I much prefer the gameplay of ME1 as well as the story, so I'm unlikely to prosper with whatever comes next.  I try not to dwell on that or bring anyone else down, though, so please have some groping instead.

Chris L'Etoile has spoken very eloquently in the past about Ashley NOT being a racist, and explained the "dog and bear" example very clearly.  I don't think he would have written Ashley's line on Horizon "I don't like aliens, but Cerberus?"  It's possible that he wrote the email, or someone added that line after he left (since he left mid-project), but it's just not something I think he would want to rehash, after trying to break that stereotype.

I just want whomever writes Kaidan and Ashley next time around to be someone who actually cares about the characters.  It didn't feel that way at ALL in ME2.  :(

Chris L'Etoile did IIRC comment (on the wiki?), that at least Thane, whom he wrote originally, was changed in the final release. I wouldn't be surprised if at least Ash got the "Walters GrimDark" treatment in the DLC or in ME3, which made Liara unrecognizable in the release version of ME2. That line about aliens doesn't indeed bode well... Image IPB

Hell, in that "bear and dog" line, she was saying THE COUNCIL wouldn't be racist for thinking like in her example, she wasn't defending herself.

Ugh... I hope Kaidan's original writer is still in the team. Or they give the job to Weekes, who I understand was was involved in LotSB.

Weekes did a great job in LOTSB, so if he get the job about Kaidan I will keep my hopes up.

LOL!  That could be some hilarious fan fiction.

I was trying to get screenshots in ME1 last night and I thought of another reason we need Kaidan/Ashley DLC:  I want Kaidan to be the first (or one of the first) teammate I pick up again in ME3, and DLC would make bridging this easier.  I know the haters will whine, but they'll whine no matter what.  The Virmire Survivor deserves to be in the last game from the beginning, after all the crud they've been put through.

@TeenZombie : I'm with you 200%! I don't know how things are going to play out in ME3, but I'm deeply and profoundly scared at the possibility that considering Alliance has ditched you, and you have ditched Cerberus (Well, I have), what happens to you?? >< Kaidan wouldn't ditch everything to join your ship..(Will you even STILL have the Normandy 2??) Well, I wouldn't assume he'd do such a thing.

On another note, I was re-playing Horizon yesterday and I realized that in Kaidan's words, it wasn't the "I loveD you!" and other things that hurt me the most, but the "You betrayed the Alliance. You betrayed me".

IMO, Shepard needs to be out on her own.  Look what happened in the first game with having to cow-tow to the Alliance and the Council.
Shepard is going to have to unite very different factions of the galaxy in order to defeat the Reapers--Alliance/Citadel, Cerberus, the Rachni, the Quarians, the Geth, the Krogans, etc.  And now she had Liara on her side with all of her intel and monitary resources to help Shepard.

Who knows if it will be the same ship or not.  But Shepard will  have a ship.  I could see Kaidan joining in a couple of ways:  (1) and less likely would be that he is disillusioned by the Alliance and their secret dealings or (2) he is sent by the Alliance/Council to be their representative on Shepard's team.

As to Kaidan's response, it was harsh, but from his POV its justified, too.  From Kaidan's POV, the time on the first Normandy could have all been a plot--that she was playing him all that time and was a Cerberus agent.  OR that despite what they had been through and seen about Cerberus, she left the Alliance to work with them voluntarily for the past 2 years--and faked her death, allowing him to think her dead for the past 2 years.  Neither really should make him feel warm and fuzzy toward her.  I'm surprised he even sent his message considering.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  I'm still catching up on what y'all did over the weekend.

@Jade : Actually, you're right. When I think of it, Shepard would end up on her own, rallying whoever would agree, to her cause. I'm so glad I saved the Rachni! And maybe Cerberus would let Shepard keep the Normandy and help her out either way. TIM says it himself : she's the only one who stands a chance (Well not alone. You know what I mean) against the reapers.

And I'm totally okay with what Kaidan says on Horizon. Heck, I think he handled himself pretty well, I would have been a wreck! Still, these two sentences always ******.

Yeah.  He does pretty well, considering.  But it still hurts.  A lot.  Especially when he walks away so angry.  Image IPB

And I'm working on Retribution.  But at the point where I am in the story, TIM is allowing Shepard to be separate at this point since he knows that he/she is still working against the Reapers.  He had no immediate plans of interferrance.

@Persephone Rising:  Its a cool idea.  3 different Shepards in one story!  You all should read it.  Image IPB

A little OT, but I'm playing Vanguard for the first time and getting my butt kicked regularly. I know that you all play that class a lot. How do you use them to make them most effective?

'Cause I want to be a good team leader for Kaidan (there. I tied it in. :P)

Yeah, the strategies are entirely different in both games.  For one thing:  Kaidan's there to bail your ass out of anything poorly planned in ME1.

ME1 Vanguards need to make good use of the power wheel. I recommend max marksman over shotgun because on higher difficulties, it makes sense to continually pelt the enemy to keep them from getting up. Invest in adrenaline burst so you can spam your powers. Would you like me to pm a build to you?

Edit: The KAAS has 597 members!! W00t!!!!! =]

@Jade: The big things that I did in ME1 was make use of biotics often. Lift was my number 1 choice, followed by throw. With Kaidan, you can alternate lifts between the two of you to keep enemies juggled for the most part. And like Fort said, Adrenaline Burst is awesome to get your powers back.

In ME1, I found what I did really was impacted by my group and what I had them setup to do as support. Kaidan had maxed biotics (save Stasis), and maxed decryption and electronics. The rest of the points were mixed in First Aid, Medicine and Sentinel. It really didn't matter who #3 was after that.

Edit: I will state that going from ME1 to ME2 and keeping Vanguard as your class will involve a huge change in the way you play. At least, I found that I changed my playstyle to fit.

I love Vanguard...my favorates were the shotgun ...let the hostile come close...and then shoot...it worked very good for me... and also max marksman...then I loved to use lift and throw...and the same here Adrenaline Burst is just a wonderful to way to get the powers back faster...

And it's true to play Vanguard in ME 2 is a totally different feeling. But it works fine for me now I love to use shockwave and as an extra power I use reave...

In ME1 Kaidan was always with me, together with Garrus/Wrex and in my last playthrough I took Liara often, too...

Of course, I'll always have Kaidan with me. Otherwise, what's the point of playing? ;)

And those are a good place to start. Fort, I sent you a PM request.

I just remember hearing about Vanguard charging in. Perhaps that's ME2. 'Cause every time I do that I get my backside handed to me!

And I like the power wheel. It's been my friend for 5 previous playthroughs.

Its fun using some of the renegade dialogue for the first time, btw. She's nice to humans unless they are jerks. But aliens, she's more stand offish. Its fun for a change from my previous Paragons. And you get slightly different Kaidan dialogue, too, which makes it a new experience. :)
