I would still buy and play it, but I would be really disappointed.  If that were to happen I'd probably only play it once and I wouldn't buy the collectors, like i did with ME2, or any DLC that came out.  I really hope they don't do that though.  It would ruin any re-playability that the 3 games have as a whole, for me anyway.

btw for for those of you who like this sort of thing, there is another great Vid called Save the Hero.  You all were talking a while back (while I was still lurking) about Kaidan saving Shep for a change.  This fits nicely with that sentiment I think. ^_^

Just watched it. Very fitting, I liked it.

And for being on top, here's a pic.

LOL.  Poor Kaidan.  It's hilarious (mostly because of the guy's voice), but I couldn't read the comments, I know youtube commenters too well.  They're more likely to be immature Kaidan haters than the norm.

I have a question for folks:  I'm still hopeful that Liara will get a squadmate position in ME3, but because of the end of her DLC, it's very easy to see them keeping her on the sidelines in the last game, which in my opinion would be a mistake.  Say we get the Kaidan/Ashley DLC, but in the end, it sets the VS up for another cameo role in ME3.  Are you disappointed, even if the DLC was everything we hoped for in every other way?  Would you be less likely to get ME3 with Kaidan in a helpful but small cameo role?

I would rather have no DLC and Kaidan as a squadmate than DLC and him not be a squadmate.

For me, the gameplay of ME2 is better.  But its not as enjoyable to play.  I just find myself slogging through mission after mission.  In ME1, though, Kaidan is with you all of the time if you want him.  Making little comments, having your back.  And yeah.  Some things were tedious in that game as well, but it didn't matter.  Kaidan was with your Shepard through it all.  And that made all of the difference in the world.

I am a pre order person ... I have had Fallout New Vegas on Order for months ... So I know I will order ME3 as soon as D2D puts it up for purchase ...

But that is all based on them not telling us before hand that we will have to recruit a whole squad again.... And can' t have Kaidan .. No Kaidan, I'm not buying!!!

Cause without Kaidan ... I am with you guys... Why play?

...Speaking of hot, bare chested, biotic gentlemen, the latest ME2 Character Popularity Survey closes tomorrow, so if you haven't taken it yet and verified your vote, do so!

And to answer my own question, I am curious about how Shepard's story ends, but I really don't need to buy the game to find that information out. If I don't have Kaidan in my squad in ME3, I'm just not buying. I'd love some ME2 DLC that was as good as Liara's, but I would be severely disappointed if it meant that Bioware was sticking him in a corner somewhere in ME3, instead being a part of Shepard's team. They would be alienating both Ashley and Kaidan fans, and really making me think that they were lying about their important role in the trilogy.

I know there are those who would call my stance extreme, but there are plenty of other people who are threatening to not buy ME3 if their own favorite characters aren't in the squad. I think everyone has a point where they have to decide whether a purchase is worth their time, money and energy.

I agree with TeenZombie. Everyone plays the games for different reasons. I find the Reapers very disappointing as enemies. Right now the most important thing in the Mass Effect series for me are the characters. If none of my favorites are back, I'd give the game a rent at most.

I really hope Kai and Ash get the Liara treatment and there DLC put's forth there major role in the trilogy may that be an admiral or something big that will help Shepard in ME3 like Liara will be. It would be no fare that Liara get's this huge role and Ash and Kai just get showed in somehow :(

Same here. Though I can't shake the feeling they won't be on your squad. For some reason I see them including ALL characters from both ME1 and ME2 into this epic last chapter, one way or the other. They will be fighting alongside Shepard but maybe on different ships or teams or whatever. I can still imagine them putting Kaidan onto an Alliance flagship, and maybe even risking all to make sure the Normandy stays in one piece this time. Can already hear the conversation between Kaidan and Shepard over the comm. The good old  "I just got you back, I won't loose you again!" as his ship takes the heat away from the Normandy or something cliche like that. It gives him a 'big role' without the chore of having to write and animate one of the least loved characters as a full squadmember.

I still wonder how Bioware will handle all these different characters and LIs but if Dragon Age is something to go by, it doesn't bode well. Shepard could end up with an empty ship and a handful of mails waiting for her where they explain why they had to leave or something, with a possible cameo from former squadmates further down the road :P
Just kidding ofcourse, but again I prefer Kaidan as a squadmate over some DLC that gives Bioware an excuse to sideline him in ME3. I would love to come full circle and have Kaidan and Garrus at my side in ME3, like they did when I first started playing Mass Effect. I kept Garrus at my side in ME2 for that same reason.

Hmm, with the amount of LIs around and possible new ones (gosh I hope not), we can have a fully romancable crew on the Normandy in ME3 lol Swap out the non LIs for ME1 LIs and done, the Loveboat can set sail ;)

Well, and when a Kaidan DLC would mean, that BW puts him on a nonsignificant Role again...Then I would rather wait for having him back in ME3...I would love to have him in my Squad, together with Garrus, Liara or Wrex...just like the 'old' times....*eyes are getting a dreamy shimmer*
And for sure I don't need more new Squadmates....:

To answer TeenZ's question: I will buy ME3. I am too hooked to not finish this trilogy. It'd be like finishing The Two Towers but not Return of the King.

Even with the possibility of disappointment.

It doesn't matter if Kaidan's my squadmate or not. I just want meaningful character development and interaction with him. We saw in ME2 that we can have squadmates but they can have jack-all for dialogue. I would rather that not happen with one of my favourite characters. To have a situation like Garrus' again would be bad. >.< If Liara's not my squadmate, but I can talk with her regularily and she has something new to say that will be great! I would love that situation with Kaidan rather than having him on the Normandy and having to calibrate the guns constantly.

If all else fails, I can forget ME2 and ME3 existed if it doesn't end up the way I like, and my Shepard's story can end at ME1. That's how I view Cinderella and The Little Mermaid.

I think I'll buy ME3 regardless as well. I want some closure, even if that closure is not how I want it to be. I'm not sure though, Kaidan being a squadmate is THE selling point for me. To me ME is Shepard's story and he's just a big part of it in my world ;) I want to hear him comment on situations, and should they bring party banter back (please!), I just want to hear him talk....a lot...in the background and stuff ;)
I mean how awesome would it have been if that ME2 endgame heroic save of the squadmate sliding down was Kaidan? Hearing Shepard call out to him while he reaches for her hand...*swoons*
Just an example of squadmate importance I guess. But yes, if it's really some mind boggling last chapter to the trilogy, I'll just forget ME2 and 3 as well ;)

^ That idea is AWESOME!!!!  Ashley and Kaidan need to save Shepard, who has only saved both of them 4-5 times...
Two questions:
1) Reaper smoothie aside, do some of you guys wish that you had the possibility to save Kaidan/Ashley from the Collectors?  I know there's a fanfic somewhere, but I can't remember who the author is...somebody from KAST.  Called, "Because Horizon Was So Bad."
2) Anybody recall the banter between Ashley and Kaidan that goes like this?
Ashley Williams: Huh. Nobody died.
Kaidan Alenko: I could shoot someone if it would make you feel better.
Ashley Williams: Nah, I'm good.

I'm racking my brain out cause it's hilarious.  ^.^  When and where?

I was talking to someone recently about how I stopped reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, because even before he died and someone else took over, it started to go downhill for me, and it just wasn't worth the bookshelf space for another thousand pages of girls tugging their braids and smoothing their skirts and swooning over Rand, with no climax or closure in sight.

I really do enjoy the combat in ME2 more than ME1, but the story is what's really important to me, and the railroading into joining Cerberus REALLY disturbed me. If Kaidan isn't a partymember in ME3, there's a good chance that the Alliance will continue to be oddly cut out of the picture, as it was in ME2. I loved ME1 because of the premise, and the character I was roleplaying was an Alliance soldier. Not being able to reprise that role really annoyed me in ME2, and they did not effectively explain why I was not allowed to do so. So the story has definitely gone downhill, in only one game, and I fear that Kaidan or Ashley not being part of the team will be a big indicator that ME3 isn't getting back on track.

I totally am not trying to advocate a boycott or anything silly like that, I'm just coming from the perspective of having "stuck it out" in the past, and I don't really have the patience for it anymore. I will read about ME3, watch live streams if they're available, and get reviews from people, and if I'm satisfied that the story is up to snuff (and for me that means bringing back Kaidan), I'll be more than happy to run out and get my copy.

Oh I understand completely, part of me feels the same. I'm afraid of what will happen in ME3 in a way and it could very well leave a bitter taste in my mouth, much like the last parts of DA did. ME3 could very well shatter the trilogy as a whole but they did say they're going back to the RPG more than they did in ME2, where they focused on the new combat system. I think we may get a general idea of where Bioware is going with ME when the information starts flowing, or maybe with the story DLCs they promised.
We just have to see. I just don't want to see huge spoilers Kaidanwise before playing ME3 myself, so I'm not sure if I can hold out and read reviews first :/

1) It could have been a legitimate reason in keeping them out of the fight and potential for getting Shepard to move her butt.  I would have done a lot of the game differently, though, so... *shrug?*

Kaidan could also have been on the SR2 after the end game, with that reasoning.  <_<

2) In the Wards, buying mods from the krogan for C-Sec.  (Buying, not trying to take him in or kill him).  I think.  It's one of my favorite banters.  ^_^

Aw I love that part! I'm still bitter at the fact that we have to chose between Ash and Kaidan. I love Ashley, I hate leaving her behind on Virmire! (Because frankly, I've never had the guts to leave pretty Kaidan there...)

As for ME3, I'd rather have no DLC and a recruitable Kaidan. But how cool would it be if we had the possibility to pick our own crew? Though I guess that would be a bit complicated to create..

I love Ashley, too...and it always gives me a hard time to leave her on Virmire...Most of the time I stare a while at the screen before I decide...even so I already know who'll die...I never could leave Kaidan on Virmire....It won't even happen on my male Shepard's playthrough...

That would be amazing. They could give us a limit of ten or whatever and let us go round and gather them up, maybe let some of them approach us.

I know it would be expensive for them to create.  But you know what?  Tough.  BioWare created their own problem by creating twelve "compelling" characters in ME2.  Add that to the five in ME1.
Everyone has their favorite characters and wants to see them as squadmates in ME3--especially if they were LI's.
IMO, they dug their hole, now they have to deal with it.  They sure as heck don't need to add more new characters!

That being said, I would be somewhat okay if Kaidan was on the ship, but you could talk to him frequently--if he had just as much dialogue on ship as any of the squadmates.  Not just the two conversations that you can have with Chakwas, for example.  But that would not be optimal.  I loved all of the little comments he would add on missions.  Like the extranet fettsh site one.  Image IPB

I will likely buy ME3 regardless.  I'll likely try to limit my spoilers to if he is a squadmate or not so that if Kaidan isn't, I won't be disappointed.  But if he's not a squadmate, I might buy it used just so BioWare doesn't get the money directly.  So I feel I made a point.
