Just saw the ME1 Renegade ending for the first time... I must say, it is truly more kickass.

The final image of Shepard is <3

I'm also one of these "useless" fans who really can't do much. I just hope you guys know how awesome you are, and how great it is for people like me to be able to come here and soothe the longing for ME3 for a bit.

Really, thanks! Posted Image

@ Fort I use the ME2 Mod Manager. It adds them all and then some.

I don't remember the camo version of that armor from Akodo's pic, though.

And I wish I could play dress up with Kaidan in ME2.  I hope he gets new, unique armor if he's in any DLC (oh god please let it be different from Ashley's).

You can add Predator X armors in ME2 as well as most of the others (some coalesced.ini mods on masseffectsaves.com have those), but they are low res, shinier than in ME and ugly. I just ripped textures of Predator H from ME and replaced it with textures on N7 heavy (just normal and specular map) with Texmod. You can do the same with Kaidan and replace his textures with most of medium armors from ME.

Yeah, I modded my own coalesced.ini file so that the Hammerhead doesn't explode immediately if someone looks at it the wrong way, but I also have the casual wear and armors from RCW's mods cut and pasted in there too.  I'm at the point where I have two backup files, I don't want to lose anything.  I knew that had to be a texmod, but I wasn't sure which armor it was or where to get it, thanks.

And changing Kaidan's armor texture on Horizon wouldn't really be that special, honestly.  Would it be possible to retexture the Phoenix armor from the opening movie, or is that fixed?  Because that would be worth the effort, considering how often I make new characters and have to suffer through that cutscene...

Kaidan is intrigued.

The comic that Night likes to post is by meonlyred on deviantArt.

And I have just the xbox, and am about as technologically inclined as your average vanguard, so I'm stuck w/the vanilla game. And screenshots from Shenzi. :)

I've modded the coalesced.ini file for old school N7 armor for Kate, and the breather for missions where she has to wear the helmet so I can still take nice screenshots in addition to adding flycam and a binding to bring up the armor locker at any location which I've abused along with gibbed for importing and exporting head morphs to take screen shots for some of our xbox players.

I like the armor Kaidan's wearing on Horizon and don't want to change that. However I wouldn't mind changing the Phoenix armor he's wearing at the beginning of ME2....

Pfft, I don't think *any* fan is useless, in a community!  Back when we were on the old Bioware boards, I rarely bothered coming to the Mass Effect forum, because if you admitted that you liked Kaidan, you were likely to face a barrage of haters calling him a whiny, boring Carth clone.  I only started reading that forum when I heard that Kaidan wasn't going to be a squadmate in ME2...that's when I discovered that there were other real live Kaidan fans out there!  I didn't start posting until we got a support thread over here, but I'm very glad I did.

I think one good thing about Kaidan and Ashley's reduced roles in ME2 was that it made fans of these characters speak up, and we've definitely let people know that we're here and active, despite Horizon and the haters who seem to equate our love of a character as a slight against their own favorites, which couldn't be further from the truth.  I've made some really good friends thanks to the character support thread, and the BSN in general, and I'm hopeful that after ME3 is announced, and we get more info, we'll have even more supporters joining us.

I love fan fiction and fan art, but I really enjoy the conversation and discussion that goes on in the thread too.  I just wish we had more info to chew on, but in the meantime, we're in good company.  Posted Image

What you just said is so true.
I understand we can't love all characters but I think some people should give those characters a chance. I know a lot of people who hate Kaidan only because he is voiced by the same guy who voiced Carth so they think like you said, he's a clone of Carth. As whiny, as paranoid, as whatever....

That's why I joined this group, because of everything everyone is sharing <_< and I'm so glad I did! And I'm sure more info about ME3 will come up soon enough. Until then I'll go find some nice fics to entertain myself ;)

I don't want to detract from the rest of your post Teen, but this statement really stood out to me.  I've noticed this among other fans and it kinda bothers me, mostly because I can't figure exactly out why this attitude exists.  Why is it that being a fan of the VS (and Kaidan in particular, it seems) means that you automatically dislike all of the other characters in the game?  My best guess is that it's some sort of projection or defense mechanism: "Well, I don't like your favorite so I'm going to assume you don't like mine and I'm going to get the jump on this argument by accusing you first!"

Any other thoughts on this?  I didn't spend much time at all on the old boards and I've only been a periodic lurker here until recently, so I can't vouch for any other existing attitudes or conflicts that might play a role in this.

People are very sensitive about what they like.
They also assume a great deal about other people on the internet.

Take me for example. I like well almost every single squad mate in ME1 and 2. Then I post that I like Tali, automatically people assume that I dont like their fave since I did not mention them, or mention a charachter that has a fan base that does not like their fave.

Look at how hostile people are if you dare to dislike something they like, like say TIM or Cerberus. People invest time and effort into their fandom and take it quite personally if they think they are being attacked.

This.

And often times people can take one thing and completely rip it out of context, catapulting the whole thing into a fanbase vs fanbase thing.

The one thing that I can say that being on the BSN has taught me is that there are people out there who are just looking to be offended. They'll take anything that's said in a joking manner and turn it into a personal attack.

Do people dislike Kaidan? Yeah, but that doesn't mean that they hate me. Now if they say something about the fans of Kaidan, then I'll take offense.

Edit: This isn't to say that I'm blameless either. I'm a fallible human, just like everyone else.

Actually the only fan base that gets the most offended is the Cerberus fan base.

Or the occasional femshep fan who gets horribly angry if people dont like Hale more than Meer.

People take things far to personally.

I think every fanbase has its hot button. That doesn't mean people can't be friends.

Anyway, how about dem Kaidans? :D

I was coming at the old bio forums and i was reading till i found it in order to avoid spoilers but i rarely posted here. I was on the DA and off topic forums mostly.
I joined again to show my support to Kaidan.

and yes, ppl assume that if you like someone you automatically dislile all the others, especially if they are LIs.
i liked Garrus  and Thane's romance and if not for Kaidan i'd try it. I loooooove Mordin. Actually, there's only one i dislike but still leaves in my playthroughs.

BTW i dont have a problem to declare my hate for Cerberus and TIM...tho TIM IS hot

Wow, 2,468 pages. I just wanted to come in and say I always hated Kaidan or least found him sort of boring and wanky... UNTIL, only recently, I played a female Shepard. As a guy his random asides about Brain Camp do sound a little whiny and there just isn't much dialogue at all besides that. Kaidan has alot more to say and reveal about himself to a female Shepard and now I find he is one of my favorite characters in the setting.

As I noticed, most of players are male - so it's pretty obvious that fav char will be female. When I say "Mass Effect" in university, for example, ansver will always be "blue chick", and when "Kaidan", first reapond will be "who?" and second "always left him on Virmire - it's not fair to sacrifice a woman"/ And it's always easier to not become close with character who is going to be not chosen to live

I do have a question, though: How is he whiny to a dudeShep? There's only one line of dialogue that's different in regards to BAaT/his headaches and it's something along the lines of "maybe it's just my head. It'll be better when I can think straight"

From my experiences on this forum, it's basically
I don't like this character = this character whines.

Kaidan's partly less appealing to some/most male players because he doesn't open up quite as much as he does to female Shepard. If you're male, you can't even talk to him about what happened on Eden Prime - you can only talk to Ashley. Kind of like Bioware was afraid of teh gay or something.

Haven't noticed anything what may count as "whine". And maybe I made everyone tired with this question for now and this is just lame justification of a fangirl, but why Sky who has got only one dialogue which not include his dead daughter and wife isn't Carth clone, Thane with his vivid memories of beloved, perfect, unforgettable dead wife isn't Carth clone either, but Kaidan whose feelings to girl weren't even mutual suddenly is?

Just my personal experience, but it may have had to do with the attitude of my male Shepard (Earthborn/Ruthless/Renegade/Soldier) in contrast to my femShep (Spacer/Sole Survivor/Paragon/Adept). In that context, I wasn't looking to talk about his feelings or his complicated past. Kaidan is a deep-thinking, kinda sensitive guy but he just seemed like a wuss talking to my dudeShep about how his training was so brutal, etc. It was like "Sir, you are opening up at the wrong time to the wrong person about the wrong things. Shuuuut uuuuuup."

Whereas with my femShep, it just seemed more natural and with that character's more understanding demeanor, I tried to "listen" to him the way she would, and came away with a new appreciation for the character.

That said I almost always save Kaidan on Virmire either way, but that's neither here nor there. And no, it's not because I hate Ashley before anyone asks Posted Image
