Hey everyone I have a question for you all. As we all know it has been stated by BioWare that cheating will have consequences in ME3. Now here is my question "From who's point of view is it considered cheating?" Will Kaidan consider it cheating even though you were dead? Or would your Shep consider it cheating because, as far as you are concerned you never really broke up, you just got spaced Posted Image  I just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on the subject. I don't think we ever really discussed this before or I may be wrong and could have missed it Posted Image

My Shep would consider it cheating on her part.  I think Kaidan would be hurt yet come to understand the destruction of the Normandy altered what they were or could have been.  Her reasoning for not partaking in a new love interest is simply she's not over him.

My Shep's perspective on the matter is as follows:

Kaidan's comment about not doing that lightly anyway as well as his concerns regarding the regs against fraternization had her realize she would not pursue him further if she questioned whether or not they were a good fit.  As the gamer, I have no idea what happened between ME1 and ME2, but my Shep did not need a dinner date with him to define their relationship.  When he broke regs to be with her, she was aware it was no longer battlefield flirting for either of them.

After waking up in the Cerberus facility, Ilos had occurred approximately one-month prior so the last thing on her mind was romancing anyone else.  She was attempting to make sense out of her death, resurrection and collaborating with the enemy.  Also, how she seemed to be the only person capable of dealing with the Collectors and Reapers, even though they were sidelined to an extent for her stint as Dear Abby.

Shep did not expect the man who almost said he loved her during their battles against Saren and did say he loved her later to process their unfortunate set of circumstances on Horizon.  Kaidan could not put his mission on hold to follow her.  Nor could she for him.  His oath was to the Alliance.  Her allegiance was to the colonists.  Therefore, she will wait until things settle down to figure out their personal stuff as he suggested.

Hopefully, they’ll get that chance.

I think they should have included a "reply to" button or a breakup option on Horizon. Without them it's kinda almost cheating (more, moving on without talking it through), but you're also pushed into it if you wanted to end the relationship. I don't think Kaidan would even consider it cheating, necessarily (even if from his perspective you were alive those two years). Shepard might consider it cheating, but she might not - since all Shepards are different.

... My Shepard considers the relationship over and she's sad about it, but she wasn't looking for romance, so she's not going to go jump another guy because she's alone again, particularly since it's only been a few months at that point. (Trust me - I wanted the achievement points, so I tried, but the romances were all OoC for her and kinda weirded me out on a personal level, so... no paramour achievement for me.)

Kaidan is the only LI I'd be interested in dating if he were real. I just have a pairing for him that I like better than Shep. That's all.

Out of curiosity, who do you like to pair him with?  I'd be very interested in fan fiction featuring Kaidan and a non-Shepard romance or even friendship.

Miranda, though I personally haven't written it yet. I did find a pretty nice story as part of Shore Leave Friday a few weeks ago. I'll have to see if I can find it again.

They really should have, but I guess Bioware was too busy pushing people to the shiny new LIs.

I didn't even realize there was an option to stay true to the ME1 LI until my second playthrough.  Needless to say I felt guilty about it once I found out.  It will be interesting to see how the reunion/confrontation plays out.

I know that for my canon Shep, Kaidan is the only man for her. She can't move on from him because, she loves him (funny hair bump and all lol) She feels that he is the grounding element in her life. The calm amongst the storm. I don't want a cat fight for those who didn't stay loyal. Yes they are adults and they should be able to discuss things rationally.

I know that BioWare wanted people to forget about the ME1 LI and move on to those in ME2 but, I don't think that they considered that some people actually grew attatched to their LI. I know that the one part that pissed me off with the love scene for Kaidan and Shep was that after it was over they gave her the two crappiest lines to say which Night quoted in her post. Even Ash and Male Shep had better lines.

On a side note I noticed that the big announcement for today was an interview that Mac Walters did about the new comic coming out Posted Image

Well said, Sirius.

I have had a similar question though as to what the consequences will actually be or whether it's just more BW hype.  I actually posted a topic question when LotSB came out (since I hadn't imported my Liara-romanced Shep into ME 2 so didn't play it) about whetherr players found there were any consequences.  Several people responded that htey had romanced others -- Miranda or Tali - and that Liara made a snide remark about it but agreed to re-enter the relationship with Shepard. From what others said, the "cheating" wasn't even close to being  a deal-breaker.  So I have to think that this will be a model for the other ME1 LI romances as well.  Maybe we'll get a bit more pushback since Kaidan/Ash did respond more harshly (on Horizon) than Liara did on Illium, but still, I suspect the consequence will be less harsh than we might imagine.

I have a fantasy that there will be a DLC in which we get to "create" a reply. Rather than just "continue" and "end" options, I imagine a reply that would work sort of like any other dialogue in the ME universe-- that is, we get to choose from several options as we craft the letter.

For example:

Intro choices could be something like Dear Kaidan - Hi Kaidan - To Cmdr. Alenko - Hey Jerkface

First body paragraph could have choices for I still care for you deeply, that hasn't changed - We had something but now I'm not sure, let's figure it out later - I've moved on, let's stay friends - I'm sleeping with someone new, hope you are too - etc.

Basically I want to build a reply that has some customization options. It wouldn't really be so hard, I think.

Something like that should have been in the main game in the first place. I love your idea, avalon. I really do.Posted Image

Thanks and I agree; a reply should have been in the game.

It would be even better if Shepard read those lines aloud as she typed them. I would swoon for the sweetness of all the options my Shep would pick. And then I would go on youtube and giggle nervously as I listened in horror to somebody else's foolish Shep starting her message "Hey Jerkface..."

You really should post your idea to the VS DLC thread. Posted Image

I was very disappointed when I realized that there was no way to get in contact with Kaidan before the Suicide Mission - for all we knew Shepard really could not have made it back and yet we did not even get to a chance to say or do something.
As many others have already said, it was very sad to see Shepard so isolated, as the only one who had essentially noone to turn to and the only one of the crew whose issues were left unresolved

Nono, Shepard resolved her issues on Horizon!  TIM said so!  :o

How could I ever forget? Posted Image

What makes me incredibly bitter and not too hopeful for a DLC/ME3 is how careful I had to be to find and pick the conversation option on and after Horizon that don't translate to or sound too much like "I've moved on." or "Whee! It's over! What do I care?".

If the Liara DLC is anything to go by, they do. All we can do is hope that they are willing to put the same amount of work into Ash and Kaidan. They did make a statement in one of the threads, saying that all LIs are equally important to them and the story - but so far that is nothing more but pretty words.

The problem with that is that the Liara DLC is a perfect example of how Kaidan and Ashley are definitely NOT being treated equally in comparison to the other love interests -- yeah, we got one line mentioning them -- *if* we chose the right dialogue option -- but when Liara asks what Shepard is fighting for, all other love interests are represented in choices, except for Kaidan or Ashley.    The writers of Liara's DLC saw that Liara fans wanted a chance to reconcile, and threw in extra dialogue for people with other love interests, but deliberately made a choice not to allow those of us staying faithful to have that same shout out.  Why should we have a positive outlook at the moment?

I do try to be hopeful, but there are moments that I feel like I'm being delusional.  I'd really like to be proven wrong.
