I"m worried about ME3 in that we already have 9 (10 if you count Kelly) LI's on the books already.  BW wants to make each game stand alone, which might mean more choices.  Ugh.  Its not that I'm against that, just that it was painfully obvious that they probably have only a certain amount of time and money to put in to the romance angle of the game.  And whereas in ME1 it was divided amongst 3 characters and was full and meaningful, then in ME2 it was divided amongst 6 or 7 new characters--making it short and not satisfying.  And if they add more characters into the mix...  Image IPB

I think about this a lot. And then I think about the fact that I'm a minority in every sense in this game with my decisions and my likes and dislikes. And then I look at what the majority players got (romances for characters that originally non-romances, more shootah, *huge* focus on popular characters) and I just sigh and sit in my skeptical corner.

Well, Priestly always seems to have new announcements on Mondays. So, I'll check tomorrow and remain optimistic that there will be some sort of DLC announcement. And then it will turn back to pessimism.

I don't expect the next story bridging DLC to be announced until Late October/November, if anything, there might be a small anouncment tomorrow, I hope I am wrong however.

Yeah, I'm not expecting any big announcements soon. Liara's DLC was planned from the very beginning, and it took them a while. Making an Ashley/Kaidan DLC would be more complex, and if it's happening, the project wouldn't have started as soon as Liara's. Like Kraidy said, late this year, or maybe the beginning of next year, to mark the first year anniversary of ME2.

An announcement would be AMAZING. Head explodey amazing.

Ya, you have two characters which BW needs to work with, that's two VAs, not counting the new or old characters coming back fully voiced(Like Anderson) plus I think may of us would love the treatment Liara got in terms of friendship and romance content, that would take alot of work for Ash and Kai.

I would love Bioware just to comfirm they are working on it however, if they did that I would be super happy.

One thing that makes me think that they won't have VS dlc is that there were no hidden audio files for the VS. Liara had hidden files and so did Kasumi. That doesn't bode well for us.

I can be more optimistic that maybe, just maybe BioWare has a huge announcement next month regarding ME3 that comes with a trailer, featuring either Ashley or Kaidan. Just to show us that they're not forgotten. And if that's the case, then I might not be so antsy for DLC.

EDIT: did Overlord have hidden files?  Maybe hidden files doesn't necessarily connotate future DLC.  And BW did say they wanted to bridge the ME2-ME3 gap with DLC, so I'm hoping there's more to come anyway.

It's possible that VS DLC or VS in a bridge DLC was planned from the start, but is simply a back-burner project (also: why waste the resources if DLC don't happen to sell well?).

... I still wonder why they were even kept in - everything from ME1 seems to have been pushed aside for the Bigger, Better, Bolder in ME2. I suspect that Kaidan/Ashley still has a job to do simply because they've been kept alive; it would have been easier to blow them up with the original Normandy.

See the thing is Wrex had an amazing cameo scene, there is no excuse why BW did a craptastic job with Kai's cameo scene. The point that Conrad(even tho it's bugged) had a better cameo scene is just a insult.

LotSB fiile is has EXP1 on the file title, so there is more story bridging DLC on the way.

True.

I suppose it's possible that the original character writers were shuffled around and whoever got Kaidan and Ashley didn't really care about them or didn't even like them, so they simply did it as quickly as possible with a "close enough!" attitude towards the end product.

I don't know.  I don't get a lot of the changes in ME2, and playing through it again there are a lot of rough corners.  It feels very rushed in a couple of spots... maybe they simply ran out of time and had to wrap everything up quickly.

As far as I know, Chris who wrote Ash in ME also did Ash in ME2. I don't know who wrote Kai but judging that the only orignal writers from the ME team that left was Drew and Chris. I don't know if Drew wrote Kai, I know Chris didn't, he wrote Ash, Thane and Legion.

Well, that... makes a lot of sense, actually, given how the dialogue on the rare occasions we actually talk to the VS seems to be geared more toward Ash's character.

Chris L'Etoile has spoken very eloquently in the past about Ashley NOT being a racist, and explained the "dog and bear" example very clearly.  I don't think he would have written Ashley's line on Horizon "I don't like aliens, but Cerberus?"  It's possible that he wrote the email, or someone added that line after he left (since he left mid-project), but it's just not something I think he would want to rehash, after trying to break that stereotype.

I just want whomever writes Kaidan and Ashley next time around to be someone who actually cares about the characters.  It didn't feel that way at ALL in ME2.  :(

I wouldn't be surprised if after Chris left one of the new writers was assigned to Ash and they changed one of the lines. I still think Luke should have been lead writer, I like Walters and all, but he's not lead writer matrial.

Maybe he left after the major drafts, but before final rewrites got done?  And someone else had to polish...

I don't know if it's true or not, but one of the writers (for what the Reapers were doing with the human goo) has been quoted as claiming their idea got mangled by the end product of the game.  I get the feeling there was a script overhaul late in programming that made things a little weird, overall.

Many things where changed, mangled or cut. Kasumi and Zaeed,(the characters) where cut for DLC, Hammerhead and the firewalker where cut then later made into DLC, LotSB was cut from the main game and made into DLC so they could focus on Liara, there was to be more squad in-fighting and Legion was ment to be recruited after Horrzoine(sp)

It's like during the game, BW decidede to do a huge overhaul.

I'm guessing it was to push the game out on time.  I have to admit, they did a decent job despite all the stuff they cut.  Unless they cut some awesome reunion with the VS after the suicide mission.  They better never, ever let us know about that cut content...<_<

Plausible that there was a story overhaul.

I still think Ashley and Kaidan were more or less melded together out of convenience, but for me it's less the writing and more the dialogue. At least, the more I analyze the ME2 cameos.

At least there were some differences in the dialogue on Horizon. And if BW was having a truely derp moment, they could've given Ash and Kaid the exact same emails to give to Shepard.  I'm not a writer, but how much different dialogue can you create for characters who see Shepard dead after two years, in a 2 minute cameo?  They have to be happy and sad in that short span.  Interchangeable dialogue with minute changes was something that occurred in both ME1 and ME2 for squadmates.

I'm more mad at the cutscenes and cinematics. Kaidan is using a gun to shoot at swarms, and he clearly has biotic barriers. And both just nonchalantly walk up to Shepard after the attack. I would've like to see Ash at least run and hug Shep, since she's the more emotional of the two. I could see Kaidan doing the walking thing, being all apprehensive, then slowly giving her a hug. Cross-eyed animations? Phoenix armor on Kaidan during the Normandy crash?

If there was cut content, BW won't let us know, look what happen when the Liara fans found out about the cut SB mission, it was a nightmare. ME2 is a good game, and that's how you have to look at. ME did somethings(in terms of writing) better and ME2  did osmething better. both have flaws in diffrent areas, however I am at least happy BW fixed up the Liara mess, now fix up Kai and Ash and I will be a happy fan :wizard:

So, I used to post here back in January alot, but lately I've just been lurking and monitering the conversation.  I agree with this, though.  Despite thinking that Kaidan was a little short-sighted, I thought his dialogue was fairly in-character.  I mean, it is hard to think of how someone would react to seeing someone, especailly someone they were in LOVE with, after thinking them dead for two years.  And the e-mail, sounding all hesitant-ish was definitely Kaidan.  What I hated, was the ridiculously small amount of closure.  If you had done the romance, it was like, 2 lines of dialogue.  It was barely addressed.  I realize that may have been awkward for them, but... at least do something.  I'm pretty skeptic about ME3 or DLC because everyone seems so wrapped up in the other BAMF characters from ME2, and after LotSB, Liara.  I'm really worried I'm going to be sorely disappointed with how they end the Kaidan/Ashley romance in ME3.  As of right now, I was okay with how ME2 went, I figured it would be a tiny cameo.  I thought Kaidan was pretty IC and I know it was the middle segment, so to give too much closure would have set ME3 up for nothing.

However, some of the things that have been said about Kaidan and the lack of things that have been said about him make me worry that I *will* be pissed when it is supposed to be a closed chapter and I'm still left feeling like I do now, wanting more.

This is why Kai needs a DLC pack before going into ME3. If he goes into ME3 like he is now, it's going to be a mess.

After re-reading my quoted words, I realize I should make something clearer, because looking back at what I wrote it looks like I'm all over the place in my thoughts.
I'm less focused on the whole story writing and more of the character dialogue development. I can handle Shep getting resurrected (not the best plot device, but meh), and the fact that the geth have been replaced by the Collectors and having to work with Cerberus. I can get over those choices. But I don't like having characters melded together. Especially characters I like.

What I meant to convey was that I was torn about the dialogue. I understand the dialogue maybe should've been different to convey their different characters, but at the same time, both Kaid & Ash are seeing Shep for the first time in two years. A person they thought dead, who is apparently alive and working with a terrorist organization. Of course both will be happy and sad. And in a two minute cameo, there's not much. And I was also trying to acknowledge that there was interchangeable dialogue for the squadmates in both games, so maybe it shouldn't have been surprising that they did so for Ash and Kaidan.

But the cinematics should've done what the dialogue didn't: convey the two as separate characters. Which it didn't.

I was always worried about that too, and worried we'd get shut down if it happened otherwise.  But Pacifen nicely relocated the thread because somebody posted many spoilers referencing the novel.
