The pic is actually from when Shepard wakes up after Eden Prime. He's waiting for the verdict, hence the closed off look. He's bracing himself to be yelled at.

Even in my renegade playthrough, I couldn't yell at him. I mean, look at him....

I know. That look says that he's angry at himself and that he deserves any punishment that Shepard is going to give him.

I may have said this before, but I think Ash should have been the one to go to the beacon, regardless of Shepard's gender. It makes more sense story-wise. Then Kaidan could have been the one waiting in the medbay to try to ask femShep to go easy on Ash. Then Shep could have been all, "You really wanted to see how I was doing, didn't you? You're sweet to hang around." *cue blush*
