mmmm, pensive Kaidan.
thanks everyone! I've got lots of ideas for more, but we'll see how they turn out (meaning we won't see if they don't) ;)

I can't wait to see more of your art, dirae. I already told you this on dA but I love your style - it's very unique. I only need to see the small preview picture to know that it is your drawing.

I agree with you Fort, Renegade Kaidan is scrumptious.

My first play throughs were Paragon, but I have to say that Renegade... Kind of grows on me... Making my Shepard unable to stop punching people & co Oo

And great new pictures :) Brava!

Wonderful pic! The only complain is that I can't recognise surroundings. Why do I think it's Migrant Fleet?
About turning Kaidan into renegade: Only few xenophobic lines? I know I'm going to do at the weekend then. Thanks, Fortunesque! :)

I thought it was the Citadel, shows how much notice I take of the game, lol. And I love the new pics that have been posted.

I haven't renegaded Kaidan. I've tried to renegade both my femShep and Kaidan but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm a wuss, obviously, lol.

@mineralica, I can see where you are coming from, it is the ferns in the background and the misty looking grass area he is sitting on that makes it look like the migrant fleet :-)

Beat me to it! It IS on the quarian fleet. During Tali's trial, the extra squadmate sits on the steps and waits quietly with their arms resting on their knees. It's very cute. I usually bring Garrus and it makes me smile to see him sitting there for some reason.

It is lovely, a very attractive and pensive pose, I did mention that I like it (a lot) didn't I?! Well I really do......

So I've really been back into the Halo lore for the past couple months and I noticed that the SPARTAN program from Halo is similar to the BaAT program in Mass Effect. I should probably pick up Mass Effect and play through it again, I haven't in so long. :D

I have to force myself to stop playing or I get caught in a ME loop  I am currently killing time on Fable II because I am saving Fable III for Xmas............
I will most likely revisit Kaidan before Christmas though ;)

you know, i could never bring myself to "renegade" kaidan. i didn't like the idea of causing him to lose some of his idealism. if he could be idealistic after that many years of service, i like that. the council annoys me, but i don't see them as any more or less evil than any other government. i think my shep's ultimate insult to them was just that she's actually not terribly impressed with them one way or another and doesn't bother with them if she can help it.

but i think the main thing was after kaidan's confession about vyrrnus, which seemed like this really personal thing, i could never bring myself to have shep say "all turians are the same." even my most renegadeish version of my shep had enough of a crush on him to be too caught up in his story to interrupt with her political views. so unless i pretended in my head that these were two separate conversations, i could never justify it.

well, and then again, i like starry-eyed kaidan. but that's me, and i can see how renegade kaidan might fit another telling of the ME story better.

hmmm.... kaidan hugs

I couldn't renegade him (until recently, I didn't even know you could -- it's not like Alistair, after all, where hardening is necessary to a happy ending. ~looks back at sentence, blushes~). Avery likes his idealism because it matches hers and Meghan didn't want him to become as jaded as she is.

I renegaded him in my renegade play through just to see the differences in his character.

I agree with both Sia and Sage, I prefer the non renegade version of Kaidan.

canon-Ella likes renegade Kaidan. He has some great lines. Then again, Ella hates politicians, and fails at keeping her mouth shut, and tends to impatience. All my other Shepards prefer starry-eyed Kaidan, as Sage put it.

I definitely think it's worth playing a renegade game to see what he's like, and just mentally adjust the renegade dialogue in your head to be anti-politician/Council rather than anti-Alien. (If you don't like playing your ren-Shep as a xenophobe. Which most of us don't, I've noticed.)

This post is full of win.
I looked at some renegade Kaidan on Youtube and thought "who is this guy? He's a stranger to me. At least his voice is hot"
I think the youtube vids have satisfied my curiosity anyway. I'm at my ME1 replay-through at the citadel and I always get excited about that spot where they all appreciate the view and Kaidan lets slip that he thinks Shepard is beautiful. Implied, anyway. I always savor it. Its pretty much set up and ready but I hesitate to be done with it-- even though I hate how tedious that first visit to the Citadel is.

Yes, I scan ALL the keepers. I do every little quest. But the only part I like is that  Scene with Kaidan. And maybe his spontaneous dialogue. Like when he notices the relay humming or the things he says in the elevator.

Kaidan has gotten me through MANY an elevator ride.

This.

Here's my take on the Council and why I renegade Kaidan. There's nothing mean or heartless about it.

The Council is an oligarchy that takes tribute from 'lesser races' that aren't allowed to join their little ruling club. It's based on elitism and the idea that they think they can be the boss of the volus, hanar, humans etc. I strongly disagree with Kaidan; they *are* malicious. It's obvious that ambassadors barely get any say in what happens to their race (called 'lesser' races even) while the stronger races get to lord their position over the weaker ones and tell them what to do and give them sanctions. When a new race is discovered, they are given the opportunity to assimilate or they become outsiders.  When they run out of their use or need actual help, the Council abandons them saying that it's a batarian, quarian, human problem etc, even though they're supposed to protect these races. They're given fake representation on the Citadel while the Council uses them to fund their massive armies. After a race proves themselves, (becoming scary and threatening like the humans), they're given more faux power because the real club is only for Turians, Salarians, and Asari. The whole galactic government is based on racism and is stupid at best, fascist at worst.

Talk to Avina on the Presidium in ME1. It's a real eye opener.

That pretty much sums up all the reasons why I renegaded Kaidan in every playthrough so far - well, at least since I found out that I could do so.

i agree w/ you fort and chig, but given that the humans do the exact same thing in ME2 (which is really more a failure to write something unique or different there than really show the outcome of that decision), i figure a government that's stupid and corrupt w/ representation by multiple species is better than one that's stupid and corrupt of just humans. again, i don't trust the council any further than i can throw them collectively (Then again, adepts can throw pretty far, but...)... yeah. i feel like kaidan can have his political opinion and i have no desire to influence or change it.

but again, to each their own playstyle. i just wanted to defend default kaidan. i actually like him best when his lines are sort of neutral. he really isn't completely starry-eyed, which i like. i just see him as having high ideals but realizing they don't always come through. i didn't want to take his ideals away, so to speak.

I wish BW would give us the opportunity to go super-renegade and say f-you to the Council and the pro human agenda. I'm pro-everyone. There's no option for that, sadly :/

What I wish for even more would be for the choice to actually matter but since it isn't even carried over to ME2. /:

My canon Shep has an idea that all races should be represented in Council because that politicians are everythere the same, so every of them being given opportunity to repress other races will do that, so only way to avoid it is creating interstellar status quo. In fact, she's opposite-everyone. That's why she agrees with default Kaidan on "aliens are just like us"

According to my Shep, aliens are just like us - the politicians anyway - because they will screw anyone over if there's any gain to be had. They use the guise of "the galaxy's best interest" to further their own agenda's, thus keeping themselves and their race in power and forcing the "lesser races" to roll in the muck of red tape. Jaded? My Shep? Never.

On a side note, I got tired of waiting for ME3, so I made up my own: Renegade Sun

Shameless self promotion?  You betcha.
