Well, maybe the reason I don't like him all that much is because I'm a guy, and well, guys like me tend to gravitate towards LIs like Liara and Tali and "interesting/humourous/cool" characters like Mordin, Joker, and Garrus.

I respect your opinions, ladies. I can see why you guys like Kaidan. But, for me, video characters really need to have that "spike" to them if I am to like them in any way whatsoever.

And you guys didn't know a survey was on? A thread concerning the survey has been floating around for the last three days now...

You left out Morinth... your results are not accurate.

I left her out for obvious reasons. She was a sort of filler character that no one cared much for. All previous surveys put her on the bottom of the heap across the board. Hence, I doubt the community is interested in any numbers concerning her.

I like her just fine.  So basically only what you like counts.  Your poll is biased.

I personally don't like Jacob either. Yet I included him. Morinth was a filler character; admit it. Though she was well-written for one.

But it's not terribly biased.

I'm not going to admit it. She was a squadmate like any other. In the removed audio files she had a bigger role but they had to cut that stuff out. All the squadmates knew that she was Morinth rather than Samara in the removed audio files. I think they should remove Tali because she was 17 in the first game and all the perverts wanted her to be a LI in the second game so they aged her 7 years in a matter of 2.

Jade is right. I've been burned by too many guys that were 'badasses' and quite frankly, that kind of attitude gets old fast. It permeates our culture as well. Men have to be as emotionless and edgy as possible. They have to mouth off and break all the rules because that's what's cool. And I don't understand it. It's not attractive nor is it flattering to be a man-child.

Kaidan is the exact opposite of that. He's a perfect example of what I find attractive character-wise (okay and appearance wise... I have a raging fetish for Mediterranean/Hispanic looking men XD)

Well, you just contradicted yourself slightly there... Let's take these discussions to the main thread, shall we?

Anyways, sorry to hijack your thread, Kaidan fans.

Unfortunate, yeah. It's been burned into our brains. But then again, look at Mordin. He's edgy, sure, but he too demonstrates his weaknesses at times - primarily concerning the morality of his actions. And the scene where he rambles on about how he sought comfort in religion, but then suffered a crisis of faith was particularly moving, too.

But, he didn't cry, so that's why I found it touching... from a male perspective.

Huh.  I'd qualify Mordin as badass, but not edgy.  And... Kaidan never cried, either?

Anyhow.  I'd stay and discuss, but I need sleep, so I leave you with:

Kaidan is Kaidan and he like us because he is who he is, so why don't just we leave it that way?

Nothing that you say XX55XX is gonna change our minds, feelings and all that stuff. :P

I don't think Mordin is edgy in the way that I'm referring to. I like the way he thinks things through; that separates him from the characters that don't look before they leap. Kaidan's similar in that regard. He's thought through what he believes and has fought with his inner demons to come to the top. Both of them are willing to talk about how they feel.

In contrast, you have Jacob who refuses to talk about his emotions at all when you ask him about them. He will get pissy if you try to get him to open up. That was insulting to me... here I am trying to care and he's a jerk about it. Kaidan's mild mannered and willing to talk and listen. I really appreciated that in him.

So, Mordin and Kaidan both talk about their feelings and their struggles. I think the line that divides them is simple: one is an alien and the other is a human LI.

Also Kaidan has never lost part of his head and still managed to take a Krogan down with only a pitchfork....

He is still cool but Mordin is now Dr Awsome in my books.

Maybe he was freaked out at how sultry FemShep was when talking to him.

He's nice after the loyalty mission.  But he was colder than Miranda originally was when I tried talking to him, so I eventually gave up.

But, I don't want to be character-bashing, it's probably bad karma.

I'm actually thinking of retconning my renegade Shep who romanced Garrus in ME2....I'm actually feeling really bad about romancing him and cheating on Kaidan (call me crazy).  Or maybe I'll keep two separate files.  I don't want BioWare using those stats against any ME3 character appearances/major decisions.

If you cheated then it's too late. They've already counted that statistic.

Bioware is smart enough to see that Ash and Kaidan have lots of fans and want to see them back.

I think Bioware expects people to use Horizon to move on, Ash and Kaidan's letters pretty much indicate that they think you will move on and they screwed up.

Hopefully people who waited are in for something nice, and Bioware rewards people who wait YEARS to see it end.

That and the "eighty percent of people play MaleShep" thing ****** me off so bad.  Why not put out the REAL stat showing how many people actually have at least one FemShep game, Bioware???  I guarantee it's more than twenty percent.  And of course most ME1 LI fans will have the Paramour achievement on at least one of their playthroughs, but somehow that makes Kaidan the least loved character, because the minority FemShep players who romanced him are likely to have at least one playthrough with another romance option.  So because I don't want to be counted in that statistic, but I DO want to be counted as an exclusively FemShep player, I can't have any other romances in ME2 on any characters.

Statistics should NOT dictate the way the story plays out, but I no longer trust Bioware to simply write the best story they can, regardless of what the majority is doing when they play.

Well then, I guess I just need to make more import FemSheps that all romance Kaidan and stay faithful. Ones that aren't soldiers. To balance out the statistics.  Assuming they still count.  This means I'll probably have to give up my Tali MShep playthrough.  I'll keep my faithful Ash though, if I ever get around to him (I'll need to start over again on him too, cause he's a soldier...maybe he'll be an engineer).
This'll be a fun couple of months.

I hope they will do something about Kaidan/Ash..

Because, I was expecting to continue the romance with kaidan on ME2, but that didn't happen. I felt really bad when I saw the scene on Horizon for the first time, I was expecting more....but BW ruined all.

Consider how unhappy the Liara fans were pre-LotSB, compared with how elated they are now.  We could have a wonderful story arc with Kaidan / Ashley all planned out for us - who knows?

however, did you see the facebook post for ME2 from today? Offical ME2 post was quoting an article about how FemShep is a phenomenon and awesome, etc. Maybe I'm reading into it, but I took that and Ms. Norman's recent tweets as subtle nods to the fact that stats are just that - stats. If Bw is going around quoting a gaming article lauding them for being forward thinking and making one of the coolest, most empowered female heroes in years, then I highly doubt they're going to forget about FemShep. They're going to go where the fans are, sure, but they clearly take pride in the story for it's own sake.

Strangely, I guess I felt that way about the "Jacob is perfect." haiku in LotSB. I took it as a "ppffft. whatever. the fans don't like Jacob, but WE do and so does Kasumi, so there." so i think that BW has an investment in their characters as well. i feel like the ash/kaidan advocates are in hiding, so i am hoping the growing support for them will mobilize those folks into action - or create new ash/kaidan fans among the devs.

And what's awesome about the DLC is that it still leaves an open pathway for her to have an epic role in ME3.

That's what I want to see for Kaidan and Ash.

I loved how they made fun of Jacob in that regard, how they add, "Indifferent eyes stare into mine," before ending with, "Jacob is perfect."  And the omni-gel mentions, and other ME mentions as well, such as the Mako during the chase.....yeah, LotSB was fabulous.  And it felt like BW really took fan considerations into account.

Maybe they'll add dossiers for Ashley and Kaidan that make fun of some of the negative opinions some ME fans have as well.
