So, I had this theory last week, but haven't got around posting it here yet...I don't know if you've thought of this before, but anyways - here we go...
On Horizon the VS has been stunned, just like the other colonists, but then out of nowhere shows up like nothing happened. Remembering Vigil saying that the Reapers sometimes use sleeper agents...well, the VS could now be one. However, I don't know how much time the Horizon intro and the Normandy arriving is apart, so it may've been too fast to make this theory work.
Another thing I could believe is, the Collectors implanted some kind of device in the VS, that records and transmits audio signals to a network which again transmits to the Reapers, so they know what's going on. The VS is important enough for that, because of the connection with Shepard, Anderson, Udina, the Alliance, etc.
Apart from the fact, that you (probably) wouldn't want this to be true.....could this be possible? I'm curious to what you think :-)
Eh, I'm not sure if this is the route BW is going. It would really put the VS in direct opposition with you at some point. At least the sleeper agent part. The recording device bit is an interesting thought.
But the people appear to have consciousness during the stasis from the Collector swarms, so chances are the VS might know if they had been implanted.
Honestly. I think that either the genetic upgrades Alliance soldiers get burned through the stasis effect quicker (to explain how both Kaidan and Ashley shrug it off) or that when the Collectors diverted their attention to Shepard at the Gardian Defense Tower that the stasis effect lifted. (Or more likely a combination of both). Once free from the stasis, I think the VS would have made a bee line for the tower, because that's where (a) the enemy was converging for some reason and (

the defense tower was active.
Sagequeen had a fairly detailed, well thought out idea for the VS on Horizon breaking free and coming to Shep in her current fanfic.
