I never considered Ashley particularly obvious as a LI. At least not more so than Kaidan or Liara. And she is still my beyotch. :o

Sorry, guys, I still can't top-of-page... >_<

But what does that have to do with character popularity? Why is it
important? What light does it shed? Did you start out trying to
unravel the player-sex dynamic to the enjoyment of the characters'
writing, or did you only get interested when Kaidan exceeded your
expectations?  If not, why does it seem you are predominantly hanging
out in our thread?  Would you care to tell me about your mother...?

Well... To be quite honest with you, I used the female/male dichotomy because that was the only way I could split the population and account for certain discrepancies. I might add sexual orientation in a later variation of this survey, but it's difficult to really think of any other factors that may be in play here other than the two which I have mentioned.

In the last survey, which took place six months ago, Kaidan's average with females was nearly 1.9 points higher than Kaidan's average amongst males. That is a huge discrepancy, and I noticed it when I was plugging in the data into SPSS. I don't know the precise z-score for the probability of that occuring by chance, but no doubt, the chance of that occuring randomly would have been less than a single percentage point.

Age and whether they play a FemShep, a ManShep, or MultiShep seem to be the important ones that'd come to my mind.  Or at least worth checking out.  And... you said that Liara and Tali were more popular among guys...?

Off the top of my head, I would expect that male LI's would be generally more popular among FemShep players and female LI's would be more popular among ManShep players (never underestimate the allure of romance storylines, even among dudes).  I would also expect a non-romancable character to be equally popular between both sides (GenderedShepPlayers or Male/Female).  Women are generally viewed more critically in media, so female non-LI characters could get dragged down a bit.  And you're gonna get a lot of people voting down characters they don't like.  *thinks*  Man, I forgot how much I hate statistics.  XD

So how does any of you feel about getting somehow screwed over again in the Liara DLC?

Yeah, you should, FireEye. I'm certain that psychology itself entailed the study of statistics as well, right?

Thanks for the tips. I have a much better idea of how to create these dichotomies now...

I don't feel screwed over in any way. It was a Liara DLC, and we got Liara and then some.

Really? The VS romance isn't acknowlegded AFAIK. And Ashley/Kaidan didn't even get a dossier on the SB computer.

I'd say that's getting screwed over again.

So do many others, but there is at least a mention of the VS. If you want to be extremely optimistic, there are hints in LotSB that a secret agent is coming to work for Hackett. Could be interpreted as being the VS.

LotSB made me happy, and more hopeful now than ever that there will be a DLC for Kaidan and Ashley.

Yes... why didn't Ashley nor Kaidan get a dossier? Mysterious. There wasn't even an entry for them either!

Nope. It was worth it for the cab chase banter, was giggling manically hours afterwards. I'm suprised that we got a mention in it, but glad. I like most here, would love some VS DLC but I won't be majorly angry or disappointed if it doesn't happen providing they are then given decent time in ME3 (just give me an arc, even one or two scenes where we can restart the relationship, say 'I love you Kaidan' would suffice for me). If that doesn't happen, then I will feel screwed over because if a developer is going to put a character in their game, they should invest in that character as much as any other, regardless of supposed fan opinion. The fact that Kaidan is disliked as much as loved by us here just shows he is a well written, fleshed-out character that people can respond to differently. BioWare shouldn't let that go to waste. Same for Ash. Image IPB

Not necessarily. That just means the SB doesn't have info on Ash/Kaidan and wasn't following him/her. That may be a good thing. Time will tell if BW played that so that Ash/Kaidan have some super special secret mission they've been on or if it was simple oversight.

Actually, the fact that Ash/Kaidan was mentioned briefly and SO much mention went into other characters made me suspect that, in fact, something large is planned for them. The continued silence is no longer looking to me like ignoring, but deliberately playing the plans close to the chest.

But then, hi, I'm sage, the resident pollyanna of the KAST. :P

Liara does mention the VS when you're catching up with her on the Normandy, while more would have made me ridiculously happy, just remembering they exist was a good beginning.

I'm also happy about all the Alliance references in the Shadow Broker DLC, they made me think that more is coming down the line, and if there is an Alliance DLC, it makes sense to include Kaidan and Ashley.

I would have loved a dossier for them, or videos, and it would have been awesome if my Shepard could have said she was fighting for a chance to reunite with Kaidan, the way people with ME2 love interests could tell Liara they were fighting for them.  But -- I'll survive.  I won't have any complaints at all if Kaidan is a squadmate in ME3, and he gets a good role as both a friend and lover to Shepard.

@Sage: Yeah Hackett 'Request Denied' had me Woohping at the screen. I'm holding out on the ability to rejoin the Alliance in 3 *enter smug 'I told you I was the same person KaiKai' face and some 'Yeah I guess' smooching here. The fact that Hackett still must trust Shepard's instincts gives me hope.

In my head Shepard would be vocal about wanting to go back, but understanding the mistrust, so she innocently suggests that Kaidan should accompany her to review her allegiances; "I'll give you full access to my terminal, you can be present everytime I contact someone...I got nothing to hide."

Which I just find to be complete BS considering the fact that he got info regarding Hacket, the last 7 chicks TIM banged, and alot of other information. And you would think getting info on someone who have been part of Shepard's crew and have been given important task by Anderson/Alliance would be a high priority.

No, he just says they're "surprisingly well-classified." Which means, if he knows something, he ain't telling us.

You think, Sia? Why would he do that? He's relying on Shepard to be his muscle so why would he keep any info he has on Kaidan from us? Is he really just that much of a d*ckhead? >_<

Because he wants to keep complete control over Shepard and Kaidan would seriously screw that up? I'm of the opinion that if he even knew that Garrus was Archangel, we wouldn't have been sent after him, either.

TIM wants Shepard alone and separated from everyone she ever held dear, all the better to be made sympathetic to Cerberus.

Course, it didn't work with either of my Sheps.

TIM straight up lied to Shepard regarding Liara. So no, TIM feeding Shepard misinformation about the VS is entirely plausible.
