I'm just going to stop lurking for a moment and say this probably has to be my favourite board in the forum, I mean, I've been mostly lurking for months and months, but I always come back to this one, and read at least ten pages at a time. Not that I ever will catch up. But this one has it's silly moments, and it's serious moments, and it always makes for a good read.

I have a question for you guys - what do you think will happen with Kaidan, if you romance someone else in ME2?

My main femshep is loyal, of course, then my second was made from the start with no LI, so I could romance Garrus without being unfaithful to anyone. But in my Renegade Shep, I decided to romance Thane, instead of stay loyal to Kaidan... What do you think's going to happen with him if/when he finds out about this? I'm assuming it'll have some kind of impact in Me3, surely.

I read somewhere that there will be repercussions if Shep doesn't stay loyal. How much of an impact it's going to have, though, is questionable. I hope they do a better job of it than they did with the confrontation scene in ME1. That could have made for some tension/drama, but instead I felt it fizzled and died. *goes back to admiring shirtless Kaidan*

@ squigglyelf: given how calmly and maturely kaidan/liara/ashley were in the confrontation scene in ME1, i imagine it would be something like this:

Kaidan: Were you faithful?
Shep: Uh...no. I slept with ______________(insert name here).
Kaidan: *long silence* I see. Well, ready to go kill the Reapers?

If you were faithful, you get the chance to tackle-interrupt:

if that happened, i would probably not buy any more bioware games ever. it wouldn't be so much a "RAR! protest!" thing as much as the fact that i would completely lose faith in their ability to tell a good story.

and story is, after all, what sets their games apart from the pack.

They do say in one of the loading screens on ME2 there will be consequences but that just may be that you will not be able to continue the relationship. With Liara in LOTSB it didn't really seem to matter if you strayed, you could still get back with her. I don't really think they should do that with Kaidan, he's a very loyal character and I don't think Shepard moving on would go over well with him. Kaidan is very mature so I don't really think he would say much. I think it would be handled the same way he handled the confrontation scene in ME1 with Liara. He would just want to know what's going on so that he can move on or not.

I sincerely hope there's more to it than than a five minute cameo, they had to keep the VS alive for something more than just being in the last two games for a total of like... ten minutes combined. My first playthrough I spent the whole game up to Horizon searching for something about Kaidan, and when I never found him, I thought there was going to be something epic happening with him. Then I got to Horizon, and spent the rest of the game looking for him again, thinking that maybe there was a little more somewhere. It was a fair bit disappointing. The message at the terminal after Horizon was a nice touch, though, I'm glad they at least added that.



I really hope there's more to it than that in Me3...

Non loyal Shep: So I started something with Kelly/Garrus/Jacob/Thane.
Non loyal Kaidan: I understand, Shepard. I'm dating someone now. I hope we can be friends.

Meghan will get what she deserves.  If Shep moved on, I don't see why Kaidan can't.

I think it would be an interesting possibility. For me, something like that would be a more compelling narrative development than a big, "you betrayed me with him/her" style blow out. I don't want to see that. Not from Kaidan.

Although that scenario would suck royally for a character who had stayed faithful, I think that would actually be kind of nice for Kaidan's character's sake, to allow him to move on and find someone else.  For a Shepard who thinks of him as a platonic friend only, letting Kaidan have a girlfriend would be cool, and would add some characterization to someone that many people find bland (since he didn't have as much to say to a non-romanced Shepard in ME1, and they only knew him as that guy with Carth's voice...).

I don't think they'd do it either, because of the work involved in the variables, and I'm sure they will keep ME1 love interests on the side for those who moved on and want to go back to them.  I have no idea how many people would *want* to go back to Kaidan or Ashley, at this point, but I'm almost certain the option will be there.
