@Night: The statistic read "80% of the players played as Male Shepard". That doesn't mean that 80% of the completed playthroughs were of Male Shepard. It means that 80% of the players have played at least one game as Male Shepard. It does not include the ratio of players who also played as female Shepard. These statistics are not the complete set that are being reviewed, and we have no idea the full scope of data that is being reviewed.

Edit: And without being able to view the full source of the statistics, we have no way of knowing if that even means that 80% of the players have completed a game as Male Shepard. It may be as simple as 80% of the players have created a game with a Male Shepard.

A pessimist is what an optimist calls a realist. Ash said that and I agree with her. I'm not negative; I'm basing my opinion on what I think is the most likely outcome.

I never really thought of you as negative really.. so realist is more acurate really!!!

I am a firm believer that Stats can be manipulated.. now that said the fact that this was one of the statictics that they provided for the interview is what I find telling ... not the actual number Posted Image

EEEeeee!  <3

As for ME3... pretty much the only reason I would bother to play ME3 at this point would be for Kaidan and Wrex.  And since I'll be buying ME3 used, I doubt BioWare cares what I think anyway.  As far as I'm concerned, Mass Effect is a stand alone Sci-Fi RPG which I can love to bits because it is that awesome.  ^_^

Well, there are lies, damn lies, and...yeah, you know what I mean.Still, this does seem to counteract the worry that the Paramour achievement would be used to figure out "cheating" right? I mean, heck, if they can track how much dialog you skip, surely they can figure out "cheating." One would hope, anyhow.

cause i mean, really, who could cheat on a guy like...

<Raises hand>

I got Calibrated sadly.

However there are two other Shepards who stayed loyal.

So no biggie.

Flees!

They're not using the Paramour achievement for who cheated and who didn't; they have stats of everyone's choices down to how many times they've skipped through dialog. Almost everything you do in ME2 is tracked. That's what Casey said.

I think what some of us are getting at (at least in my case), is that every time I play a Shepard that has not romanced Kaidan, it adds to the statistics that there are Shepards that did not romance him. That's why I've only imported and played femSheps that have romanced Kaidan; I want to add to his statistics and to nobody elses'. I think that's how some others feel as well.

All the femSheps I've imported have romanced Kaidan but then I don't have one that didn't, lol. I tried to get through an ME1 playthrough as a single Shep on many occasions but I just couldn't resist him. I will admit to cheating sort of, but as soon as I went back to the cabin and saw Kaidan's pic face down I got depressed and deleted the whole playthrough, lmao

And my muse finally came off the next installment of Everything's Not Fine.

Also, in case you missed it earlier, The Shepard Project was also updated today.

The only Shep I'm going to have that doesn't romance and stay true to Kaidan is may mShep--and he's only going to have one playthrough.  I have two playthroughs of Kimbri in ME2 and will have one of Kara (stopped so that I could get mShep done to do the LotSB).  I will have at least one more femShep that's faithful--a Renegade Vanguard.
I still want to have a "cheating" Shepard--but I won't do that until ME3 is pretty much in the can.

Apparently other people are upset about the interview with Casey judging by Norman's twitter:

@ehlien 80% of players played a male Shepard what? Ever, without playing a FemShep? At some point? On their first playthrough?

Crimsonrhodeila:
@
truffle Apologies for sounding snippy if I do, I'm just fed up with the "canon Shepard is a dude hurr durr" attitude some male fans have.

Norman:
@crimsonrhodelia I believe the stats are for overall playthroughs. Statistically manshep is much more popular than femshep.

Not surprised. His attitude was that of using those stats to make the game more like what the majority wants.

Hudson was the same guy who said that everyone loved planet scanning. Although some of what he says scares me, it's best to take it with a grain of salt, IMO.

He's still representational of the company. Quite frankly, I haven't been given any reason to trust BW after ME2.

The guy was trained as like an aerospace engineer or something.  Not in the trade.  I"m sure he did think planet scanning was a cool idea.  *rolls eyes*

I"m just glad to see that Norman/a dev is getting some flack over this.  I know I've tweeted her twice now about it--on different comments made.

But I guess we should bring this back to Kaidan.
Its just not the same playing mShep as Kaidan's best friend.  I'd rather be his LI.  Although I suspect Horizon won't be nearly as truamatic.

And a picture for Casey Hudson

Kaidan is my Sheploo's buddy... and not his LI. And I'm happy with it (and my blue rose of Illium).

I know that Hudson has let us down so far with Kaidan... but I'll think he'll eventually come around. I mean, he can't ignore our complaints for a DLC forever. Also, add this Forever Faithful banner to your sig to show your support for Mass Effect 1 love interests.

Hehe, I love Indigo's new banner, I just need to figure out a way to fit other stuff in my sig along with it.

As for Casey Hudson's remarks, I have been pretty disgusted by the attitude that statistics should dictate future decisions about the games Bioware makes.  Of course they want to make money, but how can they continue to make a quality product if they're so obsessed with pandering to the lowest common denominator?  Why have great restaurants if McDonalds is most popular, right?  That mindset is just awful, and they should be ashamed to admit it to the public.

How can videogames be taken seriously if they never push the envelope or take chances on ideas that might not seem popular?

And to keep this on topic, let's close our eyes and think of happier times:

I've said it once and I'll say it again... real men say "hello" boldy! Also... I love your Morrigan avatar on the 360 (it is awesome).

@Lady Assassin

Sorry... but I have to keep my Snu Snu one.  Morinth is in more danger of not being in ME3 than any other character I would immagine.

It'll be a Tali and Garrus friendship/romance sim with a cameo from the reapers. :P

This current playthrough is the only one I've done where Kaidan died on Virmire instead of Ash. And I didn't expect it, but I found myself feeling quite bad about it and missing him afterwards. :(

I always liked Kaidan, but didn't expect to miss him like that. (just being honest so please don't hit!!)

Plus, I was quite pleased with the great job he did on my team on Noveria.

well, this is a group project, though. i mean, if hudson is the guy in charge, he's going to need stats, numbers, etc. while i agree, that can be a little freaky for those of us who love the dialog/rpg parts of it, he's not the guy writing the dialog.
eh, i dunno, perhaps i'm being too optimistic. i take it that BW is well aware of the expectations they've built and they listen to their fans. that's really all i can reasonably ask.
so Liara tomorrow, huh? i am looking forward to it - more biotic powers, new stuff, and a hint of things to come? i'm all for it. :D
night all - oh, and have fun with liara, nick
