yes, i agree. as writer, i do not blame the characters at first, unless it seems the writer was trying to make them unlikable. kelly just...i dunno. i think it was the garrus/thane sexy comments that threw me. i was like...that's WAY unprofessional there honey. my hubby never got those convos. and he didn't play me1, so he got an earful of how cerberus is evil when he commented that the alliance was dumb. poor guy.

anyhow, yeah, i totally understand that the permutations of squaddie talk get outrageous when recruitment and loyalty can happen in any order. ME1 had only 6 squaddies and 3 were romanceable. Me2 doubled that. i get it, i do understand the math there. that doesn't mean i like that they replaced squaddie banter with talks about the views around the galaxy. no thane, i don't care about the sunset on illium. but if you or garrus were wanting to talk to me about kaidan, i *might* listen.

I talk to Kelly just to get her to feed my fish because I love my fishies but heaven forbid I forget to feed them myself just one time. So yea, I use her for that and then I'm done with her. I'd prefer an automatic feeder system instead or a reminder from EDI. If she hits on Kaidan when he's back on the ship though she is going straight out the trash compactor.

i saw a fanfic where kaidan rebounded with kelly when shep left him.

yeah. i like to think that kaidan has higher standards than that.

Is it a bad thing if I have seperate save files for the view on the Citadel "There's no reason why they wouldn't like you" and the pre-grounding, almost kiss, Udina punch, and Ilos scenes?

i don't think it's bad until you put a post-it note inside of the DVDrom box with the #s of the romance-related saves written on it in case you forget which saves were which.
not...that anyone here would do that...

As for Kelly, never really trusted her.
Never really trusted ANYONE on that Cerberus ship. My Femshep soloed the whole ME2, occasionnally talking to the crew, but not so much. Kaidan Frame staring FTW!

I'm pretty sure my own list of saves and what they do will trump even your cheating ways, sage.

(Let's just say there are many of them, and they were all done for science.)

I don't know who decided she should use snarky-bedroom-tones for every conversation with Jacob after Freedom's Progress. Maybe they were mildly concussed. Still, I'd be surprised if they went that route with the Kaidan LI continuation.

The way I roleplay my Shepards is that they don't have to like you, but they've got your back if you're on Shepard's crew. Kind of stealing from Malcolm Reynolds for Firefly there. So yeah, might not trust Kelly, but she's on the crew. Unless she outright betrays anyone on the ship, she's safe. And no, giving someone scale itch will not count as a betrayal.

Oddly enough, Kelly is the only person I don't trust on the ship, even though everyone else is Cerberus as well. Because if you listen to the crew, they all have a personal stake in the colony abductions. Or they have a particular loyalty to Shepard. My distrust of Kelly tends to wane after saving her from liquification. She seems genuinely grateful that she is not dead.

Hrm. Two posts without Kaidan. Well, I doubt he'd ever trust Kelly, and she might actually be a person he'd have trouble hiding his distrust as well. Ignoring the fact that she's Cerberus, she's also thinks of herself as a psychologist. I can't imagine Kaidan with his biotic history would have much patience for any type of shrink.

Absolutely not.  ALL of my femShep saves are before Kaidan-related dialogue!
Even most of my male-Shep ones are before Kaidan dialogue.

But I do have my ME and KOTOR stuff on a single hard drive--the 20g one that came with the machine.  We bought another hard drive that I'll put anything else on (oh, well, except Republic Commando--but that's a Sbarge game again  ).

On a side note:  in playing my MShep yesterday 2 things happened.  (1) I got him to dance with Ash and Liara--he dances just as dorky as Kaidan.  LOL and (2) he was in dialogue with Kaidan and my hubby was like "Hey, they look like they could be brothers!"  *me: blush*  "Ummm...yeah.  That was kinda intentional."  *hubby rolls his eyes*

I've always thought that only being able to talk with Kelly of all people about Horizon (except for one comment from Joker) was a bit of a douche move on Bioware's side. I don't trust her. At all.

It's almost like Aria's "You should find yourself a nice young man to keep yourself warm in the meantime." Erm, no, thanks but  great way to twist the knife.

I tend to give Kelly the benefit of the doubt, even though she does seem a bit TOO loving and trusting and ready to dance for Shepard at the slightest provocation.  I did like her a bit more after the dinner, but that's because I decided that it was strictly platonic, and they were just friends.  Even if she doesn't fully trust Kelly, it was nice having that "normal" evening of chatting.

Kelly especially gets a tough time in fan fiction, which does bother me.  She is a Cerberus lackey, and probably would betray you if TIM said the word (well, before the Collectors took her, maybe afterwards she'd be too grateful to do that), but most of the fan fiction and forum jokes are about her being "loose", which is pretty unfair, because she's a woman.  If Joker weren't disabled, and chatted about hooking up with tons of babes, players wouldn't be making the same kind of jokes that they make about Kelly.  And she's not even bragging about conquests, she's just open to any kind of relationship, and doesn't mind talking about it.

But yeah, when it comes to Kaidan, she can look but she better not touch.  <_<

I agree with you, TeenZombie. I also don't like to see this kind of treatment of a character in fan fiction, even if I don't like him/her.
I prefer stories that make me reconsider the way I thought about a character. I came to - somewhat - respect Miranda that way. At first, I was a bit put off with the whole "I am perfect."-thing.

Instead, Kelly came off as meddlesome and especially naive. She asks that question of every Shepard as well; I don't know if this is an 'oops' and she was meant to ask that only to romances, but as-is, it's extremely meddlesome. It's like she's fishing to find out if Shep ever had feelings for the VS that would complicate a Cerberus conversion.

Yeah, I know... how crazy of me!  I may be able to justify my Sheps sticking it out till the end... but I can't justify saving the base or staying with them further, no matter what.  They are NOT the good guys and Kaidan was right to distance himself from them.  It just sucks he had to do distance himself from Shepard in the process.
