her.  And they asked NOTHING in return.  This is why I like those two characters above all of the other squadmates in the series.  Their selfless devotion to their CO and person whom they love.

I'm with you Jade, though I have my theories as to why Garrus is not there for Shep. Sidonis mostly. It is probably totally in my own head, but...yeah. Am trying to write it atm, but not getting anywhere with that.
Tali, I do love her, but I take her as a little...um...ditzy? Also, she just lost her dad. So yeah. Remember Kaidan and Ashley had dealt with their issues mostly, so they are in a place to help. Shep is on a ship of nut cases with Kelly as the counselor. My hubby tells me Kelly is not so bad, but I really have the hardest time liking her. He tells me I'm being a kindergamer about her and treating her as mean as guys treat kaidan, but i'm not buying it. i still don't trust her.
oooh! and by the way, did you ever notice that JUST before the crew gets taken, she leaves her post at the CIC? only time in the game. so weird. i wonder why she does that? hmmm...
it's all a PLOT!

I like Kelly alright, but I can see her tendency to like every male member of the crew getting on Kaidan's nerves a bit.

Garrus also is a little awkward around Shepard in ME2.  It might be an avoidance issue for him for an uncomfortable topic.  But still.  If you just witnessed your friend get sideswiped by the man she loves, you try to help regardless if you feel uncomfortable about it.

Tali isn't there.  So I can't blame her at that point.  And she's like a little sister.  Of all of the squadmates, I blame her the least.

Kelly--well, I'm sure she's the one that's spreading that STD around the ship that Mordin was talking about.  At least in her discussion of Horizon (as opposed to her discussions of the other LI's) she doesn't say anything about how attractive Kaidan is.  I'd definitely need a Renegade trigger option at that point.  I would need a new Yeoman.
And no.  Never noticed that she's not at her post at that point.  Huh.

sagequeen, I don't like Kelly either.  I dislike her enough to refuse to call her Kelly.  "Let's keep this professional, Ms. Chambers."  I just avoid her in general.  I don't think she's intrinsically evil, I just can't relate to her at all.
I wonder what Kaidan would think of Kelly.
Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."  Beautiful song.  Another piece of music I always think about during the holo scene is Dvorak's "Song to the Moon."  The words and the melody are just bursting with longing.  Part of the Kaidan/ Shepard soundtrack that lives in my head.  ;)

If you manage to sprint Joker out there fast enough you see someone with red hair being dragged into the elevator.   I felt like waving.  I don't have anything against her... she just reminds me of a sorority sister I avoided like the plague.  For all 3.5 years.

Anyway... Horizon... and the ME2 crew...   Honestly, I think it's just bad writing.  Jacob of all people asks femShep how she's doing and it's convo #2 of the romance.  He's the only one to do so.  It's more in character for Garrus or Thane... why JACOB?  You get too touchy feely with Jacob and he ends the romance and tells you to go talk to Garrus.  But he's allowed to ask Shep personal questions? (Which is why him asking seems out of character to me.)  Even then, it's still not specifically about Horizon or Kaidan.

Now... Garrus I can understand since his dialogues are a balancing act.  You can NOT recruit him in ME1, after all, and while you can't get the dialgue about Ilos and begin his romance in that case, it's still too many different conversations -- after all, if you didn't recruit him, he'd have no clue about Kaidan.  Tali's.... there's no excuse.  She's an alien, but she's still a chick.   While she's offering to share suits with femshep, why's she not asking about the last one FemShep shared suits with... to run with a metaphor.   Unless she was that wrapped up in the drive core that she was oblivious to EVERYTHING?

I guess I don't blame the characters for the lack of dialogue about certain things.  But then... I'm a writer.  If my characters don't say something they should, it's my fault.  And on Horizon, I take the view that Shep's lame-ass dialogue was to protect Kaidan.  But I also take the view that it took two people to screw up there.  It wasn't just Shep's fault and it wasn't just Kaidan's.

Sia: I guess I won't get Jacob to ask me how I'm doing because there's now way in hell I'm romancing the guy.
After the romance stats no longer matter for Me3, I'll play Garrus's romance, Thanes and perhaps Tali's. But not Jacob. Not ever. Ugh.

Hmmm...I think we need another biotic god Kaidan:
