I played DA first, so I got to know Alistair first. I do find him endearing. However after finally playing ME I much rather prefer Kaidan. Since he's much more of a man and less like a boy. But then I'm almost 30 myself, so maybe that plays into it. I don't know.

I could not speak for others, but this does come into play for me, too. I like Alistair, but as DA:O played out, I was like...oh, I know this guy. I met him in college - several of him. Very charming, completely unreliable. Sorry, that was my take on Alistair. I prefer Kaidan. Even his hissy fit on Horizon was smexy and admirable.

Reposting this for Cerberus apologists, with the reminder that TIM deliberately set the Collectors on Horizon.  He lied about not knowing anything about Kaidan, leaked his location, and made Horizon a target.

TeenZombie wrote...

Hmm, Kaidan sees dead collectors and collector pods all over Horizon.  He also sees Cerberus operatives in the area.  Why wouldn't he think that Cerberus is working with the Collectors or using them for their own purposes???  Let's review:

Evil / Stupid Things Cerberus Has Done That Kaidan or Ashley definitely know about (collected from the Mass Effect Wiki):

-  conducted horrific experiments intended to create super soldiers, including experiments on rachni and Thorian Creepers.

-  accidentally unleashed rachni on Listening Posts Alpha and Theta when their experimental subjects -- shipped from Noveria -- escaped from Depot Sigma-23.

-  deliberately destroyed a settlement on Chasca by turning the colonial pioneer team there into Husks.

-  in one of their most devastating experiments, Cerberus lured thresher maws to the colony on Akuze, resulting in the notorious massacre, later capturing Corporal Toombs -- one of the only survivors -- to conduct brutal tests.

-  Commander Shepard, investigating the disappearance of a group of marines under Rear Admiral Kahoku, found that Cerberus had lured them to a thresher maw nest using a distress beacon (similar to the "experiment" they allegedly conducted on Akuze). After being informed of their death, Kahoku bought information from the Shadow Broker and sent Shepard to track Cerberus down. Shepard's team went to Binthu to take out Cerberus' research bases, but not before Cerberus had Kahoku killed. Shepard then headed to Nepheron to launch an assault on Cerberus' main base.

Things that Kaidan / Ashley may NOT know about, but make Cerberus even more evil / stupid:

-  the events of Mass Effect Ascension, where Cerberus infiltrated an Alliance biotic training facility, the Ascension Project, and forced a red sand addict to give his autistic daughter biotic enhancing drugs that would also give her seizures.  Then they tried to steal the quarian Flotilla's transmission codes and blow up the Migrant Fleet.  Why?  Because TIM doesn't like that they have a lot of ships.

Then we have the facility on Pragia that Jack escaped from, Project Overlord, and all the lies and traps TIM send Shepard into.

Really?  Kaidan should just *know* that Shepard has good intentions when he sees that she's joined Cerberus?  I would really hope that he has more sense than that.

LOL, thank you, I <3 you and this thread too.

I know there's no point in debating, but sometimes it's nice to reiterate that people who don't trust or like Cerberus aren't being blindly optimistic or illogical.  Yeah, sometimes the paragon path is not the best way, but sometimes the renegade path is EVIL and STUPID.

Not all Renegades trust Cerberus, either. Faith Shepard being the prime example off the top of my head.

And neither do Paragrades like my Meghan Shepard.

Don't forget that TIM tells us that Liara is working for the Shadow Broker when he knows full well that's not true! He out-and-out lied there.

I love renegades, especially in ME1.  It's harder to pull off in ME2 without spouting some pro-Cerberus lines if you're not roleplaying that way.  I really hope Shepard has more range in the last game, I'll be disappointed if they keep pushing the "paragon=anti-Cerberus" and "renegade=pro-Cerberus".  It's never that simple.

TIM is certainly a liar and when Shepard was given the choice to walk away from Cerberus... How many of us would have, even after going to Freedom's Progress... I am sorry he would have seen my butt on the way out...

I had a Kaidan to go find...

it does. halfway through (collector ship) paragon shep lines are "oh, i'm sure it's a mistake" and renegade are "wtf?"

this is why kyrie started going renegadish in ME2. she just got MAD.

I carefully read the taglines and ignore what position the text is in and make sure that I save before every conversation. That's the only way I get satisfactory lines in ME2 :/

Yeah on the collector ship I didn't care where the lines were, I was just he betrayed us! And I'm usually a paragon. I also couldn't stand the paragon responses on Horizon for the most part. I felt like I was grabbing some pompoms and joining Miranda in the cheering section -_-

What are the examples of cerb taking an entire colony or larger?
I see a colony as 30k people or more.
As i'm not aware of any incidents but i also don't know everything about the universe / read all comics ext.

Sure there was things like project overlord and jacks facility but that is fairly small in comparison to a colony. Just saying cerb doesn't come across to me as mass genocide human killing types unless it was alien related.

Hope to see Kaidan as a crew memeber option in the 3rd, though suspect it might take a while in the game to resolve some issues.

Seriously? Cerberus' actions are okay so long as they keep the death toll per colony under 30? Really?

I have no words.

Get some reading comprehension. No where in my response did i say that the actions were "ok" or i approved of them. You assumed and you know what they say about assuming.

Basically the points i was trying to make are moot at this point. Lets just continue on with our discussions of Kaidan.

This. I really stopped paying attention to what line is considered to be a Paragon or Renegade one.

I know exactly what they say about assuming, sweetie. That it's a cliche the inarticulate use when they can't express themselves very well.
You'll be so thrilled to know, too, that by the time I hit enter on this post, you will have ceased to exist in my reality and I will no longer acknowledge you.

Ya'all have a good night now, ya hear?

So basically you are doing me a favor. Right on!

Anyone know what rank Kaidan was given by Horizon?

I stopped trusting TIM when he started smoking in front of Shepard.  Smoking is bad for you... and he is a bad role model.

Kaidan is a Staff Commander on Horizon. So technically he outranks Shepard.

haha

If he was your role model and you are Sheperd, then the galaxy is in for a lot of hurt. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
