That's a really nice way of saying that it is more or less a lie.

Ruby, don't worry. I'm pretty sure our Sheps will get a happy ending - I can already see it: a message before the final battle against the Reapers, "Hey babe! Sorry, can't make it - migraine. Image IPB Kaidan".

Why doesn't this seem so farfetched...?

I unfortunately wouldn't be surprised if what they meant by an "important" role was one where Kaidan/Ash sacrifice themselves.

But how are the new characters and new LIs for ME3 gonna get any love if the ME1 and ME2 characters and LIs hog all the spotlight?  Think of the new ME3 characters and LIs!  :crying:

I wouldn't be surprised if what they meant by "important role" was "something we cooked up at the last minute because people complained," that will involve a tearful four minute sacrifice cameo (either in person or recorded and left behind at an investigative spot) out of spite.  <_<

Huh. I really, really, and I mean really hope that Ash/Kai return as squadmates... If they bring them back, only to kill them off... /sigh

I can't even think it. >_<

Ok I really wished I had Kaidan in ME2 right now.

The Derelict Reapers final battle on Insanity is Murder. I miss my Sentinel buddy who had good CC and weapons. Its so hard but I finally made it through with my Infiltrator.

Also for my two sheps who romanced him as well, they count I guess.

Yes, we need more! We only have, what, nine romances? What do we need actual development for when we can get new romances?

You know, this "cooked up at the last minute" you mentioned sounds suspiciously similiar to the Horizon cameo. Especially after reading that lovely interview. Image IPB

Which interview?

I posted an older interview on the previous page:

I stumbled across this interview while looking through the forums:

Question: If you had to pick three decisions from the first Mass Effect that most affect the story in the sequel, what would they be?

Casey Hudson: For those who haven't played Mass Effect, I should mention that (a) there are some spoilers ahead, and (B) you really should play Mass Effect. I'd say the top 3 decisions are probably the choice of who lives and dies in the nuclear explosion on Virmire, who you had a romance with (if any), and whether you allowed the Galactic Council to die during the final battle. These things naturally cause some of the longer-lasting effects on your story as Commander Shepard. Another interesting aspect is that the sum of your decisions – your renegade / paragon status – also has an immediate and profound effect that we can't explain without giving away some of the story.

Yeah, right.  I must've played a different game then. Image IPB

The interview is more than a year old and besides being typical PR, how these events are perceived is a matter of interpretation. The "longer lasting effects" are related to the "story of Cmdr Shepard" -- which goes on past ME2, so perhaps that's really what he was alluding to even it the overall interview was about ME2.    I'd rather not try to speculate based upon really old and out of date information.  And as an eternal optimist I believe we'll get Kaidan goodness back in ME3....

But that would mean that there would be 13 squadmates!

If you add the VS that is to the roster.

I dont really want to lose any of the existing ones, I like them all.

Hudson was talking about the sequel of ME1, which is ME2 as you already stated. He doesn't talk about "sequels", nor about ME3. What we interpret into his statements is just that, an interpretation. And while this particular interview may be out of date, there are many others and more recent ones that follow the same vein. As it is, I can't help but feel that his statement about Kaidan/Ash having an important role in ME3 has as much truth in it as the one I quoted.

This is of course is just my opinion.

EDIT: We need more Kaidan on this page:

I think my muse would go crazy if I tried to work on two completely different stories like that at the same time.  I'm starting on Ch. 16 of my KotOR 1 fic featuring a Carth romance.  :)  My PC, Andra, and Carth are currently alone in his bedroom.  Make of that what you will :D

So... say Kaidan got a really good role for ME3... what kind of role would that be?

As a squadmate by Shepard's side.

@FireEye: Squadmate would be lovely, but I'm not sure we'll get that lucky. I like the Alliance rep idea, especially since Jen would be keen to return to the Alliance, maybe she even uses her stupidly good charm score to convince the Alliance to allow Kaidan to keep tabs on her. He can read her mails (he'll see his still in the inbox!), be present when she makes calls etc. She has nothing to hide from him or the Alliance and you know, we need Captaincy status because I couldn't get used to Kaidan being her superior!

This would obviously work better if he was a squadmate, if not I want to be able to visit him a la Liara on Ilium, even if the dialogue loops after a while he'll still be there...and we should get a hug/kiss every time. Then he needs a big part in the final battle, helping in someway, then a reunion groundside. I think the final battle could take place over Earth since the Reapers are targetting humans now...

I've thought of this a lot, and this is why I'm going to be reading full spoilers about ME3 before I decide to buy it.

I'll probably do the same. Just to be sure I won't waste money.
