FireEye>> you know i never thought of it that way, I guess Liara's DLC would fall into the fair for both genders category... i think i was happier not knowing that ugh..
.. or on the other hand: every other romance got a piece of ME 2, either in the original game or dlc, it would seem unfair if Kaidan Ashley fans were the only ones left out... right? .. oh yes, i like this better.

Also agreeing that the 'night before we all die' thing being played out. Plus, no matter who your Shep is romancing the majority of players will be continuing an on going relationship. Its a whole new ballgame, like the difference between the first date and the 10th. They are past the getting to know you faze and into the nitty gritty... I hope.
I'm looking forward to a little Kaidan nittygritty... -_^

Top of the page, a little grrrr

He's impressing the colonists by levitating it.

I guess I would be worried, if they messed with the formula they know, that the romance bits could come long before the final battle, but then they ignore it for the rest of the game.  That would be equally annoying to me.  <_<

I would be almost as happy to have the 'reunited' scene at the beginning and then have them turn their focus back on their duty. BUT then it has to have the option to say cute romantic things throughout, just as a reminder that they are together. Akin to DA:O but not necessarily the 'kiss him' option. Not saying I wouldn't mind seeing that scene over and over and over... but during how I envision the ME3 Reaper war to be going down, it seems... un-characteristic for soldiers. Just little lines that you could only choose if you were in a relationship with that particular character. Hearkening back to the scene on the Citadel.

Kaidan: "Woah it's swelling!"

Shep: "Are you talking about this artifact or something for me, Lieutenant?"

You know I really wished they had of tweaked that scene to make his hand glow blue just before he froze, Ash reaching for her gun, Kaidan about to use biotics, then it would have seemed like they were paying more attention to the differences between Ashley and Kaidan.

Edit for Staff Commander. Shep better get a promotion or between the two it's going to get confusing.

yeah, or like when Garrus says impressive to Shepard etc, they have your LI complimenting you on your shooting during battle , but occasionally in a flirty way.

Kaidan making some discreet jokes about Shepard's butt?

What I wouldn't like to hear from him is "Just like the old times". Even Liara has it, and I don't feel like he would be someone to grin while reminiscing old combats, especially that he seemed to suffer during those two years.

Okay, yes, ME is set in the future. In their universe, sexuality probably doesn't bother ANYONE.
But the game was made in our time, in our universe. >_
I facepalmed too, when I found out that Jack, Thane, Ash, Kaidan and Tali were all supposed to have been bi, but in the end weren't. ¬_¬

I don't know if they were [i]supposed[/] to be bi. After all, only Shepard has recoded lines for same sex romances. The romance intersets themselves don't. Kaidan calls M!Shpeard ma'am in his romance, for instance - meaning that there are no lines from Sbarge on the disk that are gay, etc.

What's funny too is that for ManShep, he turns into a girl in the romance scene. In the scene between Ash and FemShep nothing changes.

So, I had this theory last week, but haven't got around posting it here yet...I don't know if you've thought of this before, but anyways - here we go...

On Horizon the VS has been stunned, just like the other colonists, but then out of nowhere shows up like nothing happened. Remembering Vigil saying that the Reapers sometimes use sleeper agents...well, the VS could now be one. However, I don't know how much time the Horizon intro and the Normandy arriving is apart, so it may've been too fast to make this theory work.

Another thing I could believe is, the Collectors implanted some kind of device in the VS, that records and transmits audio signals to a network which again transmits to the Reapers, so they know what's going on. The VS is important enough for that, because of the connection with Shepard, Anderson, Udina, the Alliance, etc.

Apart from the fact, that you (probably) wouldn't want this to be true.....could this be possible? I'm curious to what you think :-)

I'd say anything is possible with the snap of a finger, but I doubt the sleeper agent part. Imo I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't anymore sleeper agents for the Reapers left currently. The device part I can believe.

Eh, I'm not sure if this is the route BW is going. It would really put the VS in direct opposition with you at some point. At least the sleeper agent part. The recording device bit is an interesting thought.

But the people appear to have consciousness during the stasis from the Collector swarms, so chances are the VS might know if they had been implanted.

Honestly. I think that either the genetic upgrades Alliance soldiers get burned through the stasis effect quicker (to explain how both Kaidan and Ashley shrug it off) or that when the Collectors diverted their attention to Shepard at the Gardian Defense Tower that the stasis effect lifted. (Or more likely a combination of both). Once free from the stasis, I think the VS would have made a bee line for the tower, because that's where (a) the enemy was converging for some reason and (B) the defense tower was active.

Sagequeen had a fairly detailed, well thought out idea for the VS on Horizon breaking free and coming to Shep in her current fanfic.

They could have used a tranquilliser or something to be able to work on the VS without him/her finding out. Shepard wouldn't know because that was never part of the conversation. Maybe it was in the report to the Alliance....but there is no way of knowing for sure. This is obviously all just speculation :)

The genetic upgrades theory is plausible, too. We'll see...hopefully soon ;)

@ fort: Tentatively? :D
yeah, I'm with you. the fan request for Kaidan/Ash DLC has been a lot more than I suspected it would be. and I keep thinking it must be in the works already, actually.

@ jade: i agree. "night before endgame" gets old. ME1, it worked, it really did. not only were you heading into possible death, but you JUST had found out it was necessary to do so alone (the council and alliance backed out on you) and you stole the ship to do so. for my sheps, i had always done virmire last. so shep and kaidan are both reeling from the fact that ash was lost and what that means about their feelings for each other (that kaidan would gladly die to save shep and that shep could not leave him - whatever the reason). so him visiting her make so much sense.

ME2's timing was less...somethin'. you knew the whole TIME you were going to go into the relay, knew it was going to come down to a suicide mission. and then you just activated a geth (or I had) and lost the crew.  so it's just weird that "oh, hey, the crew is facing certain death - let's ****" post-game snuggling make sense, but in ME2, it really felt like it was thrown in there because it fit the game timing, not the story timing. in ME1 (like Jade Empire) it fit the "Before the battle" timing so much better.

I also save Virmire for last.  It just seems to fit the story better.

You're not alone in that.  I like it, too--especially since I've gotten better at headshots (I'm not a shooter gamer at all) and actually have the characters saying something to me.  LOL.
But to have Kaidan's on the squad and hear his voice being encouraging would be lovely.  Especially in more of a comrade role rather than as a subordinate.

These are both plausible, but I really hope the first theory doesn't come to pass.  Some people REALLY want a chance to murder Kaidan or Ashley, and it would suck if they were brainwashed and you could either kill them or save them.  The poor Virmire Survivor has been through enough already!

I just want them in a role where they are not being saved, but either doing the saving or treated as an equal to Shepard.  Either way would be awesome.

And we need more Kaidan in here!

There was a part of me when I first played Horizon that was skeptical about Kaidan just walking out from nowhere but I hope BioWare doesn't go there. I also worry about Shepard's reaper tech implants after seeing how Saren was controlled through his implants. I just hope they don't go there either. I want to be in control of my actions and thoughts and I want Kaidan unharmed and unchanged.

Oh wow, I guess that's quite possible. My guess was simply that once the Collector ship was destroyed, any un-collected people would be freed from stasis... but then why the hell was Kaidan/Ashley so far away from the rest of the stunned people. Darn. The sleeper agent thing could suck.

I am generally of the opinion that the VS behaved differently than the colonists because s/he is a trained soldier, and because BW wanted a confrontation. No plot explanation required. Could be wrong, of course, but it seems like an overly complicated twist they haven't really laid the groundwork for. imo, etc.

And more Lost for Words. To make up for missing all of August. :D

@ baal: possible, yes. i really hope they don't go that way, as it seems more to me that ash/kaidan is the loyal poster-child for the alliance right now and they will more be our in-game clue as to what the alliance is doing re: the reapers and shep than something like that. i feel like they will likely come back and either help shep rejoin the alliance or leave the alliance to join shep when (not if) alliance conspiracies are shown to them and shep is caught in the middle.

hmm...though hacket's email got me thinking: i would love to see a trial. VG trials are awesome (tali's, that one in nwn2 was the best part of the game imo). not a whole lot of resources used for new areas and hours of drama. win-win.

I'm doing a Sheploo ME1 playthrough this weekend... and I can't decide if I'm going to save Kaidan or Ashley (it is going to be a no romance playthrough).
