I think in fact that one of the reasons I like Kaidan (and Carth!) a lot is because they aren't as young. They are more mature and heck...they're really good to look at! 

Oh yeah!  I completely agree.
When I played KOTOR, one of the (many) things I found hot about Carth was that he was a strong, virile, ADULT man.  Not some practically-teenage genderless "male" character *cough Cloud*
Kaidan's like that too.  Strong, powerful, and complete in himself.  He doesn't need Shepard.  He wants her.

Kaiden just seemed like a guy to me, kinda like Jacob.

honestly, I've seen more comments on how Kaiden is boring, or Kaiden whines, or Kaiden is like another emotional Carth (Someone I also had no problem with) but of those same people, there is a split between who likes Ash and who doesn't. 

I don't think I would have minded Ash so much if she had let go of her hate by the end of the Romance, but she doesn't. The poetry also got to me since I don't like literature in general.

But of the Kaiden lovers, a lot of you seem to like Ash, so that is what makes me think that Kaiden is more disliked of the two.
