Its the same with films. If theres an unhappy ending... no matter how well done.. its still an unhappy ending. It might be cliche to want it disney-like but i prefer it....

To be honest, I've had enough of angsty endings and it gets old after a while. But that's just my opinion.

*shrug* One person's tasteful pathos is another person's angst. I think if anything is written well, it's gonna be appreciated. I like when things are crafted well-- even downer storylines *wouldn't* be angsty because it's written well. Does that make sense?

I guess I'm just worried Bioware has too many balls to juggle.

Bioware seems to really want to become less structured and thoughtful in their games in favor of becoming a 1st person shooter kind of company. Does anyone else sense that? It feels very foreboding as an RPG fan. I've heard whispers of them wanting to reintroduce RPG elements in ME3, but what does that even mean, really? Maybe its EA's influence, I don't have a high opinion of EA at all. My imagination paints EA as a big dumb jock looming over Bioware's artist desk saying "Wut is dat dere? Too many big words. Make Manshep more. Female shep bad. Liara Liara Liara. Gun Shoot. Go BOOM."

I think happy endings are overrated-- there are SOME cases where they don't fit and its just very... weird. Like when Spielberg tried to force a Kubrick film into being a Speilberg film....

The same might be said for happy endings.

I feel that "sad endings" get a bit repititive after a time (DA:O and NWN2 come to my mind). They could of course easily solve this problem with different choices leading to different endings.

I agree with you on that. Bioware may also have shot themselves in the foot with now a total of nine romance subplots.

I don't think they are overrated at all - but to each their own, I guess.

I do agree with you that in some cases it just might not fit - but in those cases they were mostly tacked on only for the sake of there being a happy ending. We will see what will be the case with ME3.

GAH. Nine. Crap

Okay, let's see.... Kaidan, Ashley, Liara, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jack, Jacob, who is the ninth?

This isn't even counting all the unofficial romances--- Samara/Morinth, Kelly,

Shiala makes a pass at Shepard...

And then you have all the frothing Shoker fans out there. I do feel for them.

sorry for double posting.

My honest opinion is that there will never be a DLC for the VS because they want him/her in ME3 and they're saving it... Or at least they were. Its been years now, and with more years to go until completing. Between that, and hundreds of cast.crew, programmers, who knows what will happen?

Yes, nine is simply too much. I hope this doesn't mean that each and every romance will get the same generic ending.

I agree with your opinion but not with your reason. By that logic, Liara shouldn't have gotten her own DLC since she, too, was "saved" for ME3.

;) I froth with you.
I ship a lot of people in Mass Effect. Kaidan-Shep is my #1 pairing hands down, but I got a lot of others floating around in various fanart/fanfic ideas.

To go back to what I said before about worrying if something is done well, or done lazily. The Garrus romance. I see that as a fanservice that was tacked on just because the fans asked for it.  Calibrations, calibrations. Head bump. Now shuddup fangirls.

It satisfied some fangirls, but I don't think it was well-done at all. Garrus has a few great lines, and his voice actor really shines, but it all just seemed very hasty to me. This is just going off the scenes I've seen on YouTube. Having never played it, I doubt my opinion is fair.

Nope. Liara got her own DLC because she's a hot blue alien who looks like Jillian Murray and can have sex with ANYONE.

This is true. I do like all the options for romance, but I don't think that Bioware will give each a generic ending. They managed the six in Mass Effect 2 pretty well, seven counting the Liara scene in the DLC. And you'd only be taking on two more to that count in Mass Effect 3 if they don't add anyone new. I think they can make it work. (: Or at least, I sincerely hope they can.

8 counting Shiala, if you take her up on her offer in ME3, I suppose. ;)

-snip snip-

I have to say, ME2 made me like the Garrus ship. Kaidan-Shep is still my favorite ship, but Garrus-Shep is a very close second. I do understand what you mean, though, about it being a little more "generic". It definitely feels a lot shorter and a lot more rushed than other romances. But I think that has more to do with the nature of the romance? I don't really know how to articulate it, but... I dunno. The Garrus romance, to me anyway, felt less like a "I'm in love with you now" type of romance. I don't know that they've reached that stage yet, and I'm hoping they will in ME3. Does that make any sense?

xD Haha. That is true! And then theres Parasini, although that only counts for MShep.

lol. I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that. When I saw that scene, I actually did a fist pump. "Yeah, you go, Sassy Cop lady! "

I think the line Shep gives Jacob should've gone to Garrus. "I think we need eachother."
I don't see Shep/Garrus as a great romantic love (yet). Great love, yes. I never romanced Garrus, but he's my Shepard's best friend. Period. Tali is not far behind.

Anyway, I think they come together out of great need for support. I think it could become deep romantic love-- especially if Shep keeps up the relationship in ME3. I do worry about the Shadow Broker hints, though. The files on Garrus suggest that he could become a great leader someday but he'll always be overshadowed by Shepard as long as he's on her squad. That's one reason I'll never romance him. (that, and Garrus might always be comparing himself to Kaidan) ;)

Much as I love Garrus... he's not Kaidan. I'll be happy to tell you what's wonderful and not wonderful about the Garrus romance over in the Garrus thread. :)

Until then... Have a Kaidan:

Thanks Sia.  I actually wrote the first chapter when I was in the throes of depression, and showed it to a few people expecting them to laugh at my emo dribble.  Instead they all told me I had to keep writing, lol.  It took a lot out of me though, my muse may never be the same againPosted Image

Angst is addictive, though. A Paragon of Virtue wasn't supposed to be quite so dark.
