Oh Carth. Never will I understand why people hate Kaidan for having the same voice as you, for you are awesome. <3

I really need to play KOTOR!! >_< I keep hearing all these amazing things about Carth, but I've never gotten around to even buying the game. ¬_¬ What's worse is, I'm a big Star Wars geek. o_O

Meh, I think everyone here knows that the only people who compare Kaidan to Carth are trolls or idiots who never bothered to get to know either character.

Kaidan is completely, wonderfully, fascinatingly different (even his voice sounds subtly different to me) and I have already in the past expounded at length on the differences in the two romances.

As have I, Joisan. As have I. Just because it bears repetition...

  • Kaidan is not a hotshot pilot (we only see him in the co-pilot's seat once; Joker is the Normandy's hotshot).
  • Kaidan can use biotics (whereas Carth could not use the Force).
  • Kaidan's class is not "Soldier"; in fact, he's the very opposite, half-and-half biotics and tech.
  • While Carth could wield a wide variety of guns, Kaidan has no weapons skill apart from basic pistol training and the Sentinel bonus.
  • Kaidan hasn't been married.
  • Kaidan does not have a long-lost son.
  • Kaidan hasn't mentioned losing a member of his family to war (in fact, he specifically countered Vyrnnus's jibe about killing his father in the First Contact War - his father didn't fight in that war and is still alive and well).
  • Kaidan doesn't have enormous trust issues with Shepard - hasn't suffered a past loss that was secretly Shepard's fault - and can't be betrayed by Shepard over the course of the game by Shepard joining the Reapers (there is no such option ).  EDIT: Okay, so I wrote this before ME2...  Bah.  (At least Cerberus != the Reapers.)
  • Kaidan hasn't been betrayed by his previous commanding officer, Capt. Anderson, and as a result isn't searching for Anderson in order to obtain revenge.
  • And, most importantly, Kaidan can dance. Not well. But he can still dance!

You know, he's been out of the game for two-three years and we've still got a while to go before ME3... there's still time to insert both a wife and a child post-ME1.

(Okay, so I'm being a pest.  But if they really wanted to.... <_<)

That would just be cruel and unusual punishment. They better not do that.

I can accept him moving on after two years, but moving fast enough to get married and have a kid?

To be fair, I imagine that would bear mentioning somewhat above a date with a doctor.  ;)

Hell no. If I want my Carth fix, I go play KotOR, or work on Truth and Lies. I play Mass Effect and write Shenko precisely because he's different.

Keep Kaidan as Kaidan in ME3. Don't make him another Carth just because the haters like to compare the two.

As for Garrus's romance, you should watch the break  up scene, it shows that, at least for him, the relationship is more than a fling.  The way I see it, he is surprised by Shepard's proposal -- and as he says, he's not into humans -- but Shepard is special to him, and after taking that mental leap of seeing her as more than a leader, he is disappointed and hurt if things don't work out.

I've seen it. Broke up with him after reconciling with Liara. ;) The sad part was that I felt bad after breaking it off with him after that. I think I would have liked the romance more if they intergrated that moreso, than have it mentioned later on. I love Garrus, but I wished his romance was more like Tali's. I watched vids and was soooo very jealous. I think I made a man!Shep just to do so... but I haven't had the will to complete him... ^_^;

As for cheating/taking a break/breaking up, it's all up to the player, but the devs quote about consequences makes me wonder.  I would really like them to make whatever occurs to be mature, and respectful of the characters involved...no cat fights or hair pulling, please.  Well, maybe cheating on Jack would end with some broken ribs for Shepard and his other LI, but it's silly and out of character for the others to act that way.

Ohhhhh, how about if it were like when you can resolve the arguements between Jack/Miranda or Tali/Legion? I found those interesting. Especially the impact it could have on loyalty. I could see them implementing this to ME3, but I hope it's not silly petty fights. I can imagine some friction with Shepard desolving them.

I have been busy in the KAAS for the last few days so I have been absent from here... I wanted to say about moving on to a new love intrest ... everyone keeps mentioning the Two Years...Well while I have no problem with Kaidan moving on after two years (drinks with a doctor is not really moving on, he says he tried) I do have a problem with my Shepard moving on.  It has not been two years for her... Ilos was maybe a month before.

So even with all that She would have wanted to make sure it was over before She pursued anyone else, and quite frankly It could wait until She had finished with the Collectors.

Okay and with that this is the KAST/KAAS Public Service Anouncement:

Hello New people!!!!

Our one line story is good clean fun... okay well it is fun... start from the begining... end brings you to the end... just read along or add a line and help us move along... all are welcome and you don't need to be a writer to join in... just make sure you know where we have been....

I stumbled across this interview while looking through the forums:

Question: If you had to pick three decisions from the first Mass Effect that most affect the story in the sequel, what would they be?

Casey Hudson: For those who haven't played Mass Effect, I should mention that (a) there are some spoilers ahead, and (B) you really should play Mass Effect. I'd say the top 3 decisions are probably the choice of who lives and dies in the nuclear explosion on Virmire, who you had a romance with (if any), and whether you allowed the Galactic Council to die during the final battle. These things naturally cause some of the longer-lasting effects on your story as Commander Shepard. Another interesting aspect is that the sum of your decisions – your renegade / paragon status – also has an immediate and profound effect that we can't explain without giving away some of the story.

Yeah, right.  I must've played a different game then. Image IPB

.........is he really talking about ME2?
.............really?
Cause I didn't see enough of the ramifications of those consequences in ME2.

With that in mind, I don't think I want to know how the "important" and "integral" role of Kaidan/Ash will play out in ME3.

I think a lot of people are feeling the same way as you Chignon. I know I'm worried about it. Since they are supposed to play an important role in ME3 and it better not be with them sacraficing themselves to save Shep. My Shep had better get her happy ending or I'm going to Image IPB

That's a really nice way of saying that it is more or less a lie.

Ruby, don't worry. I'm pretty sure our Sheps will get a happy ending - I can already see it: a message before the final battle against the Reapers, "Hey babe! Sorry, can't make it - migraine. Image IPB Kaidan".

That was funny but, wrong on so many levels lol...So in ME3 he doesn't even get a cameo all we are going to be stuck with is a letter Image IPB

LOL!

I remember that interview... It is very typical Hudson PR. None of those "most important" decisions mattered much. Unless he thinks getting mocked by that finger quoting turian putz was somehow important in the greater scheme of things...

I want Kaidan/Ash/Liara in ME3 too..I remember, that Devs said once, that we will not be able to recruit Kaidan/Ash to ours team for suicide mission, becouse they will play large role in ME3...It gave me hope that it will be not just silly cameo with maybe two dialog linees, but really a big role, maybe even as a companion..But after ME2, and broken promises about ME1 LIs ( Devs said, that we will be not able to take them with us, but we will be able to be in contact with them via mails-can't find this post now unfortunetly) Im not so sure that I will see them again a bit longer that five minuts....

What? It didn't have this great, fundamental impact on your Shepard's story, Mox? My Noah's feelings were hurt by the human council refusing to see her - a few more mercs had to die to make her feel slightly better! Image IPB

Seriously though, exactly that's why I trust Hudson as far as I can throw him. Especially when he talks about having saved Ash and Kaidan for this supposedly important role in ME3. My guess so far is that either we get a message similiar to the one I wrote in a previous post or Ash and Kaidan will throw themselves in front of a Reaper to save Shepard.

Yeah... my first guess for "important role" was "leader of the Alliance cavalry that shows up at the 11th hour."  I haven't really reformulated it, but I guess it beats out "Saren 2.0," which will probably go to Shepard.

NICKjnp wrote...

The responsible type, but with a dash of the fun type thrown in.  So... your kid won't be in any danger, will probably have day trips to museums or out hiking, and will probably be eating candy, ice cream, and sugar-laden cereal whether you want it to or not.  ^_^
