I sometimes feel like the odd man out because Horizon never really bothered me. I mean the writing was kind of half assed, but from a purely game perspective I can understand why Kaidan was as angry as he was. I found it understandable. Horizon is never my favourite part, but that is more due to the fact of the protorean (spelling?) than anything else.

But I've heard that Liara fans were also mad at how she was treated in ME2--kind of sidelined, treated Shep coldly--but I think she got a better cameo than Ash or Kaid, so I have no complaints on how she was treated per say.

So maybe BioWare wanted to guide us to trying ME2 romances, or they were so caught up in all the new characters and making ME2 as sexy as possible, that Ash, Kaidan, and Liara were put to the wayside. A third option: they just wanted to guide us astray to surprise us with their epicness for the future (I think Liara now has an important, epic role established for ME3, so one down, two to go).

I am personally hoping it's option three.

You're welcome.

I also think Liara got the better cameo. You know where she is and what she is doing. You can even help her out with not only one but two small missions. Whereas we know next to nothing about Kaidan - except that he wanted to report back to the Citadel.

That is not to say that Liara fans weren't right to complain. As I said before, I played ME2 first and it was hard to believe that the Liara of ME2 is the same as the one of ME1.

Yeah.  And with Liara, you can go back and see her, even if she doesn't have anything new to say.
Kaidan just disappears and no matter how hard you look, he's nowhere to be found.  :(

Adepts destroy Horizon (especially the praetorian)... or any mission with Collectors... all three of them.

I hated that thing too! In my ME1 canon game i've saved just before each convo with Kaidan incase i want to enjoy them again. I did this in ME2 before the horizon talk but i'd have to keep defeating that thing if i wanted to replay it...

I managed to do a save before Kaidan arrived but after I defeated the Praetorian.  I reloaded the save after, but he never arrived, and I was just wandering around the area after the Praetorian left, waiting for the scene with Delan and Kaidan.
Sadness.  :(

OMG! I told myself the second time i played through it to see if i could save as quick as a flash, im glad i failed lol. Maybe him not showing at all would have been better

In one of my unfinished unuploaded fanfics i have Femshep finding Kaidan still in stasis from the bug bite as the first encounter, think i actually prefer that to the real thing lol

He goes to Horizon to investigate rumors that she might be alive.

He's there to investigate Cerberus, not Shepard.  I kinda pick up that he wants to believe, but doesn't believe, the rumors that she's alive and I think he most definitely didn't expect to see her (which he's happy about, but not about the Cerberus).

Anyhow.

I take Kaidan's side in the Horizon argument, mostly because I agree with everything he said, mostly because I'm disappointed in the ME2 writing elsewhere as well as there, mostly because I think the "working with Cerberus, not for them" is semantic nonsense, and partially because... well, if I were in his shoes, there probably would have been a biotic temper tantrum.  :innocent:

I was mulling over everyone's opinions last night and watching the Horizon scene, and the dialogue provided for Shepard truly is anything but satisfying! But like many of us who've studied Kaidan's dialogue, tone, and body language when first encountering Shepard, you have to have some capacity for hope. It's just in his character: Kaidan balances duty and what he really wants so precariously that he'll still not step over any lines, but that has to put his heart in limbo most of the time because he's not able to do exactly what he wants, when he wants. His first reaction is to embrace her, let himself cross what I'd assume is a line he normally wouldn't let himself cross. But then again, he's fulfilling his purpose for coming to Horizon in the first place. I have no doubt that Kaidan went to Horizon chasing after "a ghost"; Anderson wouldn't tell him anything, so really he and Shep are in the same boat. But flying to a remote colony halfway across the galaxy isn't out of Kaidan's way when he's looking for his woman!

I really believe Kaidan was paving the way for a long-overdue discussion: "I thought you were dead, Shepard. We all did." He's struggling under the burden of grief, disbelief, the greatest relief in the world (seeing with his own eyes that the woman he love[s/d] is alive), maybe even suspicion. Yet he's offering himself as that shoulder she once asked for. That should have spelled out "faithful" and "what's really going on?" to Shepard, but with her indifferent, unemotional response, perhaps he thinks she's deflecting his support and doesn't want him involved (because, well, she's really quite similar to a hunk of stone in that situation).

In accord with what I've highlighted in Star's quote, I really wish that Kaidan would have "lost it" for a moment. Told his missing girlfriend "Oh, well, I've just been grieving for the past two years, burying myself in work so my mind will stay away from the unbearable thought that I'd lost you forever, putting myself under the illusion that I'm 'moving on', you know. All that fun stuff." Flare those biotics, baby!

But instead, he's the Kaidan we all know and love. He takes the cooler route, but it's still unmistakable: her death was an almighty blow in his life that practically crippled the man. However, he's strong; like one of our wonderful crew here said a few days ago, "Kaidan doesn't need Shepard. He wants her." He reached out with his emotions - which few men do, why I love this one so much! - and Shepard gives him yet another deflecting response: "I don't want to reopen old wounds."

That, to me, is saying she doesn't want to try. :(

God, what I would give for her to say, "I do want to reopen old wounds! Hell, I'll even be the salt in them, as long as I can be with you!" :crying:

Pretty much sums up my feelings on Horizon and where the main problem is with the scene is in my opinion.
