I only remember my first time through because it was only a couple of months ago. otherwise I don't think I would have any recollection.

Man, I miss seeing Kaidan's squad screen. :-( When I think of all the awesome abilities he has, it makes me sad to see how few skills / powers squadmates in ME2 get. But I'll hardly mind if he is thus restricted in ME3, as long as he gets to be a squadmate.

It could only get better if Wrex rejoined my Shepard's team (Kaidan and Wrex were her wrecking crew), but I honestly think Wrex has responsibilities that rightfully keep him on Tuchanka. I can't in good will hope for those responsibilities to go away. The situation with Kaidan doesn't seem the same. Although hardly free of responsibility, the human race as a whole doesn't look to him for leadership and guidance. ;-)

Kaidan and Wrex are the best team evar!!!!!!

And I hope that if Kaidan's in ME3 that he's as awesomely useful as he is in ME1.

We should! Then the human race would be awesome (and muscular).

Just so you guys know, I've told other threads they cannot celebrate page counts or even mention page counts, and the same is true for this thread. It's off-topic and promotes unnecessary competition.

While Kaidan is certainly a source of all things awesome - and thus deserves oodles of abs appreciation - I'm not sure he'd enjoy a super-influential and critical leadership position.

Of course, maybe I'm wrong. (And I know we're just kidding - but it got me thinking.) But yes: Kaidan struck me as the kind to seek a certain amount of responsibility, as part of his strong sense of duty to defend and protect, but he doesn't think so much of himself that he'd actively seek out something analogous to Wrex's position. (If, you know, the human race had been gene-bombed. Or suffered an analogous crisis. Too much analogy for one post!)

Well, what about eventually replacing Anderson?

I agree very much; Kaidan is more a 'reluctant leader' than one to assert his influence. Although, I think Wrex is spurred by desperation more than power lust. He tried to influence the Krogan cooperatively but he was almost killed (by his own father, no less). And the Krogan too only seem to respond to assertiveness; it just appears to be in their nature. Wrex knows his people are dying out and he wants to save them. I honestly think he would be okay with not being Chief, but maintaining order amongst the Krogan requires a strong hand. Not to mention that he was betrayed when he tried to make change democratically.

Actually, I think Kaidan could be an awesome Councillor. (And Anderson definitely deserves a nice retirement.) Kaidan has a nice mix of idealism and practicality which I think would be a great boon to the role. But I can't see him seeking it out.

Yes, I really do see Kaidan as a reluctant leader, but I wasn't saying that Wrex is spurred by power lust.  I think Wrex just has more of a visceral sense of what his people need and that he must be the one to do it (since no one else seems willing to see the truth and do the right thing).  In other words, I pretty much agree with you re. the desperation.

I'm playing the beginning of ME1 again now.  And it always just strikes me how sweet Kaidan's character is in his idealism at this point in the story.  Here he's this hardened marine of at least 10 years' experience, yet his perspective is still so fresh and wide-eyed at times.  Then at other times he tries to take femShepard under his wing a bit to give her the benefit of some of his experiences in life.
There are NO characters in ME2 that have such a richness about their character as Kaidan does.  Just sayin

Its kinda a shame that Kitty, my renegade vanguard is gonna have to stomp on a bit of that idealism and turn him.

You get some really nice lines if you renegade him.

My Renegade Vanguard did good things because he was there. His idealism restored her dreams. She still beat the crap out of people. Missing him in ME2 made her darker and more violent, but there was still always an element of "Will Kaidan yell at me if I do this?" She still shoved that merc out the window, but she's going to lie to him about it if he ever asks.

Yes, he was my Shepard's "moral compass" in ME1, too. Not that she always listened to him.

I'M BORED!!! Somebody start a flamewar with me so I'll have something to do.

Barring that...Kaidan asks for some private time alone but instead of nookie, he wants to know your opinion of the people you recruit in ME2 because he has this nefarious plan to secretly go around and tell everyone what you said, that way they'll all mutiny and he can become Captain of the Normandy so he can finally take out that stupid Fish Tank of Death and put in something efficient...like shelves for his action figure collection. <que evil laugh> (does Kaidan have an evil laugh? Hmmm....)

So...what would he say about whom and would it be good, bad or both? Oh, and why limit it to the crew? expand it to everyone you meet. Aria, Gavorn, the C-Sec officer and the Volus who victimized that po' little ol' helpless Quarian damsel in distress (do Quarian females come any other way?). What if you recruited Morinth instead of Samara? What would he say to that?

Or you can ignore me and tell me I'm wasting time that could be used writing. I'm actually good with either option.

@ Dae... I love the "She is going to lie to him about it if he ever asks"

But if Kaidan is renegaded ... wouldn't he want you to play toss the merc?

(okay I know it's a paragon question...but I can't renegade...Paragon... it's not a life choice, it'a a curse)

Even though I've never renegaded Kaidan myself, I love tehPrincessJ's video on the process:    It shows that Kaidan doesn't just roll over and agree with everything Shepard says to him right away.  He disagrees at first, takes some time to think about things from her perspective, and by the end of the game, he starts seeing things differently, especially after the Council locks down the Normandy.

I can buy that his status as a "renegade" doesn't carry over to ME3, because over two years, whatever influence Shepard had may have gone away, or things may have happened to either strengthen his previous convictions or disillusion him even more.  I just hope that if they give you the option to do something like that again, it isn't awkward, or seems like Shepard has magical brainwashing powers...because if she does have those, how do you explain Horizon???

@ Jaer... Uh sweetie ... did you have too much chocolate today...
You could be writing...

So let me get this straight... I get the private time... but he wants to talk... and I am not allowed to tempt him away from said talk?.... Because.. Jaer ... I am thinking

Kaidan: So Shepard what do you think about .... Shepard, what are you doing?....Shepard... (groan) Oh, Shepard I missed you....(mufflle and other noises )

Is the only thing coming out of that meeting ...

I've honestly never seen this version of the dialog.  I'm going to go watch it now.  Thanks!

I think it's a bit disappointing that the 'Renegading' of Kaidan doesn't affect the Horizon reunion, but perhaps it will mean something later?

@ Estelindis: I <3 Wrex. I think he had the best reunion (besides Liara). I like Grunt too but I hate Shepard's responses to him; she yells at him whenever he says anything violent/funny.

I'm thinking it might be a six pack of voltage on 3 hours of sleep. Hmmmmmm...maybe I should add chocolate on top of that? (Look, my comment is Kaidan related and not OT!!)

Usually something fun comes out of my hyper/brain can't shut down moods...like flashing Krogans on the Citadel who get compared to Kaidan and lose. Today I am a blank slate of nothing who demands that her minions amuse her. Unfortunately, I have no minions so all ya'all're stuck with me.

@Jaer: that is too much question for me today. It's my day off. The brain is not engaged at all. Sorry.

Though, I do think he'd be really suspicious of most of the crew, since they were willing to sign on with terrorists and work for someone who was supposed to be dead, and they all apparently totally bought that whacked-out story.

fortunesque, that's a great shot of Kaidan....he looks tired. Probably had a late night with Shepard. ;)

jillyfae, it was a long time before I realized you could zoom in while aiming/ driving the Mako. There was something else important that I didn't even realize I could do until my second playthrough but I can't remember what it was. One of my male gaming friends had a good laugh though at my expense. (I'm also the girl that thought that someone named "Respawn" kept killing me during multiplayer Halo but it was just the game telling me that my character was "respawning" at a different point when coming back into game after a death.)

Reverie, I can finally play ME1 and ME2 now on Veteran, although I'm usually lazy and just play on Normal.

My spec for Kaidan is similar to the ones posted here. I always max Decryption and Electronics since I usually play as an Adept and Wrex is typically my other squad mate so I need Kaidan's help opening things up. He's handsome, sweet, smart, AND talented.
