I pretty much managed to get through with Kaidan and Garrus for my main team in all my playthroughs, and my maind Shepard is an adept. Garrus swapped out for Wrex on his crappy armour mission, and the others when I wanted the sqadmate achievements. Kaidan is always in my squad, lol. Once I had the achievements Tali, Liara, Ash, and Wrex pertty much never left the Normandy, lol

Same thing here. Always take Garrus and Kaidan except when I played for the achievements.

I played the male Shepard once, only to try it so I had him romance Ashley and get the achievement for her at the same time . Almost cried when I chose Ashley over Kaidan on Virmire.  I swore to never ever let him die again

Kaidan and Wrex don't quite have the same biotic whirlwind, but if you want some control over the fight, they're very good together.

Kaidan and Ashley simply balance each other out. Kaidan brings the skills, Ashley brings the firepower.

I don't think he is. I checked online just to be sure but only found out Shepard and Anderson are. :happy:

I definitely think the chances of Kaidan (and by extension Ashley) becoming a Special Ops person (not necessarily a N7 but one of the other grades perhaps) is far more likely than either of them being a Spectre.

I agree, both Kaiden and Ashley, would make better Alliance Special Ops. than Spectres. They’re both just too loyal to the Alliance. They’re loyal, intelligent, and tough, prime Special Forces candidates imo.



Now that I think about it, how does N7 work? I mean Shepard wears the N7 insignia whilst serving as the XO of a warship on which the CO is the only other confirmed N7. Maybe it’s like the American Army Rangers, where the N7 designation is carried by individual soldiers whether they serve in an N7 unit or not?



If that’s the case, and Kaiden’s not N7 already, he definitely should be. I feel it would add to the character, he’s growing as a person and a professional soldier, while at the same time following in Shepard’s footsteps.

 I agree, Kaidan should be an N7. He'd be a valuable asset, I think, after all he is a very powerful biotic and I'm sure he is a strong leader. 
As for your question about how the N7 work it's for those who graduated from an elite training program. I found this "article" if you are interested. It's not much but still might be useful for you

If so, I say Kaiden and Ash have already gone over to Special Ops. 

Supervising a military outreach program to a separatist colony, while at the same time investigating missing colonies in a hostile region of space and a black ops group in which your former CO/mentor/lover may or may not be involved sounds much more like the sort of assignment one would give to a spec. ops. soldier than to a groundside or shipboard line officer or NCO.
