Hey, Sheploo is not canon, unless you count marketing campaigns as telling a story!  :pinched:

Why do I get the feeling that very soon, he will be?  :crying:

I play a femshep just to avoid being yet another bald space marine hero.

Which is why I like Kaidan, he can kick ass yet is not bald, nor does he deliver cheesy one liners.

Kaidan's hair is amazing!   It could have its own franchise!

His hair is amazing. So amazing that pre-Illos sexy time doesn't even ruin it! I don't care what anybody says about, dangit! I imagine my femsheps loved to fun their fingers through it. >;D

Random bits of Kaidan-awesome. I started another femShep in ME1 and got into this really gritty fight. I thought Kaidan and Wrex were busy covering the other side of a hideout. Shep was busy with this dude, going toe-to-toe. I swear, I thought my Shep was about to go down, but out of nowhere, guy gets hit with an overload and thrown across the room! Moments later, Kaidan swaggers into screen and I'm just speechless.

Were it me, I'd just ravage the man then and there. That man never leaves my squad in ME1.

I wish I'd taken a picture of this. There was one time when Kaidan for some reason did not transition into the Mako with everyone right away so it looked like I accidentally...ran him over. x_x

Kind of reminds me of the time I accidentally pushed Liara off of a cliff, actually. I felt so bad.

Kaidan's seriously the best squadmate.

He can use both tech and biotic skills, and he's also competent in combat.

He does half the work on my squad when I have him.

Same here, Brodyaha. Kaidan's combat versatility is unmatched.

One thing I find very interesting is that the general consensus is that Miranda is the most useful ME2 squadmate and she is also... wait for it... a sentinel. Yet so many people claim Kaidan is useless in combat. Is it Miranda's squad bonuses that actually make the difference, then, or are people simply not being fair and refusing to give Kaidan a chance in combat because they don't like his character? (Or some other option?)

I think you have something here.  Perhaps the measurement is really about whether or not the NPC provides eye candy for the player.  I used Miranda a great deal, just as I did Kaidan although it was pretty hard to miss the gratuitous a** shots (honestly, I still don't know how the woman walks in that crack splitting jumpsuit and high heels much less fights so well.)  So I can see her appeal to men and boys in particular.  Kaidan on the other hand, was just another squadmate in regular armor.  Certainly appealing to me -- the Squeezy pic comes to mind - but prolly not so much to most men.  So sex appeal prolly has as much to do with usefulness as skills. I think perception factors into squadmate "usefulness," whether it's sex appeal or not.
I personally love playing as sentinel in ME1 because I have the gameplay versatility, but I will admit that my judgement of characters has been clouded in the past. Maybe Kaidan died too many times for a number of people (and he does seem to die on me a bit more easily than other squadmates, but I just make sure his barriers are up and that I give him an armor upgrade).
I admit, my perceptions of Tali were clouded for that reason: everytime I took her with me, she kept dying, and I just stopped using her. And then I put her in medium armor, plus a few upgrades, took her on a few missions with Liara, and my jaw just dropped when they took out platoons of geth in 10 seconds. Now I take Tali with me everywhere (fits into my story arc for Alistair Shepard too..).
Now, Kaidan combines the best of tech and biotics, so he's also a useful squadmember.
I've also always found Miranda useful too. Especially when she uses Heavy Warp.  She and Mordin rock.

It's probably this:

... and the rest is history, I guess.

To be honest, I'd love to have Miranda and Kaidan in my squad for ME3. I've come to like Miranda as a character and appreciate her usefulness in combat - just as I did with Kaidan in ME1.

I can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure on my first playthrough I took Garrus and Tali all the time. I always take Kaidan now and try to switch up the 2nd person but its honestly usually either Wrex or Garrus. I guess I just like dudes in my squad. I will do a manshep game though, someday.

I switch out the second party member too depending on what works best with my class. If I have my choice aside from that it's Garrus. He's one of my favorites. One thing, though- does anyone else do everything they can to keep Kaidan out of that Scorpion armor? I just hate the brown camo and black look. Even if the alternative is inferior I put the better looking armor on Kaidan (or me, if I'm light armor only that play through).

I hate camo in general, especially fake camo. But I am always a function over form girl.

I would bring Miranda along more because her abilities for stripping shields and barriers are excellent, but she ninjas lines from my funnier squadmates. When talking to the 'biotic god', Garrus says something like 'Shepard, this guy can't even tie his bootlaces." I find it oddly sweet and you can bet I was appalled when it got cut for boring Miranda lines.

I think the reason people prefer Miranda over Kaidan is, as previously mentioned, due to the fact that Miranda is a woman. ¬_¬

Having said that, I find Miranda less useful than Kaidan... She doesn't have the same edge, and she's definitely not got my back. >:/

My ME1 team was always Kaidan, Wrex or Garrus. At the moment though, I'm playing with Liara and Tali. For achievements. As soon as I've gotten those, I'm going right back to Kaidan and Wrex. O_O

I use Miranda a lot on my Vanguard to fill in Kaidan's gap. She's yet to save my ass as often as Kaidan did, or Garrus does. I do like the character, but she doesn't seem to have FemShep's back as much as Kaidan did.

As a Soldier, my Shep found Miri indispensable. I basically stapled her to my butt for every mission. My Vanguard needed no one but Garrus ^_^. But, they both missed Kaidan. I would have made him unlock all the doors for me.

I actually like the look of Scorpion armor, and I usually equip my team with it until I find Predator L (for Kaidan and Mia) and Predator H for Ash.  Or Colossus, one or the other, though I've found Colossus to be more rare in my experience.

I’ll put my characters in the best armor I have at any point in the game except for Phoenix armor, that gets liquefied immediately.

My dream is to find the Phoenix armor manufacturing plant, and nuke it from orbit.  I can never get Ashley out of that horrible armor fast enough.  Wait, that sounds wrong... oh, you know what I mean.

You know what's even worse than Kaidan in Phoenix armor?
Wrex in Phoenix armor.  Although it's just as awful as it is hilarious.
I had him and Tali both suited up in that armor for one mission.  Looks pretty good on Tali, admittedly.
But Phoenix on Kaidan....

Oh wait--  so this is why Kaidan's wearing it at the start of ME2. Of course.

Shep hates it. It must always be removed.

Alenko's looking to score again.
